Ross hasn’t “entered the race?”

Maybe because there isn’t one? 🤔

Has there been any announcement from the St.Kilda board about any race or recruitment process? Doesn't seem to be anyone else approached or contacted by the STKFC apart from Ross Lyon.

Cooney would have to be the worst afl commentator out there…honestly I think he is terrible. Even worse than Andy Mahr
if someone gave Cooney a brain it’d die of lonelinesses

I've never met him but his love of Carlton and the way he constantly craps on about women's footy turns me off.

He's not everyone's cup of tea but he's a good second fiddle type. It's a hard job and not something everyone can do. You actually have to always be mentally engaged and keep talking no matter how tired or bored you are. He carries most of the guys he works with by waffling, it's a skill.

Higgins types Ross loves. Milne and Balantine, little mouthy campaigners that get under the skin were a weapon. The forward line has so many good pieces but we struggle to make much of it. I think tweaking that could make us top 8. The player he'll want is a fast aggressive defensive forward. Maybe Stack?

Long is perfect ... oh wait

Would have liked to see what Ross could have turned him into. Apparently Long wasn't a Ratts fan. If Ross could have focussed his energy he could have been anything. Probably would have had a longer career here than up north. Long had heaps of talent but like the Saints it turned on and off intermittently like faulty wipers. Ross was great at working out how to iron the troughs out for players like him and have them play on edge but in a very controlled way.

Makes one wonder whether being a warm fuzzy type coach can ultimately get you to the top of the mountain.
Think you need a large dose of kent to keep a group of highly paid young fellas in line and on their toes.

If Rob Eddy can forgive Rossy and get on board after Ross “Retired” him, then I’m sure fans can accept him back.
I'd be more pissed at someone turfing a membership after 50 years than after 5 ( unless its obviously financial reasons)
Harden up Jen...U sat thru Blight and Watson ffs

Sharman, pfft that clown looks like Cousin Greg from Succession, Ross will cull the imposter day one. ;)

Yep the old Ross Lyon plan was far superior. Long bomb to Riewoldt. In the case it goes to ground have the freakiest crumbing forward ever available to get it.
We
Did the same with Spida and Bazza too.

I’d love to see how many times the word “process” was used in this thread.

Give it a listen and then come back and discuss who was the ultimate villain here.

Its one side of a story so it doesn't mean much really.

He still had a contract with 12 months left to run on it, they'd been in discussions for some time about an extension - he wasn't happy with so he jumped ship.

Like I said - I understand why he took the security of the Freo offer but please don't make the club out as the "ultimate villain'.

And don't forget his management group (ESP) dropped him because he shafted Harvey and them in the process. He's no snow flake either.

Lyon was contracted with the Saints for 2012 and told the club earlier in the week he would see out his current contract and possibly sign an extension.

But Lyon was reportedly unhappy with the new deal offered to him by St Kilda, and is almost certain to replace Harvey at Fremantle.

Although the Dockers haven't confirmed the move, they will hold a media conference on Friday when it will be formally announced.

St Kilda released a statement on Thursday night, claiming Lyon turned down their offer of an unconditional four-year deal to coach the Saints until the end of 2015.

"The St Kilda Football Club is disappointed that Ross Lyon will not be continuing as senior coach," St Kilda said in the statement.

"Until this evening, the club was engaged in constructive discussions with Lyon's management about his long-term future at the Saints.

"St Kilda Football Club assistant coach Robert Harvey will assume responsibility on an interim basis."

In added drama, Lyon was dropped by his management after failing to advise them of his negotiations with Fremantle.

"Today Ross Lyon informed Elite Sports Properties of his decision to resign from the St Kilda Football Club and of his recent discussions with another AFL football club," a statement from Elite read.

"Given that ESP has not been privy to any of these discussions, a decision has been made to cease our management relationship with Ross."
