Not sure that's correct.

I thought that only applied to clubs who acquire a free agent. Dusty sometimes gets caught up in that category as he was a free agent, but a club re-signing their own player aren't bound by free agency rules.

I could be completely wrong though.

I’m pretty sure you can re-negotiate but the amount stays the same, but can flatten it out over multiple years.

As an example, both Riewoldt and Cotchin re-negotiated their deals in 2018 I believe. They essentially added another year (from 2 to 3) and a bit more $$, but ended up being less per season.

It enabled us to extend the likes of Lambert et al.

I reckon Dusty will stay. Other then a brief holiday up in Sydney to escape the media (which the media then turned into him wanting to relocate), what other indication is there that he wants to leave? I see a bloke on field that has been improving week to week as he builds towards finals. He looked to be enjoying himself a lot on Sunday.

I went to Brisbane for the weekend a few weeks back. Doesn’t mean I’m moving there.

I mean really, one article in the HS used quotes Ralph Carr made back in 2013 ( the infamous GWS Facilities tour) to try and suggest Dusty was thinking about moving now.

What a beat up
It’s not a beat up.
There’s genuine feelings he’s a big chance to go.

The easiest way dusty would get to Sydney if he s prepared to shred his 1.3 contract and play for ~500 pa . I highly doubt that would happen . For us to pay a slab of his contract we would have to be given a pair of aces in the draft , they gonna do that for a 32yo ,,,,yes if 27 , not a player with arguably 2y left . This is a dart throwing exercise

I guess it depends on how the clubs view Dusty. Yes, he will be 32 but if for example Sydney wanted to stick Dusty and Franklin together in their forward line for a year or two it might make sense for them to make it happen. Keep in mind Sydney do have 2 firsts this year.

I suspect we would get a more favourable deal with GWS though.

Narrative on Dusty changes per month (heartbroken, disinterested, fresh start), take your pick.

While the media is a pack of flogs for milking this, it just shows how big Richmond is in the landscape (we are rent free in everyone's head). One article about Richmond is worth way more $$$ than articles about other clubs.

Anyways, I'm sure we would get a good deal if Dusty moved.* First rounder + something else for sure. That's pretty good going forward for Richmond.

*I also don't want Dustin to change clubs. But I love that Richmond respects their players choices.

I dont get the Dusty must get paid $1.3 idea

if he wants to leave for another city then he needs to accept the club he is going to wont be able to pay what he is on and the contract gets renegotiated. Simple

Which is why it probably can’t happen … name me the last player to take a pay cut in order to move clubs? Not sure if it’s ever happened..?? So Dusty would insist on receiving his $1.3m / year or close enough to it. Then what Richmond receives in a trade will vary based on what we’d be willing to pay.

Pay $500k of the $1.3m over 2-years we’d get a top-10 pick. Pay $300k we’d get pick 15 and so on…. pay nothing it won’t happen as $1.3m can’t fit into the Sydney or GWS cap. Mind you … Tiger supporters would march in the streets if we traded Dusty and paid a huge chunk of his wage to play for someone else…. unless we got a ridiculously good trade deal heavily in our favour.

Sydney or GWS could offer $3.6m over 4 years to smooth it out …but that’s a huge risk for a 32yo who just did a hammy.

I'm assuming that's the pick we'd have to include in the trade to get rid of him? No one in their right mind would pay that.

I would too, though I'm not sure how happy I'd be with the punishment we'd get for blowing our salary cap out of the water
You reckon? Caddy is gone, Edwards and Lambert will be gone. If Jack and Cotchin do play on it'll be for a lot less. That's probably 2 mill free'd up there.

If Dusty goes he goes. He owes us supporters nothing. We will get some form (hopefully adequate) of compo for such a move.
I don't think he will go though.
It's so important we keep refreshing/rebuilding through the draft. Don't give up any first or second rounders 2022- 25. If we do they would want to be worth it(longevity as best 22). Our recruiting team combined with development coaching has been sublime last 5+ years. Why not back them in again?

I don’t imagine gws would have the cache that stirs Dusty’s interest , the possibility is if swans see 4y in him then that skinny’s the annual term

I’d rather eat horses shit on toast than lose dusty however if we were rewarded with a pair of aces in the draft , id indeed go shopping. With that and for example bring in Dunkley and hopper

Now it’s that Sam Manure coming out with this bullshit speculation

If you’re gonna come out and say the biggest name in the AFL is leaving Richmond and expect the public to respect you as a journalist then SHOW US THE ****EN EVIDENCE OR STFU!

I haven’t seen one bit of evidence apart from Dusty went to Sydney when he was dealing with his grieving of his Dad to see family

Lynch & Martin are taking up about 25% of the cap just between the two of them
We've resigned Balta, Bolton, Short, Vlastuin recently
We still need to sign Baker & Rioli asap
I think you'll find there's a lot less than $2m floating around

AFL rules. The contract amount and length stands, irrespective of the club he is at. They can extend the contract of course but can't reduce the dollars and length.
Incorrect , Contracts can be terminated by both parties agreeing or can be renegotiated to suit accordingly provided both parties agree

We didnt match a RFA offer , Dusty agree to a deal we put to him

I get the talk about this happening just doesn't come from nowhere but it does seem like the media are trying to push Dusty out of the Tigers.

To me Sydney don't seem that interested... & how do they get it done salary wise? ppl are kidding themselves if they think Dusty would take a pay cut to go to the Swans he already took less money to stay at the Tigers & if I'm Richmond not paying any of he's salary if he chooses to go, than we had COVID cuts where players lost even more money.

We know the Giants cap is tight no way they would be going after Martin. they have to cut a quality player at the end of the season.

Dusty to a Sydney club is unlikely because $ don't work. Unless we pay a lot of his salary. Which means we get a lot back - picks or players. Not sure why either club would do it. Throw us Hopper and a good pick and get Dusty. Similar for Sydney.

Might win them a premiership, might not.

Desperate stakes to make that trade.
