Can everyone who mercilessly bagged the club at draft time last year for not getting multiple inside-mids please come forward and apologise. It’s very obvious now that we were confident of getting at least one of these guys, and maybe even two 12-months ago. The level of disrespect given to our list mgt team last draft period who delivered us 3 flags was mind-numbing.

As usual .. and not surprisingly… they know better than us. Also explains getting Tarrant on a 2-year deal. A year to learn the ropes and then a medal

7 years for hopper is a fair bit. We're really banking on this crop, tarranto and hopper 7 years, rioli, short, vlas on 5 years. Not a heap of flexibility so hope it works out!

I hope we also give Hopper 7-years just to hear Cornes melt …. what he doesn’t realise is years 6 and 7 and not that much of a big deal if we win even just one flag between now and 2029. There are 18 teams (soon to be 19) …. if we can jag a flag with these 2 then it’s all worth it 10x over.

The Cats will now plan their next move, unwilling to significantly up their offer given they pay players in fairly strict bands to ensure fairness across the list.

Richmond has long believed it could secure one of the Giants midfielders given the tight salary cap that GWS is trying to rectify this year.

But to secure both Taranto and Hopper will immediately put the Tigers back in as premiership contenders if it can orchestrate trades for the pair.

It seems likely Richmond will have to hand over most of picks 12, 19, 30 and next year’s future first-rounder for the pair and potentially throw in a player like ruckman Ivan Soldo

Hopper, a former No.7 draft pick, had his 2022 season ruined by a knee injury but last year averaged 26 disposals, 98 ranking points, 12 contested possessions and 6.3 stoppages a game.

At only 25 the Tigers will believe they can get 150 exceptional games from him and keep their premiership window wide open.

Hopper is under contract but the Giants are prepared to trade him as they shed as much as $1 million of cap space to realign their salary position for future years.

I'm not worried. We might have a couple of down years in their last couple as they get older, but that gives us another opportunity to stock up on kids like we did last year.

Yeah our down years like 2021-22

Will be devastating stuff in 2028-29

Im not thrilled with 7 for Hopper but I don't think anything could dull my mood right now.

7-years is not a problem if years 6 and 7 come after another flag or two.

People thinking we will overpay for Hopper because he's contracted need to realise that we still have the power to walk away and come back this time next year and get him for free. With such a tight cap, GWS won't be keen to pay a player decent coin who is going to leave in twelve months anyway.
