IMHO Pedlar will easily go past & replace Berry .....but efforts that Berry put in are always appreciated for a while

Best comparison, I can think of is Worpel ....was until this year, a mainstay of the HAWKS midfield ....77 games, and now can't get a game & is receiving the ire of supporters

What was appreciated about him, no longer is enough, as his deficiencies are highlighted more, over time
I see Pedlar more than a workhorse though. Assuming he develops and comes on.

Matt Crouch:

18 CBA 1 clearance
1 clearance for the game
2 tackles
12 pressure acts
154 metres gained
7 contested possessions, 20 uncontested

Now for a midfielder such as Crouch, does this game make sense? If he’s not winning clearances and contested possessions whats the point of him? What benefit do his uncontested possessions have?

Let alone his lack of defensive pressure

all they see is 27 possessions, gun.

We used a game vs. 18th to pump midfield time into Crouch at the expense of Berry and Hately. That's just pathetic. Even Soligo should be getting a couple of CBAs per game. The guy is clearly fit enough.

Not to mention playing Dawson as a KPD for the entire match. Why couldn't we get him some wing or midfield time for 5 minutes a quarter even? The side desperately needs skill going into F50. We finally recruit this and we play him deep defence vs. the worst side in the League? I'm sure Hinge/Doedee could have covered his defensive duties for part of a quarter here and there yesterday.

Good
FOG showed some power which we haven't seen before

Sig looks a real player
Paddy deserves another opportunity after a solid debut

Hamil is now best 22

Bad
Crouch doesn't improve our midfield

Milera still looks like he wants to pick and choose how he gets involved

RT had no impact but we need to keep playing at this level

Rowe and Murphy, I'm hesitant to play either player, at least one of the two need to be dropped....

That’s a hell of a lot of projection on Pedlars behalf. You could make the case he’s been just as big a draft bust as McAsey. Posters keep claiming “Wait until he’s fit”, well this is his 3rd season on an AFL list, when exactly is this fitness base supposed to come? When was the last time a true top line, A grade Mid played almost exclusively reserves football for thier first 3 seasons?

He's got time on his side

Club rates him very highly, but that's almost to his detriment. Played well before he was reason, stuck between SANFL and unused sub

Needs to go back to the sanfl & see if he can reinvent himself.

Straight swap with Cook & our midfield is better balanced with Hately back in the guts.

We can't be carrying average older players at the expense of getting games into highly talented younger players who we need to get to 50+ games asap.

Its frustrating to see

This is where short term thinking overrides long term thinking

need the wineed the wineedthe wineedthewin

As an example we play North Melbourne in 3 weeks time . What odds we dont change a thing and play the Big Boy Crew and get a good win against rubbish opposition

Yeah I was thinking that but Hately played the wing like an inside mid, 6 kicks and 19 handballs, 273 metres gained. Our coaches are too silly to see that though and will look at the possession count.

Soligo is an inside mid too, not a wing. He’s got the strength already, good speed, clean hands and makes good decisions. He’s one of the better juniors we’ve had come through for a long time and needs midfield minutes.
Soligo has shown he has the tools to be hard working wingman. He covered plenty of territory yesterday, including getting back in defence when needed.

Agree he will transition to an inside midfielder, but to say he can't play on a wing is BS.

Hately on the other hand despite being ok yesterday on a wing has shown he is far more suited to an inside role. Should never have been bumped by Crouch.

It's a good point, all I'll say his he played almost none of his u18 year due to injury so, like Cook, was coming from a long way back physically.

Yes I quite agree. In fact they both also look similar in appearance! Soligo seems to have the higher ceiling compared with Ned. His endurance is also pretty impressive for a first year lad.

I also agree that Cook has more potential than Ned. Cook has the X Factor where Ned seems to perform mainly from effort. I do see Cook and Soligo being a part of our future plans.

With Ned, I think he does belong at AFL level, but needs to have more improved goal kicking sense. I do think he will improve with more games and confidence.
How many more games, the goal posts aren't going to get any bigger.

Soligo has shown more in four games than McHenry has in 35 games
This is the type of player McHenry should be with his 'endurance' but he cant get the ball, cant crumb a ball in the forward line and cant kick a goal.
And for all his so called pressure, he gives way too many frees away.
Bring Cook in for him up forward. Lets start playing guys with some class instead
Could not just give this post just a tick assented to strongly agree as at the game where conditions were average players and spectators might add , Soligo was competitive classy and kicked goals well beyond 30 metres where Rowe, McHenry and Murphy like yesterday missing inside 30.
Personally like to see Cook and Gollant given games up forward giving us targets going forward as well coming up to provide a way out of defence.

Nicks doesn't like this post.

2nd season and he had a very restricted 1st pre-season.

Fitness isn't going to fix a lack of skill. The problem is that there wasn't much available at his pick but we should have taken Bruhn.

I originally said he couldn’t play wing, which he can but he’s not to the level he could be an inside mid, that’s his position

There was one pivotal moment that decided the game yesterday.

It was when Kennedy hit the post in the last quarter and we took the ball from the kick in and Tex ends up kicking a goal from it

Had Kennedy's kick go through the Eagles would have only been down by 2 goals with the run of play. The kick misses and turns into a Walker goal and the margin goes from potentially being 14 point to suddenly being 28 points and it was obvious being at the game when that happened that the Eagles players dropped their heads.

I honestly think the result would have been different if Kennedy kicked that goal
