I'm glad the deal with Taranto went through, but I'd love to know if we tried to give GWS 1st rounder next year and pick 19? Would have allowed us to offer 12 this year and 31 for Hopper.

From what I've heard this morning from GWS 1st rounder next year and 31 isn't quite good enough. Maybe GWS know with Taranto we will finish top 4 (pick 15 and above) LOL
Yeah interesting. If only GWS had accepted 12 and 31 for Taranto (which many believe was fair for an uncontracted player) then they could have pick 19 & 2023 1st (which also seems fair) for Hopper and it would all be over and done.

They'll probably end up trading their future first and just going into deficit next year.
Brisbane will have 15-34-35-45-71 this year, 15-34-53-71 next year. I would assume Dunkley will cost 15 + 15

A bid on Ashcroft at pick 1 will cost 2400 pts, the combined value of the remaining picks this year is 1440 pts leading to a deficit of 960 pts.

The combined value of their remaining picks next year is 804 pts which still leaves a deficit of 156 pts.

I can't find any details in the rules about deficits being carried over for more than 1 year (surplus pts can be carried over to offset future deficits) My understanding would be that if a club can't afford to bid then the AFL wouldn't allow it. (something like how we got Cumberland and Martyn from their academy)

The above also hasn't factored in a likely bid for Fletcher at 18 which would see them go further into deficit to the tune of 800 more pts.

The only way I can see them being able to do the deals is to trade out a player/s for pick 18 or better.

Brisbane got stitched up with their plans of first round compo.

They're in strife to get all their deals done.

Dunkley, Ashcroft, Fletcher.

I mean if they thought they were getting a first for McStay then I have no words

30 and Soldo is paying overs.

Picks 12,19,30 and next year's first rounder should've been enough.

If nank goes down who do we have to take his spot

30 and soldo is overs for Hopper? Comeon...

Hopper is a ****ing unit when he's up and running, absolute wrecking ball. Lots of people in here severely under estimating him

Yes. Taranto was off contract. GWS salary cap is a mess. They literally can't afford him.

Especially not anything close to the contract offered. He was a must trade for GWS. They would've talked themselves into a half eaten bag of chips for him given cap space. He wasn't playing for GWS in 2023 no matter what happened.

Giving up maximum value was dumb. The problem with being so nice to GWS now is they get to dig their heels in on the contracted Hopper who's already on their books for next year. I guarantee playing nice is not coming back our way on this deal.

The time to dig the heels in on the trade return from our end was on Taranto and they blew it.
LoL.
You do it every year.

Probably. We’d need a back up to Nank

If GWS want Soldo (and all murmurings indicate they do) then theyre clearly not confident in Preuss, Flynn and Briggs. I've never rated Preuss myself, yeah he gives good SC points but reckon hes a bit of a potato. I liked the looks of Flynn in the ruck and Briggs is a good size but havent seen enough of him.

TL;DR Ill take one of Flynn or Briggs, no thanks to Preuss

People need to chill. Most likely the trade will go through and if will look something like

Richmond: Hopper + 2023 third rounder
GWS: Soldo + 2023 First rounder + pick 30

We may squeeze a second rounder instead of a third or we may end up with one of the later picks GWS are getting for Hill, Brahun etc.

People melting that we are missing out on 2 Drafts need to remember that our 2021 draft was essentially 2 Drafts worth of top 40 talent.

Nah, the true art of the deal is everyone walks away with a win. Tarranto is Prestia good. He addresses an urgent need. Pick 12 isn't a guaranteed anything, much like 19. We'll see how you feel about this come R12 next year.
Taranto could have 36 brownlow votes by then he'd still think we overpaid.

How many picks do GWS want, jeez.

Can understand GWS thinking future 1st and 30 isn’t enough, they’re projecting we’ll be a top 4 team. That means something like 16 and 30 for Hopper, which I think would favour us heavily.

But then again, if the seasons a disaster (like Collingwood last year) they would get extreme overs.

If a quality player wants to come to your club
You do what it takes to get the deal done
I doubt the cats a crying that they gave 2 firsts for Jeremy Cameron

Oh wow they are ****ed.

They need to trade for Gunston too.

We should just walk away.

Overpaid for Taranto. No need to do it again

Pick 31 and a future 1st is already overs.
I listent to the Jason Macartney interview and i didnt get that from what he said

To me it sounded like he said Richmond have been great to deal with and needed to get Taranto out of the way first to get other deals done and Richmond agreed and are happy to wait to get the deal done later

mentioned Soldo is in play and sounded positove about the deal but needed to be conservative with what he said
To me it sounded like F1+Soldo or F1+31 will get the deal done

Thats what I got/ heard from it, SENs report makes it sound like we are begging for it with poverty picks. POS

Anyone that thinks that it was Graham that pulled out is delusionary

Port pulled out as soon as they realised JHF was an option .

Graham got shafted
Graham probably pulled out when they put the contract in front of him and it wasn’t big enough.
Perhaps Port reduced the contract offer when they thought they had other options available too.
