Away from the Kelly talk for a moment

Given what we received for Lycett, Richmond can consider themselves a little hard done by

Its like when we got the same for selwood .
You have to remember that the pay scales going up every year

There would be when Bell lowballs them. They and the media would just be expecting Freo to hand over 6&7. Freo would drive a harder bargain than us because that's how they trade, and they have all the leverage.

Bell would offer 7 and ask for Kelly and 17. He would sit there and say that's the best we're going to offer otherwise we'll pick him up in the draft. Has form as a cold ass mofo.

He'd probably even then keep pick 6, draft Kelly with it and split pick 7 for 2 picks between 10-20.

Geelong should be thankful they are dealing with a club like ours that likes to promote a positive culture of open trading, fairness and being mutually beneficial. Family, Friends, Flags.

Theoretically yes. In reality Kelly isn’t going to go down that path, so it’s not worth trying to wrap your remaining brain cells around the concept.

Also, since you’ve chosen to venture over here and since I can only post on your board by showing the utmost respect to posters such as yourself who show me less than none, let me repay the favour and take this opportunity to tell you to fu** off.

I haven’t been over the the Geelong board in days, I’m saving my load for when we finally grab him. Let me just say though that of the great man himself, one of our most tolerant as a matter of fact is telling Geelong posters to now **** off then they truly have run feral over there.

I really hope we get Kelly and **** them over in the Process. I shall rip out the multiple vpn’s I have access to at work at bombard the shit out of their page for a week straight. I might even take a week off work so I can truly dedicate myself to the cause and test the competence of their mods.

Can....not.....wait.

Oh and as for the trade?

Offer them this years first and next years first. If that’s not enough then **** them.

Tell Kelly to categorically state publicly there is no chance he ever goes backs to Geelong and privately tell Fremantle that the only way he gets to them is if they draft him and it will be only for one year and he might suddenly find himself deeply depressed by it all and need time away from football...just like McCarthy.....ask a few boys at the club if they don’t mind us moving a few dollars around on their contracts and then tell Tim to nominate for draft... One year. 2 Million.

Let’s see what they do then. We prefer to play nice and keep relationships intact and all our news private but if they really want to force our hand we will push back.

I suspect I know the answer but I’m genuinely curious what the reaction would have been had Kelly nominated Fremantle as his preferred destination rather than West Coast

Very much doubt there’d be remotely the same level of angst

It wouldn’t ruffle nearly as many feathers. We’re a threat, they’re not, it’s that simple.

Nobody cared that Tom Mitchell bailed on Sydney, people only got annoyed because he was going to the threepeat era Hawthorn team.

So you are ignoring me and yet you are quoting posts from the geelong board. A little hypocritical.
So are you either in the discussion or not. I merely asked a question, and you have abused and told me that you dont respond to me yet continue to do so.

Since you want to tell us to piss off on your board and constantly want to bait us with West Coke and talk about culture may I remind you that as messed up as someone like Ben Cousins life has turned out to be at least we can hold our heads high knowing that at least a club great of ours never contributed to the overdose and subsequent death of a young girl, wraps his mobile phone in tin foil and brought forth his hell spawn of an off spring who thinks it’s cool to be Jesus little darling and preach his horseshit rhetoric gay bashing bullshit.

If I had to choose between Cousins and that... **** me.. do I even need to spell it out?

Just of curiosity.

If he went to the draft and say GC drafts him.

Does he have the right to stay in perth and be a bum for a year, not playing a single game, as he told every club his perth condition?

Probably would end up something similar to McCarthy before he joined Freo. I just don't see why a team would put a player through that, especially GC who are trying to build a culture at the club.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but I’d be going hard for the saints pick 6. Even if it takes 14 and next years first. One pick infront of freo, removes their threat altogether. Offer that and that only to Geelong. If not, we threaten to draft him there anyway. Plus 14 for brad hill sounds about right.

Remember last year when bell announced the hogan trade is off and walked away . Then melbourne came crawling back and lost all leverage

st kilda need currency as they have too much going on
they have too many target and no currency
i can see them shipping off WA boys to get picks in,
i reckon the blues offer wce the best upgrade scenario
otherwise shipping a few players off to gold coast

I was impressed with how he got the price down on a player with both injury and off-field issues too.

It’s not going to happen. There’s a theoretical argument that the draft and trade system is an invalid restraint of trade, as the NSWRL’s draft was found to be in the early 1990s, but no one wants a long drawn out court case to sort it out.

We’ll just deal with the system we’ve got and pay what we need to pay to get Kelly over.
Pick 39 is less than they would have liked. Would have been a complete joke if they got 20 due to GC having to pay overs to get decent players to their club.

I'm starting to think we should get rid of the Draft all together. It is too compromised with NGA/F&S/FA comp picks. It no longer does what it is supposed to do.

IMO the draft itself is fine the way it currently works. Maybe not fine but manageable.

What completely ****s it up is all the shit the AFL have heaped on top of it with this completely ****ing ridiculous "Restricted free agent/free agent/compensation pick to keep everyone happy" system over the top of it.

There should be no such thing as a "Restricted free agent". You finish your contract, you're free to sign with whoever you want.

There should be no such thing as a "compensation pick". You lose a player, the compensation is salary cap space.

There should be no minimum salary cap spend. All senior players on an AFL list should be guaranteed X salary (lets say $150k, $100k rookies). Once that is met the clubs should be free to spend the rest of the salary cap however they want.

The system is dogshit at the moment because player movements are frozen behind stupid barriers. If the AFL wanted equality then MORE player movement creates a MORE equal system.

Let's use the Tim Kelly situation; Geelong clearly don't want to lose him because at the moment there's no way to replace him. Draft picks are ok but you're looking at a 3-5 years investment generally before they come good in the AFL system.

If there was a Free Agent market, at the end of last season Geelong could think to themselves "Ok, so we'll trade Tim to the Eagles for (picks whatever) yeah it sucks to lose him but next season players X,Y,Z are free agents and we can go to the draft AND look at bringing in someone to replace him.

Or this season Tim could go to the Eagles as a Free Agent and Geelong would be able to look at the pool of other Free Agents and get a replacement (maybe not like for like but someone else?) or reinforce other positions.

God i hate our system.
