Surprised no one has mentioned Dogga for his role on Betts. Betts had no impact on the game and was kept scoreless, Dogga smashed him in one on ones also.:thumbsu:

Being at the game it appeared as though there was a three way rotation in defense ! Dogga, Smith and Jaensch all spent time on Betts, but yes Dogga the majority.

'I saw Truck at the supermarket with his kids, I think they were giving him more of a contest than he's had today' or something similar. Damn Bruce.
i love it when Bruce the crows supporter comes out!! :)

Hey Smoothie..I love that picture of your sister!

But seriously, though I can appreciate well shaped bodies I am a keen observer of body language. And I would never have thought Tippo could challenge DMac for seriousness, but even when things went right for him yesterday he rarely smiled. He looks like a guy who is not happy in his work. Is it a pressure thing with his kicking that is overloading him or something else? Maybe he feels like he is not contributing with his goal conversion and/or maybe it is a spin off with Tex assuming the No1 forward mantle. I don't think so. I reckon Tippo is an intelligent guy who has tons of footy skills as well as personal presentation talents. He could certainly have a life after playing as a commentator I'd say. But we are winning and his contribution is readily appreciated by almost everybody. So why isn't he smiling?....it's got me a little worried.

Kurt is an incredibly competitive beast.

What I do love about him is that he is having issues with his kicking, but he keeps presenting and presenting and presenting regardless of if he misses or not. Compare that to Lindsay Thomas who has the yips just as badly and yet he looks to pass off as much as possible. He rarely takes it. Kurt takes the opportunity and wears it if he misses and then presents again.

The Great
  • Breaking the 15-game losing streak in such emphatic style.
  • Ability of the Crows to win the contested ball & clearances time & time again.
  • The Dangermouse/Murphy clash - both players going in hard for the footy with little thought to their own safety, this is what makes AFL such a great spectacle.
  • Dangermouse & Thompson finally starting to get the plaudits they deserve.
The Good
  • Winning comprehensively, without Walker and without a meaningful scoreboard contribution from Tippett.
  • 10 goal scorers, to go with last week's 13, indicates we have firepower across the board.
  • Keeping Carlton goalless in the 2nd quarter and kicking 15 goals to 3 after quarter time.
The Bad
  • The outcome of the Dangermouse/Murphy clash - both players hurt, Murphy with a fairly serious injury. Nobody wants to see players injured like that.
The Bad, The amount of times you have used Dangermouse.

Its terrible. Stop it.

One of the best games to see live

We know there were no passengers ...we know it heralded Dangerfield as an elite player who on his day is better than Judd

The game also said to me that the days of athletes over footballers are over

The gamestyle we're playing has players under pressure just forcing the ball forward .....this requires players up the ground to read the ball off the boot

This requires footballers

Adelaide also lead the competition with interchanges ....160+ IIRC
High energy game ...high interchange levels

Carlton is playing the gamestyle of the last 3-4 years of hard running and setting up or breaking down zones

The Game now is going to old style football .....one on one physical stuff
Have Carlton & Melbourne recruited the type of players for the "new" style

Jenkins a revelation ......reminds me of a young David Schwarz ...huge potential

Great coaching of Talia ...he's obviously a long way off being even very good
So he's being asked to not do things outside his current capabilities ...just stick to and beat your man

Smith very disappointing today .....has shut some good players down but lots of mistakes today .....could make way for Shaw

Dangerfield was great yesterday and has been this season. But his field kicking still lets him down on occasions. Tidy up that defect and he will be as good as or better than Judd or Ablett jnr IMO.

Yeah he and Sloane made some awful kicking decisions that led to some damaging turnovers in the first half. Both kicked over Tippett's head a couple of times, making him have to chase, and leading to a coast to coast. It was as though they were kicking to where Walker usually would be? Anyway I think they just need to calm down and take their time, as they're both quick enough to evade the pressure that was being applied by the slow Carlton mids.

Danger was flawless otherwise, and Sloane is the Pippen to his Jordan IMO :D

Spot on WW. I think his time as a development coach are serving some of our young guys well.

I actually think Sando has done this with the team period.

There were concerns early we were bombing long to contests too much... not spreading and moving the ball across the ground or switching play.

Now we are switching play when required, hitting up targets on lead, spreading and breaking beautifully.

I get the impression Sando gave them some simple targets in the early games - get it forward at all costs. And then as the team has come together added more complexity to the ball movement and tactics.

Could be wrong, maybe its just grown with confidence.

You're making life hard for me, WW. I actually agree with everything you've said, with the exception of Smith, even though he has made a couple of errors in recent times.

He's been cutting good players out of the game, which is why Sando singled him out as someone that he's been very happy with his performances.

What's happened to the old WW who I used to enjoy arguing with all the time? :D

On a strange note

does anyone ever remember a game where the commentators were so excited about Adelaide Crows players ? (in the modern era)

outside Modra and D Jarman I can't really recall so many highlights in 1 particular game or the commentators actually getting excited and talking about them enough to take note.

I think that during the Craig years we were always typecast as "well drilled crowbots" Make no mistake, there were periods during Craig's tenure when we played scintillating footy so I'm not having a pot shot at him - there was a period in 06 when we were just smashing everyone by 10 goals and that 09 game at Etihad against Carlton and the first quarter of the 09 semifinal against the Pies. But it was always on the back of a well drilled game plan that, when played to perfection, looked sensational. It was also drilled on solid defensive action first and foremost.

Sando has allowed the players to play a more attacking gamestyle and allowed them to play with a bit more flair which is exciting to watch. Even if you read the main board, in general people are enjoying watching the style of footy we're playing at the moment. It's good times to be a Crows upporter, that's for sure. Even if the young group peters out over the season a la Essendon last year, you can finally see that we have a young exciting group, that is playing exciting football and look to be on the right track to being a genuine contener over the next few years...Happy days:D

I think its a little inaccurate to say Craigy played with a defensive mindset first and foremost and Sando doesn't.

Sando has also stressed defensive action first and foremost.

Where he has loosened the leash is when we have ball in hand - AFTER our defensive action has won us the ball.

So I actually think its more accurate to say under both coaches we are strong defensively. With ball in hand though: under craigy we were often quite conservative and looked to create and run into space with alot of time spent setting up an attack; under sando we are playing direct, contested footy all the time.

Yes, there were plenty when we were flying high in 05 and 06. Not much since then though so its nice to hear it again.

True - I guess what I meant was that he has added a more attacking mindset to the established defensive action and allowed the players to play with more flair when they have their hands on the ball with a mindset of moving the ball forward quickly and directly.

The last 3 weeks, we've played the best footy I've seen us play since 05/06; and we're doing it with Danger, Sloane, Thommo, Kurt, Tex, Petrenko etc... Not with Roo/Macca/Goody/Tys in their prime.

The improvement in our young kids this year has been absolute amazing.

We have half a dozen of the most promising, most talented youngsters in the competition - and Crouch can't even play for us yet.

We've beaten the best team in the comp (Sydney), then made two Premiership favourites look like bottom 4 teams.

And there is a hell of a lot of improvement still to come...

And we're playing aggressive, attacking, irrepressible footy; you only have to read the main board, the amount of opposition supporters saying how much they love watching the Crows play this year.

It is very exciting :D

BigFella - I think it's fair to say that Craig valued attack, but in a 50/50 contest, he'd want us to play defensive. Sando, in a 50/50 contest, wants us to attack and back ourselves in.

The Hawks did it against us at the MCG - anytime there was a 50/50 footy, they'd back their guy in to win it, and they were streaming forward in numbers ready to attack when he did.

KE - again I would use the word 'conservatively' not 'defensively'. Sando still wants us to play defense first... but when its our turn to attack we attack hard, fast and back our players ahead of the ball in (as opposed to being conservative and looking to create openings and/or maintain possession).
