Most of our midfield is young, if you want to be blooding players do it down back (A.Pearce 2 games already this season) or up forward with Taberner who is playing and Apeness is injured. Sheridan and Crozier have been getting games over MDB and Mzungu already this season, who are people suggesting we drop so Blakely can have a token game before being sent back to Peel after the bye?

Speaking of sub par performances, I seem to recall us giving a number of fringe players a run against "easy beats" St Kilda last year. Didn't work out so well.
I think our highly accountable game style under Lyon makes it hard to make too many changes at once without the structure going pear shaped. We should accept there won't be wholesale changes without a better reason.

The fact is Suban is crap and we may as well get games into his replacements when we're in the position. If anyone here thinks GCS are a danger game, then they have no clue about football. Next week is the easiest game we will play as the GCS are pretty much equal to a WAFL side with injuries and off the field problems.

Also lets not forget a player like Blakely will perform better in actually playing in a team opposed to the crap Peel set up. If he can get 12 disposals thats pretty much Subans contribution. Perhaps he may even last the whole game.

We saw how effective PAV was today when he played sore. Resting sore players, and rewarding great effort in the WAFL is a win win

We don't have anyone in the WAFL we could bring in for him. We don't have a single key forward playing for Peel.

What should be happening is a core group of 26 -28 players (subject to injury and depending on match ups against opposition played), should be GENTLY rotated in and out of the team as required.
A couple of weeks of average performance by anybody rewards some one else with a game.
We have never been in this position (prior to Friday night) before and having the same 22 playing every week purely because we are winning lets a few average performances by individuals fly under the radar.
Guys in question over last few weeks, Sutcliffe, Suban Duffield.
Not sure what Muz has done wrong, but am a little concerned there may be a few favourites getting a gig and good WAFL form not being rewarded.
Not a Winge as very happy to date with the teams form, but more a case of sharpening the pencil and giving the team a tweak.

Actually, Tabs didn't play the week before. And Morabito was the sub. How many full games, the kind that require you to uphold the team structure, do you think Mora, Tabs or Sylvia (let alone Griffin) had played at that point of the season?

Not sure if it has been mentioned here but Mark Stone was interviewed on 6PR this morning and there was discussion and questions around Mzungu and de Boer not getting games. His explanation was that it is partly that the team has been winning and therefore there has been a reluctance to change a winning formulae but he added that it was also about internal KPI's on effort and roles that players are measured against and that it was unfair to make changes when players have largely been meeting their KPI's as such.

Separately, he also ran the company line that Pav is only suffering from soreness and nothing more sinister at this stage as when he crosses the white line he declares himself fit to play.

I would have thought what is more important that a player is playing well rather than meeting a certain KPI or putting in a certain level of effort.

All three had afl experience and one was a late change. If Freo can't win with a débutant this week well far out then we have issues. Blakely would do just fine and if not then at least the coaches can work on things with him from the insight of exposure he would get.

I hope the team keeps blooding new players. But they've shown every indication of being cautious in recent years of having too many fresh faces on the park at once. Sheridan and Crozier haven't cemented their spots yet, and Tabs is still flaky.

They came back to Tabs and are investing in him., but other than that it's been a conservative approach. Ross says you play your way in or out, but looked to me like they didn't hesitate in dropping Duffy or Crozier.

There is no need to play the likes of Blakey an weller when we've got mz and spurr likely to be available next week.Bank the wins and debut the likes of Blakely etc etc once we've got a top 2 spot secured!

It is not about debuting players.
Its about every player earning his spot.
Can not let winning be the reason we stay the same every week. Improvement needs to come and players who feel they are comfortable with their spot in the team only because we have won does not create a healthy work rate.
If a player is down on form or effort for several weeks then a well performing replacement (established or debutant) should be given an opportunity providing he can fit into the team structure.
Best to go into finals with 26-28 players who have had a taste of a few games because injuries will come.

Why does it matter how many minutes Duffy played? They took a risk using him as sub against two top four opponents. Hardly the "conservative" approach as you stated they took after the St Kilda loss.
