The team is:

B: Martin Mattner, Ben Rutten, Nathan Bassett
HB: Andrew McLeod, Scott Stevens, Jason Torney
C: Michael Doughty, Robert Shirley, Nathan van Berlo
HF: Simon Goodwin, Nathan Bock, Chris Knights
F: Scott Welsh, Ian Perrie, Mark Ricciuto
R: Ben Hudson, Scott Thompson, Tyson Edwards
Inter: Jonathon Griffin, Graham Johncock, Brent Reilly, Jason Porplyzia
Emerg: Kris Massie, Ken McGregor, Luke Jericho

‘Roo’ is back, Luke Jericho is the unlucky Crow to make way, and Jonathon Griffin is fit.

That was the wash-up from Adelaide’s tough selection meeting for Saturday’s game with Melbourne at the MCG.

Mark Ricciuto will lead the side for the first time since round 20 of the 2006 season, after successfully completing two weeks of full training. He has been batttling a sore back since February.

But the skipper’s return to the forward line squeezed out Jericho, who kicked three goals against Carlton.

The big surprise was the availability of ruckman Jonathon Griffin, who was expected to miss one of two games after straining an ankle early in last Saturday’s game at Telstra Dome. Griffin had a light run on Wednesday and another training session yesterday morning and will join the rest of the squad for Friday morning’s session.

damn, got beaten

Re: Jericho out, Roo in

he was lucky to get a spot in the first place, if he feels he deserves to be there he will go back and get picked again.

It is harsh on him but I know who I would prefer to come in.

Re: Jericho out, Roo in

Jesus christ.

Very harsh on Jezza.

Up there with 2005 when Chocolate dropped Chaplin after a sensational game on Nathan Thompson to readmit... Bishop.

In this case Ricciuto is a freak and worth 800000 Bishops, but I'd drop one or two others before Jez.

Re: Jericho out, Roo in

I was worried about balance with having Roo, Jericho, Perrie, Bock and Welsh all playing as primarily leading forwards and i do realise that Roo and Jericho do pretty much the same thing but this seems incredibly harsh!:(

I am now going down to the parade on Friday night to watch LJ tear the Bays a new one out of sheer frustration!

Great news that Griff will be able to play though. He has become incredibly valuable to our structure with his ability to play in the ruck and upforward. Best aboriginal Ruckman in the comp

Re: Jericho out, Roo in

Personally thought Stevens would make way...

Other than Stevo (we seem to have 800 bigs in the side at present), Dogga might have been in the gun prior to his last 3 games where he's been superb - maybe Porplyzia structure wise.

Jez played the Burtonesque wingman/forward role against Carlton - could've easily played there again I'd have thought.

Re: Jericho out, Roo in

It's been wet over here all week, with forecast of more rain for tomorrow and Saturday. Maybe Jericho isn't considered as strong a wet weather player as some of the other candidates for omission?

Harsh call on Jericho though IMHO.

The other interesting one is Griffin passed fit and Maric not even an emergency. They've got to be pretty confident in Griff's ankle.

Re: Jericho out, Roo in

 So who then deserved to be dropped?

I would have left out Stevens and popped Bock back to CHB, or even dropped Bock. I have a nasty fear we will be top heavy up forward for a wet game. Jericho can at least run and carry the ball forward (as pointed out elsewhere, playing a Burton-esque role).

Personally I would have thought that Torney would have been the option considering what Craig was talking about structure wise on Monday. That Roo is a 'bench' player option and I could only see two bench players that fit which were Jericho and Torney. I would have thought that Jericho might stay due to his performance on the weekend although there were a couple of areas that he could still improve apon. But obviously that club sees it as a straight swap for a forward / midfield bench option with Roo unlike Torney who is the backlines / midfield option.
