You’re not getting a top 10 pick for Dusty regardless of how much salary we would have to eat. No way I’d be paying for any player to play for another club.

There'd be clubs that would seriously entertain the idea of offloading a 1st round draft pick just for the million dollar salary cap, no doubt about it. If an ultimately unsuccessful team like Port, St Kilda or Melbourne knew that adding a gun player for free to their list might bridge the gap between them and, say, a premier like Collingwood, I reckon they'd contemplate handing over their 1st rounder (which will probably be in the mid/late teens).

Not saying that I'd want to do it, but Dusty + $1M salary relief could probably bump it into Top 10 for a club like Essendon or the Suns if they finish 9th or 10th this year. If Essendon seriously thought they were in the window next year, who'd be more likely to win them the flag next year, Dusty or Tsatas? Not everything's about 5 years down the track.

He is, but I don’t think he’ll become the level of Nick Daicos or Richo. Some teams play this game at an easier level with so many star father/son players. Seems like we’re just not one of them. Even our NGA academy doesn’t produce much top talent (if at all).
