Not to mention the Rowell bump on Juzzy which was hip direct to head. Juzzy was over the ball and had hands on it. The tackle was on.
I’d have to see the replay. The only thing I have read in regards to that was someone saying Rowell got hands to the ball first and that Juzzy deserved to be injured having gone head first like that.

First time I've seen Campbell play and thought he looked a good (as in making a real impact, rather than just filling in the team) AFL player. Very encouraging.
Stephens I expect to be very good after his season last year.
If those two have reasonably consistent seasons at that kind of level we are going to be very hard to beat indeed.

Warner seems to have mastered the NFL running back tactic of "dead legging" (allowing the impacted limb to absorb impact without resistance) when someone tries to tackle him low, uses his agility to stay on his feet, and motors off while his would be tackler is on the floor. His upper body strength, and step makes him difficult to tackler higher. He's a real problem for opponents.

Rampe should be the next Premier of NSW.

Made it to half time and my four year old wouldn’t relent in his desire to go home.

I was sweating bullets, so uncomfortable last night.

Observation for first half is how much I miss not seeing many games live. Rampe behind the ball was marshalling the back line. He is a leader that you would follow. So professional and controls that backline.

The red V jumper - a personal joy for me.

The Swans pressure set up the game. GC then made mistakes later based on perceived pressure and a slippery pill

Taking nothing away as I thought we played hard footy but what’s the go with GC
Only r1 but they looked average again
They were disappointing for sure. In their defence, they were missing the majority of their best backline, I believe it was Touk's first real game time for the year, and their spearhead forward was playing his first game in 1.5 years.

But they really, really need to pretty much break even in the first 10 rounds, so they're going to need to come good quickly.

Nothing will change until there are changes to the length of stay for young talent. As many have said before GC and GWS are effectively pseudo mature age academies for clubs in traditional states.

Funnily enough when the rules in the AFLW start seeing players move north for bench to nothing it’s an outrage and the lack of loyalty should be fixed.

The AFL has a problem on the gold coast imo

That club is going nowhere
Yep. While we all like to laugh at GWS, they are miles ahead of the GC historically on field and fan wise, in my opinion anyway.

I realise I'm mentioning nearly the whole damn team here but another name I forgot to mention... Ollie Florent. Was he the toughest bloke out there last night? I don't think I saw anyone take the hits and throw his body around as much as Florent did. He had a pivotal crunch tackle on some Gold Coast player whose name I can't recall. He has really bulked up and turned himself into a human meatball that can absorb all kinds of physical contact now. Such a far-cry from the skinny twig who debuted for us!

We laugh at GWS at times but at least they could say they almost reached the top, they just never recovered from the disappointing GF showing. Also made finals in previous years and was also a real threat to us in 2016 before Bravedogs killed off that chance.

Suns need to desperately get off the ground. Theres just something strange about Gold Coast teams in general never getting there.

Did Gold Coast underperform last night, or are they just not very good?

I look at the team they fielded last night and the only names that strike fear into me are Witts, Miller (first game back from injury), Anderson, King (first game back from injury), Collins and Ballard. The rest are average IMO.

You won't win many games with only half a dozen good players.

Isn't the Gold Coast a graveyard for sporting clubs anyway?

Should have promoted Southport imo
Went to the league game prior. I mean it is still a suburban sport. Half time raffles, fairy floss and all the greatest hits from the late 90’s. Many attendees are people who have moved up and have their own team prior to arriving. Doesn’t lend to developing a passionate fan base when they are effectively everyone’s second team.

But hopefully those people who move, love footy, have kids and those kids support the new side

It is very much a long term investment but they need on field success as well

The suns just don't look like they are ever going anywhere near finals , Dew has had moments , they have some good talent, but until they start going somewhere on field the off field has little chance.

At least GWS has won some games and been a decent contender at times

I am unsure why you included Collins and not Rowell. I think Collins is a pretty average Full Back

For the stupid hit on Collins. not only that he almost took Long's head off. Lucky he missed or he would be spending holiday time out.

Hit? it's footy , the media can freeze frame it if they want but these are split second moments in play , nothing in it

I hate to say it again but I do think Campbell struggles with endurance.

Had 7 disposals in the first quarter which is great but he ended with 16. Now 16 is pretty good for him, but it would be so much better if he could start averaging 20 disposals a game.
When a side is getting hurt by a player early in a game the opponents tend to try to avoid them. With Campbell being a flanker they can avoid kicking the ball in his vicinity. He really was killing them with his beautiful delivery

Let's face it, the whole Gold Coast is one of the weirder parts of Australia.

You've only got to look at the way they built huge tower blocks right on the beach.

On the east coast.

So the whole beach is cast in shadow by mid afternoon.

Then you realise that people on the Gold Coast really don't think too clearly sometimes.

One of the smartest games I’ve seen us play in those sort of conditions. Even effort across the ground. Rampe and Stephens stood out for me at the ground.

Downsides though. Footy record now 6 bucks. Cider 11 and hot chips 7. Dinner nearly cost me more than the flight up.
I am glad I am not living in Aus now. i could not afford to buy a bag of chips once a week there. When I last came back a leg of lamb was $59. You basically have to fill the credit card with one night out at dinner and a few beers. I am not going to talk about rent or accommodation. That is huge for a shitty cider and some crappy chips that probably are not even real potato.
