Hello Tiger fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Why the fk wouldn’t we take a ruckman with our first pick?

2-3 years to develop before Nank is cooked.

The chance of those category B rookies getting a game let alone making the cut at AFL level is about 2%
Im not totally against it, but the wisdom seems to be you can trade for a mid range ruckman who's ready to go pretty easily.

I think the club sees Ryan as our future or we wouldnt have traded out soldo.

We should have traded in a key forward a few years ago when we had that really strong draft hand. That's my biggest target but this year might not be a good year.

The Cat B's will eat up most of the VFL minutes if they are fit, so too will Naismith. Hypothetically Nank and Ryan are in the AFL, then Hayes-Brown, Miller, Naismith and even Colina take up the VFL minutes, its even more crowded if Ryan plays VFL. We have gone from Maric and Hampson to Nank, Soldo and Ryan, all of them are either cheap trade pick ups or late picks we have developed, the exception is CCJ who was picked up with a late first/early second.

This is why we won't draft another ruckman just yet.

It is odd. Crows tried the same with their catB ley defender James Borlase and they were denied. Now they have to delsit him and hope he last till their pick in the rookie draft.

Should do a Norf and pinch him as a DFA like they did with Greenwood.

Keeping Mate Colina on the list is odd, with so many injuries they must think he has ability to keep him.

Not sure why they are persisting with Colina.

Don’t mind the Naismith pick up.
He’s break glass in case of emergency.

Nank and Sampson play first up, and Naismith only gets a run if both of these are unavailable.

Colina has been "on the list" for 3 years.

However, he has only been at the club for about 15 months. The first year and a bit were spent fulfilling basketball scholarship commitments in Hawaii.

The first couple of months of the 15 months he has been at Richmond was the second half of the 2022 VFL season, where he showed up and played with zero football preparation. And he performed like you would expect of a guy who hadn't played the sport since young junior years and had no preparation. So you are not sacking him based on that otherwise you wouldn't have recruited him in the first place.

Then his whole pre-season and season proper in 2023 was destroyed by a back injury, so he had no chance to do anything. Again, so long as you are on advice his back injury is fixable, you are not sacking him based on that or it was no use recruiting him in the first place.

He is uniquely tall, and is just big, and can really run. Not so much of a leap from what I have seen. He has attributes that could amount to anything or nothing. Colina would have been brought to the club with no expectation of any serious AFL exposure before 2025 at the earliest anyway. What is to lose by giving him the chance to see what he can do off a decent preparation? He is not taking up a list spot, and would be costing us next to nothing out of the salary cap.

I am glad the club has stuck the course to see what Colina can do. He definitely showed tiny glimpses of promise in the VFL when we saw him. He is the tallest man alive. Richmond deals in extremes. Perfect fit.

As for the AFL, they were bound to allow his extension as a Cat B Rookie. If they want conversions from other sports, this needs to be allowed in a case like this where he was signed prior to being free of previous commitments and then didn't get any sort of a run at it when he was able to commit.

So, structurally:
Kozi replaces Riewoldt,
Naismith replaces Soldo - either of whom should only ever play as first ruck when Nank unavailable,
New Cat B basketballer replaces Biggie - either of whom would realistically only get a game as a ruck if every other player over 195cm was injured. Biggie was never going past Young, Balta, Gibcus as a backman and never looked convincing forward.

Biggest need for me is still a reasonably talented KPF (King or Cadman?) and balanced midfielders

King, Cadman, mcluggage should be our targets

He has shown a falr bit, but by the end of the year he was getting beat up by VFL ruckman who worked out if you get physical and work his body he struggles. Yes he will get stronger, but AFL ruckman are and probably will always be much stronger.

He doesn't jump in the ruck but prefers to use his body, which he is pretty good at because he is pretty aggressive and has good ruck craft. My feeling is he might never be strong enough. He'll be 23 in a month, so not a kid. If he develops a bit of a spring and a lot more core strength then he has a good chance to make. Yes he better than 50-50, but how much we won't know until this year.
A little like both PRyder and Otto perhaps...more forward and centre bounce ruck..allowing him room to leap?!?
