Obviously this is a hypothetical but if our head coach was embroiled in something like this I wouldn't make excuses for it - I think.

To their credit many North, Hawthorn and Brisbane supporters haven't been on the offensive - but for some, in particular the North board, it makes for disturbing reading at times.

I have no issue with supporters of those clubs impacted waiting for both sides of the story before they make judgement. They shouldn’t be excusing or justifying the behaviour either because what’s been reported is pretty reprehensible

It’s just a shame that it’s going to be played out so publicly now and take months to resolve.

I don't tend to drift too far outside of the Eagles board (football wise anyway, I'm more likely to be in the videogames board etc if I'm not in the Eagles board), so haven't seen too much of what other supporters are saying, timed it well today by popping into the main board thread just as stuff started to leak though!

In the words of Pauline Hanson - "Piss off" Now you are misquoting me. I didn't call them liars. All that I said was that the young lady was in an emotionally sensitive state and may have taken what I interpreted as very innocent remarks from Clarkson out of context. Somebody else had earlier threw the suggestion out there about what motivated the player to tell his girlfriend to consider abortion. I have just restated that it's not out of the realms of possibility. We have to keep our minds open at this point.

So stop being a virtue signalling twatt, put your brain into gear and think before you start making accusations at me. I am not suggesting that anybody lied, I am considering all possibilities in this open forum.

I'd suggest that as senior AFL coaches, Clarkson and Fagan in 2022, would have a highly developed EQ coupled with a lot better insight on how to talk to players and managing relationships than perhaps you. These are generally good traits that the better AFL coaches all possess. Do you really imagine that highly respected player/coaches with their years of experience would be that clumsy and dull witted in managing their players?

Have you in fact considered the possibility that this might have been all about money to begin with? That throwing a few accusations and misinterpretations back at the Hawthorn FC, that this couple might have thought that Hawthorn would want to settle the matter privately with a payout regardless of guilt or innocence? But because the allegation has been made, you cannot put that Genie back in the lamp. It has to be reported and investigated fully in 2022. Yesterday when the gravity of that hit those accusing, many did not want to be interviewed or take part in any further investigation. Doesn't that seem odd? Wouldn't you stand by your principles and fight it all the way? They've already admitted that they are broke and have no future prospects - there's a motive.

Perhaps the real story is the fact that Hawthorn FC couldn't blame shift the accusations out to former coaches who are no longer part of their club fast enough. After all who's been doing all of the leaking to the media to take the heat away from Hawthorn? Have you considered?

Just because the accusers are Aboriginal and have whipped out the "racist card" does not mean that they cannot be wrong or possibly lying. Aboriginals do not hold a monopoly on virtuous behaviour anymore than any other culture. We must be mindful that the accusers in this instance potentially have a lot to gain financially and that people have made false accusations before for money. If they are lying (and that's an "if") then a fair and impartial investigation will find that out. If they aren't and their allegations are upheld, then Clarkson and Fagan will be re-considering their career options and they and the Hawthorn FC will be paying out a handsome financial compensation.

And for the record, it is just hearsay. It is one groups words against the other.

This reminds me of when the Essendon supplements saga was unfolding as supporters desperately tried to latch onto anything in the face of impending doom. It's not their fault, but North are set to have their messiah taken away before he even sets foot in his office at Arden Street.

He was appointed on 18/8 which is about 3 weeks or so before it was given to Hawthorn

Clarkson himself seems to have been unaware of them until the news broke last week

Jesus, that leaked email is something.

Even the staunchest “let’s hear them all out” defenders would have to agree that Hawthorn receiving emails like that from a player’s partner in 2013, and not acting or investigating, is decidedly average.

Multiple members of staff receiving, and one member of staff acknowledging receipt of, those emails should surely trigger an integrity investigation that doesn’t take a decade to come out.

For such a savvy PR club to not openly accept the possibility of Simmo being implicated beggars belief!

I’m not saying he was or wasn’t part of the serious allegations, but he was in the coaching staff when the allegations allegedly took place.

That alone would be reason to get on the front foot and discuss the club’s position on supporting our head coach.

If they leave this any longer it’s paramount to leaving him out to dry and seeing where the dust settles.

Calm your ****, you've been jumpy since this first broke slinging accusations about Jetta and Cameron's treatment at the club and implying we didn't look after them.

Simpson wasn't the only ex-Hawks assistant to go through those doors. You've got the likes of Luke Beveridge, Adem Yze, Brendan Bolton, Damien Hardwick, Brett Ratten etc who have also spent time at the Hawks as assistants and are still active, none of them have issued statements.

Can't find the emails for some reason, but can get the gist based on reporting. Yeah, this is how you sink ships when it comes to meetings where parties deny saying what was said. I was a lawyer prior to a career change and they bang into you, make contemporaneous records. An email sent after the fact, or notes made, hold up and support your story well after the actual meeting has passed. Clarkson and Co can deny it all they want, but direct emails stating it happened that were sent 9? years ago at the time, make it very very hard to believe Clarkson and Co's side of the story.

Yes, the emails have to be verified.
