Yea, incredible that they didn’t ask him what his faith was before they hired him 🤣🤣🤣
If you are looking for sympathy, you won’t get it. The conflict of interest was obvious. The process to select himself was horrifically bad governance. And the result was inevitable.

Nonsense, he was ousted for his beliefs. Plain and simple.

His beliefs are not compatible with the values of the organisation. Or most organizations to be honest.

I'm trying to find the quote (Saw it on an instagram post) but Barham made the comment that they could not ask about religious beliefs in the interview, but when they came to light they had to act.

That was a bit of a wow statement in itself

100% he's opening himself up to a discrimination case now.

Btw I'm happy he got the ass/quit, just find it how hilariously bad the club is run and continues to be run.

That may be right - that you can’t specifically ask someone about their religious beliefs.
But you can certainly ask them to detail all official positions they hold, such as directorships or similar of any organisations.
This guy was the chairman of a religious organisation. And that fact would, or should, have been disclosed in the normal interview process.

For example, if the guy was a director and chairman of Klu Klux Klan Victoria Pty Ltd, you’d want to know that, wouldn’t you?

Or, in interview, simply ask: "These are our values... please give examples of how these values resonate with you & when/how you've demonstrated these values in previous employment & in your current role?

Insanely bad to acknowledge it's illegal (in that quote) then do it anyway when they found out another way.

Barham continues to act like an absolute moron
  • external review that was rigged
  • throwing Rutten out the door to get Clarko
  • approaching Clarko late
  • inviting Hird to the coaching interview process (hahaa)
  • failing to keep Sheedy's mouth shut after the coaching appointment was made
  • appointed the guy who ran the review as CEO
  • sacked him a day later
  • admitted discrimination via the media

This is all in roughly a month's work

Better still.

But would be an interesting answer -

“I understand there may be gay women in our female footy team. So while I fundamentally believe that these people are an aberration under God and that homosexuality is a sin, I am sort of neutrally prepared to embrace them (figuratively speaking of course) as Essendon footballers“.

Sympathy? For what? I have no vested interest in the outcome and I’m an Atheist.

Back on topic, he wasn’t sacked because of any conflict of interest, they clearly stated why he was sacked, it’s not a secret, nice pivot though.

Ne was sacked because of his bigoted beliefs and views by a bigoted organisation. The bigger bigot won, whilst they both claim not to be bigots.

Yep, in terms of comms, our own Ned Ryerson has him well and truly covered!

Although he'd be far too sensible to take on the * presidentship I'd wager

Lets see what Essendon said about this...
We are deeply committed to our values and support wholeheartedly the work of the AFL in continuing to stamp out any discrimination based on race, sex, religion, gender, sexual identity or orientation, or physical or mental disability.

I want to stress that neither the board nor Andrew was aware of the comments from the 2013 sermon until we read about them this morning. I also want to stress that this is not about vilifying anyone for their personal religious beliefs, but about a clear conflict of interest with an organisation whose views do not align at all with our values as a safe, inclusive, diverse and welcoming club for our staff, our players, our members, our fans, our partners and the wider community.

That's right, it was a clear conflict of interest.

Oh dear, this is not going to end well for the Bigots. Fancy quoting a sermon from 10 years ago from the church you’re a member of and attend as the reason you got sacked whilst publicly admitting that the sacked employee had no knowledge of the sermon delivered 10 years ago.

Surely this is a Gotcha call or a you’ve been punkd episode. Tell me when Ashton Kutcher jumps out from behind the couch and says you’ve been punkd.

Apparently getting sued for Religious Discrimination. Could bankrupt em. Barham gone.

As an atheist who hates the hypocrisy that religious organisations can sack people based on values issues without repercussion but as someone who also hates * this is a tough one.

They are a shambles of a club that is for sure.

Everyone needs to bow down to the incredible volume of this ass-hatary.

He's breathing rarified air by $#@%ing all of that up in anywhere near one month.

I'd wager no-one on this board has worked with someone capable of performing that badly in any vocation.
