Love all the “why should Kelly nominate a team not a state” arguments.

“Why does it matter which team, if he gets to his home state that counts a going home”

Every player in every trade has nominated a team. Nobody gets shopped around to the 10 Victorian clubs. It’s name a team, go there. It’s a weird, broken system, but it doesn’t seem to be an issue until players move out of Victoria. Not even worth mentioning all the players Geelong have acquired due to this. Nobody cares that Patton wants the Hawks. Nobody cares that Hill wants the Saints. Nobody cares that Papley wants the Blues. It’s a non issue there, but Kelly wants to come home and it’s suddenly home state is good enough? Nah mate.

“Oh yeah, but all those players have done more years of service than Kelly.”

There was no outrage over Jack Scrimshaw leaving GC to join the Hawks. He did two years of service, as a top 10 pick, and then ****ed off to the Hawks because he wanted out. Sure, he didn’t have the runs on the board that Kelly has, but tenure wasn’t mentioned once then. So is tenure really the issue here? Nah mate.

If anything, Kelly informing the world he didn’t want to leave WA, being drafted interstate anyway, balling out, requesting a trade, balling out again and completing the terms of his contract in the most impressive fashion possible is a much better scenario? Geelong should be happy they got so much out of him, which has driven his price up, and then join the rest of us in reality.

Tenure isn’t the issue, don’t lie. You’re annoyed you’re losing a star player to the lure of going home. Welcome to every non-Victorian clubs annual plight. Other players don’t nominate home states, they go to Victoria with a team in mind and end up on that team. Always have, always will, Kelly an Eagle in 2020 and there’s very little your BigFooty tears can do about it. Please keep posting them though xoxo

and Joe Daniher has announced he wants to go to Sydney for “lifestyle reasons.” I bet Essendon doesn’t try to make him go to GWS

Dammit thats the excuse Kelly should of gone with!

"I now formally identify as an Eagle and wish to live with my own kind."

One variation of that I've seen is that it does matter for players requesting to go back to Victoria, but not for players requesting to go to Geelong - because of its semi-rural location and the nature of Victorian traffic it's a law unto itself.

Although to be fair some of the posters pushing that have accepted that Brisbane and Gold Coast may be a similar situation, which is good news for all the Queensland kids across the league that are clamouring to get home.

I have realised over the last week that the entire Geelong football club is obsessed with us...
.. At their B&F their CEO said something like "we are in a good financial position, not as good as West Coast, but good enough".

That sort of stuff treakles down in to the fan base, and this trade represents an existential threat to them.

We've been living rent free since 92, and didn't even know it.
That's weird, because their CEO is former eagles during the 90s premiership years CEO Brian Cook

So you are ignoring me and yet you are quoting posts from the geelong board. A little hypocritical.
So are you either in the discussion or not. I merely asked a question, and you have abused and told me that you dont respond to me yet continue to do so.

On your board we get banned at the drop of a hat while copping a lot of abuse. Visitors to our board are always given a fair go. Just don’t expect to treat us like s……t on you board then pretend to be reasonable over here and expect more.

I did some reading on the P Dangerfield trade and you were very busy in those posts. Interesting that your view of what is fair when trading for an uncontracted player is the opposite there to what it is regarding T Kelly.

Was recently on Holiday in QLD and there is this incredible invention called a train that goes all the way from the Brisbane CBD to the Gold Coast. Blew my mind.

Honestly its not Geelong's fault they are based in pre industrial area that has not been introduced to the steam engine yet.

stop making sense you’ll scare the cats fans away

I would ask what is his pressing need. To get home, and home is in WA. This would mean either Freo or WCE. This would satisfy his need to be closer to his family network and support network. Further he played for the local Fremantle club. So if his tier one priority was to get home, then either of these two options satisfies this need. If his next tier was to setup his family etc, given he was on low wages 2 years ago etc, then either FREO or GFC satisfy these needs, as they are providing the more lucrative contracts.
So what we have here is a player who wants to play for WCE for personal success, and to be close to his family.
On the other side there is the valuation of this worth. On exposed form is he as valuable as Neale and Weller and many would say yes.

I would ask why did G Ablett Junior, Rohan, Dangerfield etc etc etc specifically choose Geelong. Just because he has stronger family reasons does not cancel out the same rights everyone else has to nominate a club of choice.

It would bring me the greatest joy if Geelong were sued for restaint of trade. They have been unprecidented arseholes to the Kelly family.

To be fair, they havent done anything at this stage. The trade period hasn't even started.

They were well within their rights to keep him last year and it was the correct call.

I suspect I know the answer but I’m genuinely curious what the reaction would have been had Kelly nominated Fremantle as his preferred destination rather than West Coast

Very much doubt there’d be remotely the same level of angst

Freo have better draft picks to offer, partly as a result of them not being in immediate competition for a flag any time soon. Geelong would be happy to take their first pick at 7 and walk away.

Pretty simple, really.

There would be when Bell lowballs them. They and the media would just be expecting Freo to hand over 6&7. Freo would drive a harder bargain than us because that's how they trade, and they have all the leverage.
