What pisses me off a bit is how other clubs hold us and make us pay, while we seem to let players go for unders.

Yeah but we will always have more pull on the big swinging dick free agents like King and Lynch types. The only competition is Geelong.

I disagree, if we rate the player we tend to get value for them, CCJ for pick 19. If we don't rate the player as highly then we do let them go (Butler & Higgins to saints) but I don't believe it hurts us, if anything other clubs are more willing to deal with us because we aren't wasting their time. (like Essendon).

We play a long game, if we are good to deal with, then when a bigger name player wants to come to us, its more likely the deal gets done. We didnt pay overs for Taranto, I think it was a deal that worked for both clubs. I'm just hoping we get Hopper as well, which hearing from both parties I reckon a deal will happen.

Getting King is a no brainer IMO, just hope we have plenty of cap space available when the time comes because the bigger offer will win. End of 2024 we should have our 1st rounder back and will most likely have to throw in our 2025 1st round as well.

It will mean that we wont be using a 1st round pick for 2022, 2023, 2024 & 2025, if we can get Hopper too, but I think our list is perfectly balanced even when some of our champs retire.

People need to chill. Most likely the trade will go through and if will look something like

Richmond: Hopper + 2023 third rounder
GWS: Soldo + 2023 First rounder + pick 30

We may squeeze a second rounder instead of a third or we may end up with one of the later picks GWS are getting for Hill, Brahun etc.

People melting that we are missing out on 2 Drafts need to remember that our 2021 draft was essentially 2 Drafts worth of top 40 talent.

It's definitely for the benefit of the media.

There is no need for such a long trade period where nothing happens and can be sorted out in 3 days.

It's designed to keep the AFL in the media and milk ever dollar from sponsorship / advertising.

The last thing this expanded format is for is the fans.

it's like planning for a major sporting event - if pushed, you absolutely could do it in 1/10th the time, but you cut a lot of corners and have to have everything fall into place for you. Players are off on overseas trips, many deals rely on other transactions going through, you need to get players to do medicals, sometimes delay tactics are part of the negotiation to force clubs to weaken their stance, players must agree to the deals unlike US sports... this is up-ending players' lives in many cases.

Soccer has transfer windows which last a month or more, US sports allow trading for most of the season. I doubt more than a handful of Football Dept staff are getting a decent night's sleep throughout the entire trade period, unless they are one of the very few clubs who have stated they are going straight to the draft.

You don't need to consume every second of media the respective outlets push out!

Just realised we traded 38,40, ~51 (2022) for 27 last year even though we already had 28 & 29. Lol we had so many picks last year we were giving them away and now we basically have nothing this year. Not sure why we gave ~51 in hindsight.

Also we probably should have got van rooyen at 17 looks a good key forward we need in the future.

Don’t forget the new broadcast deal begins in 2025 and presumably the salary cap will be increased quite a bit
