You know I think players might be more capable of shifting than we think

Looking at the Graham thread on the trade board a Port poster was talking about interest in Short.

Maybe these players, after their salaries increase, especially after winning a premiership or two think about their careers and money to be earn't more which is understandable. So some guys we think might not leave could easily depart with appropriate incentives

Stop making rational comments, this is a place of outrageous demands for fringe players, insulting fellow posters and ludicrous trade scenarios that have absolutely zero chance of happening in reality
Only sensible post I’ve read in the last 10 pages.

To answer the question,

'I don't see the point in picking Hopper when we lose Graham",

Have a look at the stat below.

Clearance Numbers 2022
1. Prestia 112
2. Cotchin 95
3. Nankveris 92
4. Bolton 83
5. Short 58
6. Graham 38

GWS Clearance Numbers 2021
1. Hopper 145
2. Ward 104
3. Taranto 103

Taranto 128 tackles in 2021, Hopper 88 tackles, Graham 95.

So they match Graham's tackling but they actually win Clearances.

This is a game changer for us. Bye bye Jack

For the last 3 seasons Graham has attended 27%, 23% and 22% of Richmond's centre bounces.

Hopper on the other hand has averaged 75%, 73% and 52% CBAs at GWS.

Not really a like for like comparison.

Good one, that is very relevant and highlights how some stats mean little.

Like comparing Tarrant's goal tally to Tom Lynch.

No one is saying Hopper cannot play, but the way he is being pumped up by some that puts it in a whole new perspective especially when Toby goes forward, Coniglio is out for the season and not right etc...

Pies would have force a trade if DoGoey goes. Otherwise their compo gets downgraded.

I hope the Saints troll the Pies offering a megadeal with no behaviour clause, so the Pies can't match.
That would be really interesting

Basically Collingwood would match an offer they are refusing to give DeGoey
deGoey would just take it and stay

Lol the only fault with our pursuit of Taranto and Hopper is if they don’t fire early other stars not paid as much will be upset.

Even better talking about Graham as an inside mid 🤦🏻‍♂️

How do these people pass journalism class and not know how to do research?

Should have been named captain (or joint captain - eww) after Cotchin stepped down......
If he should have been captain the players would have voted him captain.
Personally I don’t want a captain who isn’t a locked best 22 player

This is where getting Hopper and Taranto together at the same time is ignorant and creates list problems. It is not all roses and it is a very blunt instrument a surgeon would not use

Just to emphasise your points….Taranto and hopper both played 24 games in 2021. Prestia played only 19 games this year.

In 2021 Richmond didn’t have a player in the top 70 in clearances in the league.
2022 -Prestia was 20th in the comp, Cotchin 43rd, Nank 53rd.

Richmond were dead last in clearances in 2021 and 14th in 2022.

It’s never been Richmonds game plan to win clearances. But the afl have created rules that have put more importance on centre bounce clearances.

The rumour that the AFL is going to scrap the sub rule and bring in a 5 man bench is also a reason why mids will be more important.

Well then the next question gets posed.

With an injured and aging profile, where Cotchin and Prestia lead all comers with clearances in a team ranked bottom 4. Why when Dustin Martin is out, Shai Bolton is moved from half forward, Jayden Short, Liam Baker moved from defence,

Why isn't 24 year old Jack Graham playing more midfield?

Because he got run down multiple times this and whilst an endurance runner, he isn't fast and agile. He can't read the ball as well. His delivery inside 50 is elite but we got Short, Prestia and Cotch for that too
