True, but that’s up to him. Does he want to be best 22 in a good team that plays finals consistently or is he happy just running out in the 2 for four years. His decision. Geelong have just given him the choice and opportunity.

Depends what Geelongs offer is. Is it 4 years at 500? Or 600? We don't know. He's certainly not taking the 1.6m over 4 you'd think. I doubt they can pay him that 1.6m in the next 2 years though.

Is tomorrow the last day of the trade month?
O no
Still more bullshitting to put up with for a little while yet

Monday 03 October at 9.00am

  • Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period commences – Players & Selections
Friday 07 October at 5.00pm

  • Close of AFL Restricted Free Agency Offer and Unrestricted Free Agency Period.

Wednesday 12 October at 7.30pm

  • Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period closes – players and selections

Yep at very worst he is taking 2 million over 4

Even that wouldn't be enough to make him consider it. Why wouldn't he just make the 1.7 mil he's owed in the next 2 years then go from there? Playing an extra 2 years for only 300k more makes no sense. Would have to be upwards of 2.5M over 4 for him to even consider making any alteration.

tl;dr there's no scenario where Geelong gets away with not over paying him. That's the reason they were compensated with pick 7 just for taking him.

People thinking he's spreading out the money he's owed the next two years over four at Geelong have rocks in their heads. His management would be about as negligent as you can possibly be if they convinced him to agree to that
Totally correct,know a few cat employees,the way it's done is I'm owed
850,850,and get 350,350 for next 2 years which means 2400 x 4 years ,which means 600,000 for 4 years.

The best part about the Bowes deal is how the AFL media (Barrett) spoke glowingly of how smart Geelong were in not matching RFC's offer to hopper. They have rigid rules on how much they pay players and stick to them to keep everyone happy and it is part of the keys to success. Next minute they look to trade in a way overpriced Bowes.
Can imagine danger storming into sHo kings office.
I JUST WON US A FLAG AND BOWES IS GETTING MORE THAN ME.

He’s owed 1.6 million for the next 2 years
Why would he take 1.6 million for 4 years

They’ll likely have to structure it to be 2 million over 4 and spread it out to fit him in
It’s still 500k a year for 4

It’s a huge risk

It was a given he would chose Geelong since teams would be allowed to spread it over 4 years. Why would you pick Norf or Hawks over Geelong?

There only chance to get him and pick 7 would’ve been to just taken on 825k fork the next 2 years. Surely Norf has a shit ton of cap room?

Hawkins must be filthy getting paid unders his whole career and then watches some young guy who cant even make it into the Suns 22 come and earn 850K a year LOL
Their Dynasty will run shorter than Carltons this year.

You can if all parties agree
I don’t think you can break the afl player contract why was everyone saying they have to take on the 800000 salary per year you can’t change a players contract in the middle of it if that was the case every team would be doing it just saying for example hey dusty you ain’t worth 1.4 mill this next 2 years can we pay you the 2.8 over 4 years it can’t be done

Have to assume they rate him and spread his money across 3-4 years otherwise it makes no sense.
Why would you accept a deal that's take you twice as long too get the same amount of money in 2.
What am I missing?

It can be done if the player agrees.
Players have renegotiated mid contract previously.
Geelong have to take on the value of the contract, but they can spread it over a longer duration if the player agrees.
