25 is the mid point of age for very good players . Hopper and Taranto are both on the wrong side of that .
Did either have as good as year as Brodie ?
Why didn’t we get Brodie ?
What did Freo cough up for Brodie ? C3D4ACD9-8087-4773-8FFB-FF51E18AE40D.jpeg

Is the player in ‘ the system ‘ who looks most capable Brodies footsteps in 2023 , the bloke who will most likely be delisted if we get Taranto and Hopper , who we used pick 20 on ??

2 first rounders 🤦‍♀️ 🤦‍♂️

Taranto is 24. Hopper is only 25.5. They are both in their absolute prime.

We didn't have the cap space for Brodie this year and although he's been good he's not a two way runner at all that Taranto and Hopper in particular are....

Taranto will be 25 before he plays another game . Born January 28 .
For comparison Prestia is 29 .

If Hopper left next year, at best Hopper will net an end of first round pick, there is no way GWS would get a pick straight after their first pick. Dude's wage will be lucky to be $650,000 on any future contract.

All these pundits stating two picks for Taranto "so that GWS net near the pick 2 they used on him" are seriously deficient upstairs. Recouping initial cost in the future to what you originally spent has just never ever been there in trading (always a couple of exceptions but generally like used cars you never get back your expense).

Im not opposed to wiping out this years draft hand, 12, 19, 30 & half paying Soldo salary for next two years to get Taranto & Hopper plus the couple of picks in 50's from GWS. Could then utilise them to get a future 3rd/4th for next year

Purely my analysis but reckon we will likely only take one pick in the draft and upgrade 2 rookies to satisfy our 3 mandatory additions/list changes
so if thats the case, if we give them 12 and RCD that makes it even yeah?

So what? That probably leaves 7 years of quality service, 5 at his peak and a few while we still have the likes of Prestia, Grimes, Dusty, Vlastuin, Nankervis, Broad etc etc.
His clearance numbers , our clubs biggest issue , are behind Cotchin and prestia . who most would admit the curtain is closing upon quickly.

Either Balta or Grimes but what's that got to do with Short?
You took out Tarrant to put in Short, that's what.

If Balta's on Cameron, who's on Hawkins? If Grimes is, who's on Stengle? Who's on Rohan? Who's on the resting Dangerfield? Who's Short on?

Latest trade I've heard is:

Pick 12 + 19 + next year's 1st + Soldo + RCD
for
Taranto + Hopper + pick coming back

That seems pretty steep price from our end if true

Would be good if we can get that down to our pick 30 this year instead of 19.

First pick of second round always attracts a lot of interest and we could possible swap that on draft night for either 2 mid 20's picks or a next years first. I'd rather keep 19 obviously and not get the extra pick back from GWS.

Yeah agreed we are one tall short with that line up, Tarrant and Balta both need to play next year, hence its not so easy to see how Short fits back into that defence.

The last season he played as a pure inside mid he averaged 5.3 clearances as a 21 year old. He's also rated elite for contested possessions so if he doesn't get the clearance he'll often feed it out to someone who will. Adding both of these guys would not only increase our clearance potential massively but it'll also mean less clean exits by opposition midfielders like Neale did the other night.

It's pretty hard to be negative about these two guys in yellow and black next season.

If we could get next years GWS 2nd to bolster our 2023 draft hand and one of their picks in the 50’s this year then happy days.

A bit too young for em though?

Rcd will def be traded he will be viewed like will brodie , r1 draftee battled for reg game time , difference is that was at Richmond who won most weeks vs GC who lost most of the time . Bookmark it , he will be on a list next year , wouldn’t surprise at all if he did well either

Agree completely.

Started to rack up 30 touches end of the year. Likely to be a half decent player for someone IMHO. But noway will he compete with Taranto or Hopper. He's now toast, if we get those 2. Especially with Sonz and Banks coming in. Ross playing well. Just doesn't fit any more.
