Geez I wonder why that expectation exists.

It couldn't be because hawthorn supporter blow their collective loads every time little Cyril touches the ball, could it?

No, of course as hawthorn fans are the most sensible down to earth fans of all of big footy. Ludicrous suggestion, how silly of me.

There has to be another reason, for the time being the mystery remains.
I don't understand why you seem to be so hurt by a teams supporters wanting a young player to fulfil his potential.

It's not like this is a practice exclusive to Hawthorn supporters, even the neutral supporters in the thread(not including some seemingly agitated Cats fans) are suggesting that if he lifted his possession rate just slightly the team would benefit highly.

Why do Hawk supporters keep acknowledging Geelong bitterness?

Geelong supporters on Bigfooty are so jealous of Rioli, and so twisted over the destruction he gave them in the 2008 Grand Final, that they have become insane and pathetic.

I liken them to zombies out of movies screaming, 'Braaaaaaaaaaaaains'

Instead they say 'Oveeeeeeeeeeeeeeer-rated'.

Get lost losers, no one cares what you think.

Cyril is an average small forward. The things he does well, he does very well. Rarely produces games like last night, and is amazing to watch when he does. Lets see if he can back it up next week or go back into his shell like he usually does.

If he does back it up next week, everyone will say its only Melbourne. There are some people you can never please.

He hasn't been great this year, yet he has still kicked 2 or more goals in 5 of the 6 games this year. For a small forward that is pretty consistent.

Bennell will be very good. Yesterday though was the first time he has got over 24 disposals. If he keeps playing like he did yesterday he will be a star

Geez this thread has gone to shit.
Some people sound like absolute dills.
No amount of manufactured reason or invented evidence could Further enhance or illustrate the bitter delusional rants.
It's piss funny actually. The average Geelong supporter must spew at the
Rap they get because of the stupidity.

Rioli sure was left opened in his unbelievable freakish one in a life time 6 goal performance..Tell me when Rioli gets a heavy tag?
Rioli isn't tagged. You got that right. Like all forwards he has a direct opponent. One out against his direct opponent he always wins. On the few times he moves into the middle he is not tagged. Opposition coaches understand what you don't. Rioli is untaggable to try and negate him would be a waste of a man.

It may only be Melbourne but that is pretty irrelevant...If he can continue this form and tear Melbourne to bits, it will help his confidence immeasurably, and it never really hurts to have easy, confidence building games. Up until last night he was consistent enough without being a real standout which is what most seem to expect of him.

He is on the verge of making the jump from good to great. Bookmark it.

If Rioli is overrated and Rioli last season was the no.1 assist player, than can someone answer what is better than no.1?

Varcoe and stokes - oh whoops that was so yesterday

Agree. This thread is disgraceful, it should definitely be in the Bay.

Honestly all it has become is trolling

People have such strange views on football. Why is it considered better to be a midfielder than a half forward ? Good midfielders are a dime a dozen. Give me a mercurial game-breaking forward any day of the week. You can count these guys on one hand. This is especially so in the modern game with it's ultra-defensive structures.

Time and time again, Rioli has shown that he cannot be defended for the entire game. If Rioli was able to get over his hamstring issues and develop as a midfielder, it would be a nice added string to his bow, but even if he never does, he is still a player who makes things happen, wins contests for the ball and brings his teammates into the game. He is one of those rare breed of footballers who can make things happen without any support from their teammates. These are the true guns. It doesn't matter whether they play back, forwards or in the middle.

This is a shocking thread. Why start a thread in praise of a young footballer when really the main premise was to bag out a freakish footballer who doesn't fit the normal stereotype?

Does the Richmond fan who started this thread like it when people bag Brett Deledio for not dominating in the middle? Maybe Deledio's best position is the back flank. Maybe that's where he properly maximise his god-given abilities. Does it make him any less of a footballer? Does it make Nathan Foley a better footballer purely because he plays as a midfielder? Pfft.

Big Footy at it's worst. Just a bunch of ignorant, cretinous Dream Team nerds trying to inflame the Hawthorn fans and bag out one of the better players in the game. Anyone who thinks Rioli is overrated has their head up their arse. They need to log out of their computer and actually get along to a game.

If he keeps playing like this (fair question mark over that at this early stage) he'll be the best player in the AFL within 2 years.

Unbelieveable that he is putting these sorts of games together as a 19 year old but he hasn't yet dealt with a lot of opposition attention or a tag as far as I know.

That's the great shame about this thread. We all should be applauding him and speculating as to how good he could be instead of it being an open slather on another young gun.

It's BigFooty and unfortunately there is nothing the average Big Footy grunt likes more than a carcass to pick over.

Yeah and an invented carcass at that.
That's the fastest moving carcass I've ever seen Saturday night!

Cyril is a good avergae forward pocket player.

pretty flashy, but nowhere near as consistent as the leagues best.

Rioli is a fantastic forward with a similar output to Eddie Betts (only more 'delicious')
He is not a midfielder, but there is nothing wrong with this.

He gets a bit of grief because hawthorn supporters have banged on about him being the next Ablett.

Just enjoy watching him play. He'll probably never reach the heights of Stephen Milne, but he can still be a very useful forward.
