just seen over there that we supposedly can't start a rebuild with picks 1 + 27... but somehow we can with picks 2 + ~20?

We can’t “start” our rebuild with 1 and 27.

Ignoring two first rounders last year and other good rookies including MSD pick we picked up.

To elaborate on that trade of 26 from Carlton to 28 from Gold Coast

Gold Coast hold pick 27 so when a bid comes in on Walter they’ll lose 24,27,28 so pick 28 will slide back to 26 anyway. Carlton lose nothing, Gold Coast get ~50 extra points

We should trade 23 to Gold Coast for 24 and 62. Pick 23 would disappear in the Walter bid matching so we’ve lost no ground but get a late pick (62 - better than Geelongs 76 they held out for) we can take to the draft. Gold Coast don’t have enough list spots to hold 62 and get 30 extra points, we move up from 81 to 62

Haggled for 2 weeks for 76 and 94.

FMD, Geelong weren’t lying when they said they were on the hunt for mor picks in the draft. Won’t know who won that trade now for a few years, will need to see how good picks 76 and 94 work out.

Gotta laugh at the “every pick is valuable”. Those two picks could have been anywhere from 50-150 and you’d still get the same two players because they’re likely the last 2 picks in the draft. In fact not doing the trade at all would have left them in the same position

Port don’t have a pick until R6 in this years draft, notionally pick 112 which admittedly will come in once list spots are finalised. They have 0 draft points

They also have no R1 or R4 pick next year, just their R2 and R3 picks

They might get a pick back in the Duursma-Two dads trade but Dildoro can throw away the lube and go in dry - Port can’t walk BZT to the PSD because someone will take him before they have a pick. Probably Adelaide

So if they get thrown a pick it’ll be a (very) late one

Would net us 5 1st round selections over 2 drafts as opposed to just Reid and one midfielder next year. As much as I like Reid and next years top mids I think that would be hard to go past.

Collard is not worth a pick in the 20's when there is a high chance he slides later and or he does not make it interstate and walks home in 2 years time.
