Why would he agree to that
Why not? He goes to a good team that’s well-run and gets the money he’s owed, and if he proves himself there is definitely a spot in the best 22 available to him over the next few years when players start retiring. It’s a good career move and keeps him employed for at least 4 years.

Bowes new nickname has just gotta be "Lucky".

He is losing money lol.

Playing 2 years for free

keep 30
best we do our best work around there lets take the next shane bolton
Jeez you blokes never seem to learn - there's no "n" in his name.

It's Bolto

Absolutely stinks of corruption Geelong allowed to get a high draft pick after winning the flag and taking on a contract from gc if this was Richmond doing this imagine the media uproar about it gc should be penalised if they can’t keep their cap under control
Geelong is the best club he can land at. Takes up any form of gun free agent money they might've had until 2025, lobs them with another serious list-clogger, and anyone they get at Pick #7 won't necessarily be a starting 1st XXII next year if they happen to be still in the window.

The next 2-3 years will see them lose a dozen or so of their top line players - Selwood, Danger, Hawkins, Tuohy, Smith, Cameron, Stanley, Bews, CGuthrie, Duncan, Rohan, Menegola plus Higgins and Dahlhaus. By the time Pick 7 matures at Geelong, the window is shut - their bottom half of the senior team, despite what the media tell you after their flag, is not great.

I'd probably rather Pick 7 2022 go to a team not seriously contending 2025-2028.

But he's for all intents and purposes giving away half a million bucks?
Maybe he feels it’s worth it? Especially to play for a team who, whether we as Richmond supporters like it or not, will be playing finals over the next 4 years at the very least?

Richmond offer 2 guys 7 year contracts at around 750k a year and the system is broken, top teams shouldnt be allowed to trade for players from other struggling teams.

Cats pay $850k for 2 years to a guy who cant even make it into a struggling teams 1st side and get pick 7 as a cherry and its all ok. I say well played cats but STFU to the media pushing one sided narratives because you have beef with a particular side.
shocking still has a foot inside afl house

He is losing money lol.

Playing 2 years for free
So like someone else said, maybe they up it a little bit and make it worth his while, enough to garner his interest but not enough to piss his future team mates off. Believe it or not, some people just want to play for a decent team that plays finals consistently.

Sadly geelong have a decent list. He may not get a game? Playing two years essentially for free iin the Magoo's - is an annoyingly nice act.

I hope it does not transpire.

Unders is only ok when they are at Richmond

I assume you do realise that his $850k for two years will be restructured over 4 years in all likelihood? It’s a good deal for the Cats😡, but we don’t yet know what they are giving upon the deal to get him. And I don’t mind him as a player, he’s got ability that they could well extract
That doesn’t make sense. Why would Bowes play an extra two years for the same money ?

There's a chance he's not best 22 for the next few years.
True, but that’s up to him. Does he want to be best 22 in a good team that plays finals consistently or is he happy just running out in the 2 for four years. His decision. Geelong have just given him the choice and opportunity.

People thinking he's spreading out the money he's owed the next two years over four at Geelong have rocks in their heads. His management would be about as negligent as you can possibly be if they convinced him to agree to that

Yep at very worst he is taking 2 million over 4
