Correct, as per the policy which stipulated that a person born a woman but lives and identifies as a man, would not be permitted enrollment, whereas a person born as man who lives and identifies as woman would.

I support that policy as thinks its great. And said as much when Portia posted it.

I was focusing on the absurdity that the transgender person, Tim, a man - was being stopped from a leadership position in an all female university despite the fact he was born a woman.

Not a problem in the world with that at all. A person who chose to do this was being discriminated against. Which is funny - as transgender people would have to be among the most marginalised in western society.

He's a man applying for a representative role at a women's college...and you can't see the issue? It's not about him. It's about the role he would be performing. What would a man know about the issues a woman has to face? The whole reason he transitioned into being a man was because he didn't feel he could relate to being a woman - and yet he feels he's able to represent them?

I don't pretend to have great understanding of your situation Portia, nor comprehend the difficulties that you have encountered due to it, but wanted to put forward a generic message of support.

As has been uncovered on here previously on themes such as sexual abuse, sexism and racism we have a diverse community brought together here. It is probably inevitable that offense will occasionally be taken where it isn't intended however there are also some subjects, such as the above, that should be taboo as joking about them can further marginalise or cause undue distress to those who are living through them. As somebody said earlier it is all about empathy.

Generally this is one of the best forums I have been on for navigating these issues (you wouldn't even start this kind of battle on a fishing or brewing forum) but as always improvement is possible, individually and collectively. Hopefully you can recover from this Portia and stick around as your contribution to our board has been and remains invaluable.

Slowly discovering how many of you work from home.
I live at work. Have to pretend I'm leaving with everyone else each night. Then I sleep in the toilets because it's not covered once the security system kicks in. Weekends are hard, long weekends unbearable.

Way to further the point of the left eating eachother.
I think it shows that there is always debate on the left as there is grey in the issues, the simplicity of the right is its attraction to many. The point of progressive (and occasionally regressive unfortunately) thought is to constantly re-evaluate ones opinions in the light of new information and experiences.

On the right it is often as simple as We Good/They Bad, which doesn't lend itself to much debate.

If I was on the dole I'd basically have the same MO as you

Get paid by the government to shitpost

I'm a self-funded* shitposter. I want the Reserve Bank to "hike" interest rates.

* that's probably a stretch - I'm a Superannuated Commonwealth Officer. But I still want the Reserve Bank to increase interest rates.

Utter surrender to either side's views is possible. 'Land rights for gay whales' beautifully summed up complete surrender to left-wing obsessions in its day.
The weird thing is the attachment of side issues. I grew up with even mildly left-orientated people implacably opposing nuclear power. Now, in a way I can't even understand, great swathes of the right oppose replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy.

For a second I thought I was going to slip in to the Piston role around here, but a night of lively to and fro with a few random posts inbetween relating to dogs has passed, and I had nothing to do with it!
