I've been pretty consistent in saying that I personally value the ability to have control over my destiny. At pick 2 you are 99% getting the player you want. Those percentages drop every pick.

Admittedly, this draft is unique where it seems like you can predict the top 8-10 with relative ease. I just don't like the idea of losing a sure thing.
We shouldn't be overly concerned with what other clubs lose. For us it is about what we get. If we can trade in to picks 2 & 3 which allows us to get our top 3 players then do it and let the other clubs worry about themselves.

I don't care about what other clubs lose lol. I'm simply giving reasoning as to why North wouldn't do the deal.

Has the AFL announced the changes to the Trading/drafting/bidding system yet? They will need to announce it soon because this will affect the trading of future 2025 picks this coming trade period.
They announced no changes this year to the points/bidding system other than allowing clubs to match at any point during the draft instead of what it was previously which was you can only match after a certain point in the draft.
More significant changes will come in next year.

1 - ours
2 - Trade 6 and 10 - 600 point surplus to the Roos, who may need volume of kids rather than 1 more
3 - Trade Baker and 9 - points difference would estimate Bakers value at pick 25

so it would just be what on top of 6 would we get from GC in the Rioli deal, so best case 13

so if all these deals go as planned, we could have

1 , 2 , 3 , 13 , 21 , 29

We overpay north in that deal
the WC deal prob under values Baker as well\
So it's not as if we are trying to rip anyone off in these deals.

The biggest issue I see, is just that North and WC don't want to take the risk and so the deal, even if the deals favour them.

We may also try and package up some later deals to move up the order a bit with clubs with academy/F/S selections
I think we need a volume of kids more than they do. I'd be happy if we can wheel and deal our way to 1, 3, 6, 9/10 and get Brissy's first pick and have one in the low 20s. Trade our other 20s to get into R1 next year.

Knowing the AFL, they'll do it a day or two before the trade period starts.

We start with 1 // 21, 29 // 39, 41 // 49, 58, 65

Brisbane's pick 14 (assuming they lose) is actually going to be pick 16 (after Ashcroft and Lombard bids), so any points discussions should be based on it being pick 16. I know there's other NGA / F/S picks around the 15-30 mark, but let's assume that only those 2 bids get matched. All picks from ~3 onwards get pushed out by 1, and by ~7 onwards by 2.

24 for Graham via FA
7 and 22 for Rioli (with us paying part of 2 years salary)
11, 12, and 17 for Bolton and 22 (with us paying part of 2 years salary)
4 and 26 for Baker, 12, and 31

We then have 1, 4, 7, 11, 17 // 23, 24, 26 // 39, 41 // 49, 58, 65

16 (1067) from Brisbane for 26, 39, 41, 58 (1757). If they can't turn pick 26 into more points from other teams, they should be stripped of a license. Melbourne could easily give them the points they need (have 38, 46, 50)

We then have 1, 4, 7, 11, 16, 17 // 23, 24 // 49, 65

Can trade 23/24 to teams for future 1sts (Melbourne would be top of my list)

Can use 49 (will come in about 5 picks after bid matching) as well as our PSD Pick 1 to trade in fringe players from other teams; Nathan O'Driscoll, Konstanty, Stone, Bond, Fahey, Serong, etc.

Upgrade Bauer with 65

Finish with 1, 4, 7, 11, 16, 17
Plus 2 future 1sts
Plus 2 quality fringe players in the 20-25 age bracket
This should be the goal. However I'd seek to upgrade the second pick to 13 for Rioli if we are paying a chunk of his salary.

Deals I'd make using our current trade assests

Starting point
1, 21, 29, 39, 41, 47, 57, 66, 73 & 75
Baker
Bolton
Rioli

Rioli to Suns for 6 & 13. We pay 1-2 years salary.

1, 6, 13, 21, 29, 39, 41, 47, 57, 66, 73 & 75
Baker
Bolton

Bolton to Dockers for 9, 10 & 17. We pay 1-2 years salary.

1, 6, 9, 10, 13, 17, 21, 29, 39, 41, 47, 57, 66, 73 & 75
Baker

Baker, 10 & 21 to Eagles for 3 & 23

1, 3, 6, 9, 13, 17, 23, 29, 39, 41, 47, 57, 66, 73 & 75

9 13 & 29 to North for 2 & 22

1, 2, 3, 6, 17, 22, 23, 39, 41, 47, 57, 66, 73 & 75

39, 41, 47, 57, 66 to Lions for 14

Head to the draft with:
1, 2, 3, 6, 14, 17, 22, 23, 73 & 75

8 picks inside 30. 4 of the first 7 players drafted. Possibility that we get another pick in the early 20s for Graham if he departs as well.

All the deals are fair to both parties but favour Richmond because at the end of the day we should be looking out for us and not concerned with who other clubs may or may not be able to get with their picks.

For example if North want KPPs giving them picks 9 & 13 gives them 2 cracks at it. With the likes of the Whitlocks Shanahan Faull Trainor & Armstrong possibly on the board at those picks they can still get what they need, but not necessarily their first choice. That's not our problem if they don't trade 2 to us they can keep it or get lesser value from another club.

Geeze would be insane if we can pull anything off in the ballpark of this

Probably just about unprecedented (for a Victorian club anyway)

Not saying we're going to have that, but we're in an unprecedented position for a club that isn't an expansion side when it comes to the ability to control the draft and trade period this year and I hope that Blair is being aggressive in his dealings to try and ensure we get the best possible hand.

The club better be bloody right then. My fear is this isn't a super draft, just an even draft and we are getting conned into who we think is top 5.
Yeah right! We are just accepting the media hype and haven't bothered assessing it for ourselves🙄
Have some faith that our recruiting team and List Manager know how to assess a draft. We are trading in to this draft, tells me all I need to know.

FOS, Lalor and Draper?
Noone claiming to have inside word has Draper on our radar, not even lalor for that matter.

FOS, Jagga and Langford appear to be the 3 mentioned most.

That would be the perfect outcome, and it is a possibility.

I wouldn't be trading pick 21 to the Eagles though - Baker and 10 for 3.
Pick 21 - unless I'm mistaken is the first pick on the 2nd night.
It has a premium and clubs will come with good offers. We'll hold onto that.

I reckon we'll take 6 players, maybe 7 if we like who is on the board. Then trade the leftovers into next year.

Why? I have literally summarised this thread.

Not sure if you are a dumb campaigner or a confused campaigner?
