Not too worried about Ruck depth to be honest

Nank & Ryan will be fine and Nank is durable , 2-3 years we will see what mate has to offer
and We can just take our father son Ruckman in this years draft with pick #84
Don’t forget about Benny Miller…will rip 2023 apart

Time for Ryan to step up, he has been there 3yrs
He's been there one year and 10 months.

Imagine the Melts if trading out Soldos contract gave us the room in the cap to take on Bowes contract and we finish the trade period with Taranto, Hopper and pick 7 with which we select the best KPF in the draft lol
The best KPF (Cadman) will go before pick 7.

We should get pick 7, trade it to GWS for our 12 and 19 back, then draft Jefferson (2nd-best KPF) and Keeler (best forward-ruck).

That would break everyone and everything.

Nah, I think he's firmly in project status only. If list managers have a minimum ruck number in mind, I doubt they'd be including him in that number.

My feeling is that if we trade Soldo we'll try to top up with a mature ruck from somewhere.

This is where the mid-season draft is a
Godsend. See if Ryan is ready or Nank gets injured … then if needed draft in a mature age ruck from anywhere in the country.

We will need a backup though, can't go through a whole season and expect to contend if our only rucks are Nank, Ryan, with help from Miller.

Surely someone available around the league or state leagues.

And no I'm not even remotely including Colina in my thinking.

But is Soldo someone I'd be willing to trade? You bet, for a gun midfielder, absolutely.
If we get 41 off gws.
41 for Byrant(ess).

I'm glad fans don't run RFC.

When you get a player to publicly commit to your club - YOU GET IT DONE.

Fans are obsessed about "winning" trades. As if Richmond give a * about what Twitter and BigFooty think.

You get the deals done and players will continue to want to come to the club - who cares if people think we paid overs when we have Taranto and Hopper running the midfield with Prestia.
Exactly correct

Jacob Hopper is a beast of a mid and proven he can get the ball 25+ times every game and exactly what we need
Pick #31 which will drift out to pick #35 is a nothing pick and not worth losing a player thats committed to come to our club for 7+ years

We will take Taranto & Hopper and 2 kids late that fill a need , If Soldo is traded we will take a young developing Ruck and a KPF late
Lemmy & Knobel please

Thinking about Soldo's worth a bit more …

I was trying to think of trades that would be the equivalent of us giving him up. The Preuss trade was actually the best comparison I could find, and funnily enough the Giants traded pick 31 for him in 2020.

Both players tall, physical tap ruckmen who aren't overly agile. Both stuck behind clear number one rucks (Gawn/Nank). Both contracted for another two years when GWS wanted them. Their stats are remarkably similar also.

So based on that you'd assume GWS would value Soldo around pick 31, and we know they value Hopper slightly more than pick 31 and our future first, so I think a deal something like this will get done:

GWS get: Soldo, Richmond Future First, Pick 31
Richmond get: Hopper, Pick 43
Pick #43 will go to melbourne for the small foward Toby Bedford

Just realised we traded 38,40, ~51 (2022) for 27 last year even though we already had 28 & 29. Lol we had so many picks last year we were giving them away and now we basically have nothing this year. Not sure why we gave ~51 in hindsight.

Also we probably should have got van rooyen at 17 looks a good key forward we need in the future.

Did Geelong overpay for Jeremy Cameron? No.

Did Eagles overpay for Tim Kelly? Yes.

…but we only know this in hindsight.

Both thought they were on the cusp of a flag. Hindsight tells you Geelong’s trade was a great decision, and Eagles trade was horrendous and set the Eagles back a couple of years.

If the Cats got nervous from the Kelly failure they might have dodged Cameron and may not have a flag.

So of course it’s a balance, but Geelong’s youth 2-years ago when they got Cameron looked horrific. So they didn’t have an eye on their future at all … they were all-in for a flag. Since then Holmes, Stengle and DeKoning have all emerged as excellent youngsters… and they got a flag!

Meanwhile, some teams like Gold Coast, Roos
and Carlton have been hammering away at the draft for a decade and are still no good.

So as I’ve said many times, just like the club you have to put your stake in the ground now! Do you want TT and Hopper for 12, 19, 30 and a F1 with Soldo and a F3 coming back, or don’t you? You can’t sit on the fence now and say “I told you so” in 2026.

Do you think it’s a good deal or not ? Yes or no.

Great post

The Benefit of getting Taranto & Hopper goes way beyond what we do in 2023
These 2 boys make us a real premiership contender for the next 5 years which in turn has an influence in keeping our younger talent from leaving and going to another club to win a flag. We dont want to be in a position where we end up like Norf and spend decade in rebuild mode

We are in the Now and need to go for a flag and remain top 4

Did WCE overpay? I understand Kelly hasn’t been what they were expecting but probably close to their best mid since the trade.

Vs what they actually gave away. Cooper Stevens, Jeremy sharpe/Connor stone, Ryan angwin, Ronin O’Connor. Depending how you look at where the picks ended up.

I’d rather Tim Kelly personally.
