BH on Talking Tigers

Hopper and Taranto compliment each other so well because Jacob is so attacking around the ball, so contested. Tim can really transition run and offer back support. You often see Tim the first one back and the first one forward with his running. They're both top class young men and we are happy to have them.

Hitting the draft in 2021 with those guys coming in, gave us that flexibility with guys finishing up. We got some flexibility in our cap which we knew that use to get both of those boys in. You have to be flexible because things don't always go to plan.

Thrilled to keep Soldo. Coming off an ACL is hard and got a lot more to learn and the big boys take time.

On Jack Graham

I spoke to you before and know you were going to visit family but I didn't realise they all worked at Port Adelaide.

On list management

We have been fortunate enough to be in a position to go the draft while we have been contending. The salary cap and draft system does dictate that you do overspend and you do top up and you do keep trying to top up and then fall off the cliff. We have been trying to buck that trend.

We have 2 picks in the ND and 2 or 3 picks in the Rookie Draft. Depending on what's there may take 1 or 2 picks over to the MSD.

Expected this would be our strategy , a Monty to take min 1 pick to mid season

Matty Clarke mentioned on TT that we may look to bring back one of our delisted players to train over the Summer for a rookie spot like we did with Egg.

I hope we do this with Stack.
have to tell him to not nomimate for the draft then

Given we bid on him back in 2018 I wonder if there is still any interest in Connor McFadyen who was today deilsted by Brisbane.

Welcome to RT Recruiting.

Essendon is still paying his wages as they cut him a year left on his contract.
For 6 months as that appears to be the escape route the AFL have forced to be included in all coaches contracts . If the club sacks them they only have to pay out 6 months .

Welcome to RT Recruiting.
This was a kid we clearly rated in his draft year given we bid on him and were well prepared to take him if Brisbane didn't match, hence posing the question. There is likely to be little to no interest in him given he's had 4 years and never got a game, but at the same time I'd suggest that Hartley and co would be discussing if that was because he wasn't good enough or was it because he was trying to break into a premiership contending side much like guys like RCD Dow Ross & Martyn were with us and there were circumstances that stoppes that from happening.

Sorry appears that I forgot that the only players allowed to be discussed here are those that are proven performers and that nobody who has been delisted by a club has ever managed to become a good footballer when given a second chance.

He’d be trying to break into a premiership contender here too. 0 games in 4 years is terrible.

Interest at draft time does not translate to the same interest 4 years later especially when they have played zero games in the seniors.

He was drafted, so gets 2 years
No this isn't correct. Because he was over 23 years old when drafted Essendon only had to sign him up for one year.

Essendon's announcement of the delisting says that they'd chosen not to renew his contract.

And we actually won a flag or two and still managed to get games into RCD, Dow, Ralphsmith and Ross. If he was any good he’d have at least debuted

Understand that he'd be trying to break into a premiership contender here, but like I said earlier could there have been circumstances that hindered his ability to break into the side and I'd say doing a knee in the middle of 2020, which effectively wiped out 2021 as well may well have contributed to him not being able to at least play 1 game in his 4 years. Hence the suggestion as to whether there would still be any interest in him from our side. As I conceded there is likely to be little to no interest, but it would be naive to think that there wouldn't have been at least a brief discussion about him. Even though we're in a situation where the list is pretty solid across the board, it doesn't mean we wouldn't have a look at delisted players, especially ones that we'd previously had a lot of interest in

You know how most players drafted don't make it? The strike rate is even lower for players delisted after zero games in four years. The verdict's in.

Exclusive:Transcript of Blair and Clarke's brief discussion about Connor McFadyen:

Blair: See that spud McFadyen got delisted.
Clarke: Thank god we dodged that bullet. What's for lunch?
