I dont have access to the article, but I'm a big fan of Jaeger.
Still think we go to the draft, but he is one I've always wished we had at Richmond.

I don't mind JOM but blow the bank?

Firstly pretty sure its break the bank.

When I googled to see what "blow the bank" meant it came up with blowie, blow job oral sex :drunk: Screen Shot 2021-09-28 at 3.44.02 pm.png

You know I remember a similar argument put up years ago in the 2004 draft.

We shouldn't get Lance Franklin, he is too similar to Matthew Richardson, can't work, they'll step on each others toes. Well, Richardson retired in 2009 and Franklin is still going (relatively) strong. And as it turned out Richardson (belatedly in my opinion) was given a wing/following position and played arguably his best football of the career.

Having two talents like Lynch and King is a first world problem. Hardwick is a three time premiership coach, I'm pretty confident he'd be up to the challenge of making it work. And remember if King were to make it to punt road in 2023 he'd be joining a 30 year old Lynch. And no I'm not retiring Lynch at 30, but even if we didn't get King we'd still be looking to recruit someone as a next generation forward to work with Lynch and eventually take over.

But again I want to repeat I am only cautiously enthusiastic about getting King as the trade collateral and salary cap could prove prohibitive. Plus we are talking about something that if it transpired would be next years trade period. A lot can happen between now and then. However, as a player getting him for 2023 would be perfect timing and he'd be an amazing acquisition.
Don't know where you heard that i have never heard it. What was a factor was Franklin was seen as a bit of a party boy and may not have had the right attitude to work hard.

On talent alone he was top 2 of 2004 but that attitude question rumour hung around and would not go away.

Originally i thought we didnt take Franklin because we had Richo and Schulz and didnt want another key fwd but that didnt really make sense as there was only the just arrived Schulz 2002 draft and Richo would be 30 at the start of 2005. We were also reported to be heavily into Roughead and when he went at two we still refused to take Franklin at 4.

Then we took Pattison with 16 who was totally the opposite to Franklin when we could have had Franklin at 4. We then continued to chase key fwds, in 05 hughes at 24. 06 traded pick 8 for 13 for Polak and eventually used 13 on Riewoldt.9 kpp in the 06 draft all taken from 2 thru 14 trading pick 8 almost backfired big time i suppose their thinking was they would take whatever tall was left lucky they only had a choice of two left and went with Riewoldt instead of Sellar.
It really showed they had no idea what they were doing.

On Ben King yep he would be a good get at this stage but come the end of 2023 Lynch could well be gone and Jack most likely and if we dont draft a kpf over the next to seasons then even if King comes there will only be him.

I dont think we are in a position where we cannot be drafting some promising key forwards we cant trade for all of them.

Not athletic enough for the AFL, which is the reason he slid to 36 in the draft and that no clubs have shown interest in him.

Fair enough, I'll be honest, never seen him play, going by the little I read and his height/weight.

The beauty of supporting a team that's been dominate the last 4/5years, have not cared about other players at all until this year. Now just going by what is written about them.

My son was watching Sydney Stacks debut season highlights on YouTube on Saturday! Wow even I forgot how good this guy can be, just needs to keep his head screwed on and he has no ceiling, almost no weakness to his game when in full flight.
I watched it a couple of months ago too and it was discussed a bit in the Stacky thread at the time. It's a great watch and if this kid can live up to his potential we have a jet on our hands.

Hope he's signed soon.

Maybe what we need to trade for is some injury luck. Melbourne had 10 players play every game in 2021... apparently the most ever. A healthy list is potentially the most important thing we need. The guys we have on the list right now are good enough if fit and healthy. Without natural improvement. Can't do much about contact injuries but having Nank and Soldo for the whole season would have made a difference as would have Edwards, Vlastuin, Bolton, Martin. The soft tissue injuries to Cotch and Prestia and to a lesser extent, Lambert are the major concerns.

Having said that, it's worth getting some improvement.....

If I could have any input, I'd be looking to get the Dogs first rounder in 2021, North's second rounder in 2022 and even a Pies 2022 pick if we can. If the Gold Coast's pick 3 is in play (or GWS pick's 2), then giving up 7 and something makes sense but if we could get it done so we keep 7 somehow, then that would be great. Gamble and use our 2022 first rounder. We can always get back in by trading the 2023 first rounder if we need to.

If we could wangle 3, 7, 17 and 20 something in 2021 (having traded out 28, 40, 44, Chol compo and 2022 first rounder) and then have 2 or 3 seconder rounders in 2022 (North, Pies and ours), then that gives us the impetus to turbo-charge our future core of premierships 15-17 and with some good injury luck, we'll pinch our 14th in the next 2 years. Not sure how the points work with all those picks but that would be my strategy. Ignore Mitchell and O'Meara and those guys. Back our core guys to be better after the break than they were in 2021, improvement from RCD, Ross, Stack, Balta, Rioli (both), Hugo.

The biggest issue for our game (in 2021) appears to be our forward line and transitioning the ball in. Then it's coming out too easily and we are shot the other way. We've lost Chol and CCJ which appeared to be where we were pinning our hopes. Time to let Caddy go back to what he does best, plays forward. We don't have a JR replacement (and didn't this year even with Chol/CCJ) so let's cash in on what he can do now. Draft gun kids in the next 2 drafts, integrate them as they become ready along with existing youngsters and away we go!
Voila !

He has missed less games in the past 4 seasons combined than Prestia did this year alone. He had his issues early in his career but he's fine now.

O'Meara is a gun and would suit us perfectly. Would cost too much in picks and money though.
hes not a gun , if he was with tom Mitchell there they'd finish higher than they did , we drew with them with a reserves midfield in . Hes a B-C grade player

Everyone is thinking if we trade up to the Suns that we're a midfielder, but what if we were trading up to get Gibcus instead. Tarrant is a short term Miller has played 1 game in 4 seasons for various reasons & Nyoun is still quite raw. Gibcus is 195cm & 84kg and would slot in nicely alongside Balta in a couple of years time when Tarrant may head off into the sunset.
dont like that idea, we desperately need a A grade mid , we got time to develop KPP (defence and forward) coz they wouldn't be playing R1 whether they were the son of god or not. we need gilt edged midfielders with early selections

Problem is that we have a distinct need for mids and mids now. We have been thrashed in clearances for years in a game that has now become all about clearance.

In a few years time we'll no doubt need talls to replace Tarrant but we'll also be facing a post-Dusty era and likely a bottoming out in the cycle (or at least a mild decline). Mids take less time and we need to take the shot at a flag that we have. If we can bring up the standard of our starting and second rotation mids we can arguably go again next year and potentially two-three years after that, besides also bringing up the standard of whatever our bottoming out in the cycle looks like. Balta and Lynch are good book ends for that timeframe and drafting in the second round for talls and developing has worked out OK thus far.

Also while I have no doubt Gibcus will be a good player, the two teams that played on Saturday had the best midfields, as we did when we were at our zenith. I'm not convinced you need more than one B+ grade tall at either end to win a flag, and you certainly don't need a great ruck based on recent history (obviously I rate Gawn as a champion but it's nothing but battlers for 10 years prior, including Nank). Better going the next Clayton Oliver/Christian Petracca than someone who turns out to be the next Aliir......
I'm not sure that midfielders are our biggest need and I'm not sure one we take this year will have as immediate an impact as everyone seems to think. As it is we've got Graham Ross RCD Dow & Martyn who are, outside Graham, in line for game time. If we can get them up to speed in the next 12-24 months we could solve our midfield woes.

On the flip side our KPP depth come the end of trade period is likely to be

Backs: Tarrant Balta Miller Nyoun
Rucks: Nankervis Soldo Ryan Colina
KPF: Jack Lynch

Unless we can somehow trade in another ready made option or 2, it might be in our best interest to try and take the best available KPPs through the draft. Get Gibcus Van Rooyen Williams & Bazzo and our KPP stocks improve instantly and give us a couple of years to develop them while we still have Tarrant Jack and Lynch running around.

tigs2010 I regret to inform you that Lipinski has officially requested a trade to Collingwood. Sorry Champ.

CCJ staying would solve alot of potential key position problems .... until he's signed of and broadcasted it i'm not giving up on him staying as stupid as that might be!!

It is odd that there is no official statement but there is player and coach confirmation.

I wouldn't be surprised if the club is working hard to retain him.
