If you really want to think about this properly then the interpretation of Simpson's comments as racist may in fact be racist in and of themselves. Are we suggesting that only minority groups can have split families or only white people can attend private school?
The thread on the North board has taken a turn. It appears denial is not just a river in Egypt.

That argument falls flat on its face when the victims are anonymous and all identifying details removed from the publicly available reports.

Last time I checked they wanted the investigation to play out but accepted mostly that there is no way Clarkson survives if the alleged events are even remotely true.
Have they now taken to shooting the messenger? Gillon has effectively confirmed the ABC report is spot on.
Clarkson is now going to be proved innocent and will lead them to glory. Some naming of names going on. A lot of optimism given the facts on hand.
They were interviewed as part of the report on the condition of anonymity. That was part of the conditions of the report. To turn round and expose them now because it's blown up would breach that trust and be completely unethical.

Not a fan of the “open to review” just state we are going to review
hey kids this is well past footy clubs reviewing themselves. Thus why would the club even attempt it. The AFL will struggle. It will eventually be sorted out on court. The cost will be big and it will be an onging cost - financial and non financial.
Even if you ignore how batshit crazy that is, and it is batshit crazy, I would love to know the last case the abc lost

Freo posted the same thing yesterday saying they are also open to review albeit not in an official club statement.

Agreed. We should just do a review anyway that we know all is good. The only hold up should be if the AFL wanted to do a league wide review in which case it wouldn't make a lot of sense to do our own when it can all be bundled up.
Agree that the scope of the Hawthorn report should be opened up as they, and the wider AFL should understand if the issue is race, power or both.
As for Simmo's comments, they were certainly ill-advised but far from racist. I imagine if we came across another potential Ben Cousins scenario we'd be steering clear, even if they attended a private school. I took Simmo's comments as being one of resourcing - give us better resources and we can afford to put more time and effort into talented kids who might need a little extra help and/or guidance.

Good and expected response from the Eagles - there won’t be a club in the league that isn’t open to review from external parties.

We’re not suggesting anything but have been badgering the club “for days” seeking answers.

It may have been better to say 'we look forward to participating in a league wide independent review, if one is implemented by the AFL. If not, the WCE intend to run an independent review of the club and treatment of indigenous players past and present'
AFL probably wouldn't like it though as it seems to put pressure back on them for a wide ranging review.
Let's be honest though, we aren't going to come out of a review squeaky clean. In recent times we've had Jetta and Cameron both leaving where maybe they shouldn't have. Ryan and Sampi with issues on the home front at stages. Plus there was a significant period of time there where we had 0 first nations players in our best 22.
No Idea about how the club handled all of these different scenarios, but I would be shocked if at least 1 wasn't done in a way that could have been handled better.
Hence the need for a review. We may be close to the Gold standard in the AFL (or not, who knows), but even if so we can always improve.

You gotta laugh. There’s no doubt we are going to do the open to review statement to look like the good corporate citizens we are since thats our number 1 objective but hell, this mob cant review the footy department, s and c, fitness or anything else in the organisation and get that correct…. What chances if they took this one it would somehow be correct.
