It will be great to see another rivalry get up! I can understand that the Swans supporters wouldn't have thought much of GWS, but now they've got a win against you, it's time to hate hate hate! Embrace the rivalry :thumbsu:

Used to like them, then James McDonald sniped Parker in their first match. Greene last night kept hacking at McVeighs wrist. Buddy getting absolutely mauled by them when he and Davis got in a scuffle and nothing.

Their fans still don't even know their song 3 seasons into their existence. And they are close to on par with Collingwood with the amount of teeth in their cheer squad.

Let's get this back on topic...

So, how long before GWS' COLA, err, sorry, um, "franchise allowance" is revoked now that they've beaten us? Come on, let's start a campaign like the rest of the AFL did against us!

Won't happen until they beat Hawthorn.

Up until yesterday any so called rivalry was manufactured and forced. We now have the start of something genuine.

I look forward to the day both sides fans can pack out ANZ and display a showdown style hatred of one another.

Really 36,000 vs what? 700 actual GWS fans and 8,000 people who hate the swans?

That's not a showdown style hatred the moment GWS start dominating they won't even have the 8,000 peasants they have now, their supporter base consists solely of ex-pat Victorian flogs they still follow scumbag sides like Collingwood (as demonstrated by their sub human behaviour) they buy gws memberships because their cheap that's it. This outburst of public masturbation of our loss says it all, nobody cares that GWS won, only that we lost.

The moment these clowns defeat the actual team's that the GWS fans actually support it will be left to wither a way to dust.

That will be a long time coming..i dont think i will be around to wait that long.

I dont know anyone who likes GWS let alone is enamoured with Australian rules in sydney, swan fans being the exception.

Thats my observation from the game i went too last year. A lot of GWS fans are either ex pat victorians who support one of the big clubs and are showing their support for AFL in sydney OR casual swans supporters who didnt really feel like they belonged in red and white..and tbh there really isnt a lot of them. I really didnt come across anyone who was there as a new spectator of rules. Maybe they have a dozen or so but i didnt see this at all. Saw heaps of multi scarfs on display.

AFL fans, particularly in melbourne, love to follow the underdog, even going as far as buying a support or sympathy membership. But as soon as the team become good and is a threat to their teams chances of a flag well things start to get real and "sympathy" memberships are not renewed the following year.

Conversely, once they start winning, kids will start supporting them. And THAT is what the AFL cares about most.

Its a lose lose game and they are a waste of time

We won the first four and it was seen as nothing and we lose one and the sky falls, we cant win

I dont give a crap about the rivalry they dont seem like a real team

Ha ... and you wonder why they're extra pleased to beat us? And why the rest of the friggin league are revelling in the result? ... This is typical of the arrogance that has spread through this board in recent years and was particularly prevalent before every game v the Giants. Not any more.

"They are a waste of time", "They don't seem like a real team"??? Yet they fckng smashed us, they deserved to win and we deserved to get our quoits kicked.

When does the complacency dry up on this board? How about some credit where its due ... well done to the Giants; for starters, they've now done more than their share in turning this into a genuine rivalry, which, whether we as Swans fans like it or not right now, is great for the future of football in Sydney.

For starters, good on Mumford for his reminder to Sydney management what the club gave up to get Franklin. Let's hope Pyke doesn't go down with a long-term injury, our troubles might be only just starting.

I've said it before and will say it again now, and I don't care about copping flak, whatever the outcome of the next few season; we jumped the shark signing Franklin. And anyone denying the discontent in player ranks is fooling themselves. This is round 1, I concede that, and I'll be more than happy to stand up and apologise if the Franklin deal delivers us a flag this season and in years to come but I have grave fears for the immediate future of our club.

I take it you have thrown away your inaugural GWS foundation membership medallion?

There is no rivalry for me yet only a growing respect and admiration.
I really enjoyed watching them take us apart last night and again today, well except for the score line.
They were enthusiastic, relentless, arrogant, confident, courageous they hit in hard never taking a backward step, they had belief were first to the ball they could smell blood in the water and played like it. I loved the way they got in our faces, the little dirty push offs on our heads when getting up from packs and contests, the niggling harassment, finishing their tackles taking the wind out of us, yep they just wanted it so much more. I really loved the way they went about it was enjoyable to watch.
I think the GWS win is great for football and the comp it will take more than that win to create a rivalry for me, Im more dirty on the effort we put up. I cant help but admire them, for now..

Completely agree, well said.

That kind of attitude will see you be nothing but negative most times and to me thats not what supporting a team is all about. If you feel that for the next 9 years Buddy is going to give you a massive case of heartburn then move on as much as you love the club, thats if you do considering you are a GWS fan. I am not saying to shut up and take what you are given as you are allowed to express your thoughts on all things swans, but if this is going to be a constant thing where no matter what buddy does you are set in stone on your opinions on the franklin deal then move on. Or at least tone it down to reasonable discussion amongst fans without the constant smugness.

I find it annoying that you expect us, swans fans, to show humility for the GWS loss then in the next paragraph proceed to push your sanctimonious attitude on the rest of us.

Will be interesting to revive these comments and threads if we things go well for the remainder of the season.

Totally subjective there Bedford. Confirmation bias and all that.

There seems to be a small collective of older swans fans on here who feel as the older statesmen they have a right to think they have more of an understanding of the game than the rest of us because you know they watched Skilton debut.

Hold up, the goat has been a long-running member of this site and has been right about some of his opinions in the past. I know you weren't to know about his history on the board as you have only just joined. I'm not saying I agree with everything he says, because I don't, but he is just expressing a contrary view and he has a point about the arrogance. The Giants went in harder than us and deserved the win.

Okay, much better I just kiss ring for the next nine years ... yours, Buddy's, management's ... where's the sanctimonious attitude? I stated an opinion, one I've held for months ... maybe about as long as you've been a member of the board. You wanna keep your head in the sand, that's fine.

well after being heckled by a few louts on the train after the game really hate these plastic Syd's. one of the blokes still had the price tag on his stupid cap. pissed as mutes drinking VB (seriously vb?) acting like dicks.

I asked them if they knew there teams song and that shut them up :)

Sorry this happened to you. This kinda nonsense has no place in our rivalry. Save it for that silly round ball game, if I was there I would have told them to pull their heads in. Cheers.
