If it’s a World Cup play it in summer

ICC dictate when it’s played and you aren’t going up against the FIFA World Cup. Blame the ICC for the time. Rather keep our test summer thanks too.

0-2mm forecast in Brisbane for Monday on the Bom, so we’ll be right for our match although the England NZ game under serious threat of washing out on Tuesday.

Looks like Ireland might have knocked England out of the World Cup with the way things are heading

Whomever scheduled so many matches in Melbourne in October is a goose, knowing that Australia is into a third straight year of La Nina, meaning another wet spring and summer.

At the very least all the Melbourne games should have been played at the stadium with a roof.

He certainly wasn't a Melbourne cricketer.

I’ve had a think about this over the last few days after suggesting they should have scheduled the other Melbourne games for the dome.

The point was made that for sides like Ireland and Afghanistan playing at the MCG is a once in a lifetime opportunity etc etc.

Yeah I get that and I appreciate it.

They’re here to compete, though, not to sight see.

Australia and England yes of course you want the biggest possible crowd. Fair play.

And I get that double headers give spectators greater value as well: but the idea that one weather incident ruins TWO games in a tournament where only 4 of 12 teams progress: that’s not good enough.

I think people forget the big money for these events is selling off tv rights and sponsorship before it starts, they dont really care how high quality the event is just as long as money rolls in, rained out games won't really have an impact on bidding for tv rights for future world cups so it wont impact what drives the sport and what people at top care most about.

* me that was a waste of time. All you MCG drainage optimists really sucked me in.

Only highlights are the full refund on the tickets and seeing Shane Watson walking past on the boundary.

And top work MCC. Couldn't hear the person next to me over all the noise and Brodie Young bullshit, but had to hear about the abandonment on Cricinfo.
Yeah I thought it was pretty poor at the ground, it took about 10 minutes from the time the game was abandoned to making the actual announcement at the ground. I guess they thought it was better to try to extend the food and drinks sales, but not very fair to those fans hanging around waiting for an outcome.

You didn’t get a selfie with the England captain?

I only knew about it officially when it came up on the TVs showing the fox coverage.

Don’t get why they don’t use docklands stadium with the roof closed to catch up cricket games lost due to rain. Why build an indoor stadium if you don’t use it for sports that cannot be played in the rain

Well they had to refund a whole lot of tickets. I’m sure they’d have rather just refunded the 25% who couldn’t fit in marvel.

Yet how much would it cost to hire Marvel Stadium for 6 weeks plus set it up for a cricket venue plus staff it for 6 weeks just in case it gets used? Plus they'd probably be refunding more than 25% of tickets as more than that wouldn't bother heading there.

I knew it when the captains and umpires shook hands and most of the crowd then started leaving at that point. Then the covers came off and some of the crowd started cheering, that was funny.

I saw that but nothing came through for a good 10 minutes after that

Yes but overall even just the tournament itself would be better off with less rain affected results. Not a team gettingn****ed by weather
