Roast St Kilda in no mans land

We won when it mattered when finals were on the line at the end of both last season and the 2020 season. Won crucial games against good teams to make the 8 each time.

This year, while there was virtually no mention of it in the media, we were smashed by injuries in the first half of the year (missing 8 of our best 22 from R1 and a similar number each week until about R8 or 10, and our midfield in particular was decimated).

Yet we were still ultra-competitive most weeks (losing 5 games by 10 points or less), despite playing interstate/Geelong every 2nd week, and not having our first genuine home-ground-advantage game until we played Freo at Marvel in R10!

First 9 weeks without a genuine home ground advantage, while missing 7-8 of our best 22 pretty much that whole time, our midfield decimated, and playing 5 of our first 9 games interstate or in Geelong.

No surprise we started 3-7.

So all-in-all I think we did about as well as could be expected under the circumstances.

11 wins, and 6 losses by 10 points or less (including 1 point to GWS in Canberra, 5 points to Hawthorn in Tassie, 8 points to Geelong in Geelong and 10 points to Port in Adelaide).
Sounds like you are blaming injuries on your season.
In the last 7 years St Kilda has won no less than 10 games and no more than 11 games each season.

Even with a dead cat bounce last year, and 23 games this season, the side has regressed slightly.

I get the optimism from some saints supporters in the way they finished the season. But the reality was it was lights out with 6 weeks to go and players were playing for their future. They did will to finish with a flourish and end up with their stock standard 10-11 wins.

That really must sting and sting hard.

Saints yesterday, in a nothing game for them against Carlton reserves, moved their draft pick from 5 to 7 and gave themselves a harder draw next season.
Even when the Saints win … they lose.
Anyway,
Blues are playing finals and Saints are locked in no man’s land which really must sting and sting hard for you 🤣

Yeah you're really roaring into the finals. Premiership favourite half way through the year, spluttering now and only playing finals thanks to Freos ineptitude. You look to be fairly no mansy yourselves to be honest.

Funny, when you have injuries its "Carlton Reserves" but when we did at the start of the year it didnt matter.

Strong argument to be made that finishing 8th (and a formline with 3 wins in your last 9 weeks against Richmond, North and West Coast) is firmly in no mans land with us.

Because they have a crap history

So do you. And at least ours is not tainted by cheating. Its like your club's soul has been damaged ever since then.

Carlton's history in the time 90% of people on this forum have been watching football is worse than ours. Which really says something.

Be honest do Carlton have a winning record over St Kilda since you started watching football?

I'm 53. Pretty sure Carlton have St Kilda covered and comfortably

Congrats.

But you know I'm right still.

Your last 25 years have been shit and most people here have not been watching footy longer than that.

You've got a leg to stand on. Some of the other nappy wearing muppet's can piss off.

Still will take a lot for Saints to get out of mid table.

Phillipou, Henry, MWM, Owens and Wilson are something to really build on.

At the same time Wilkie, Hill, Wood, Marshall, Steele, and Sinclair are all getting on.

That's the problem.

We have the young talent but our established payers are all in their late 20s now and some like Wood in their 30s.

If those guys were 25,26 we would be in business

We will hit the draft again pretty hard.

How is what other clubs do last year in any way relevant to how we do next year based on our strong 8-4 finish to the season?

Jesus.

Maybe try reading the post I responded to.

Vishnu.
