Hello Tiger fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

tugga you may like to sticky or merge this post, move it to the start of the thread (so the sticky post doesn't rotate if a post is deleted before it), or copy it to your draft thread.

Moving on from the likes of Pickett, Macca, Hugo, Mansell, MRJ, Colina… with Prestia/Grimes retiring is not slashing and burning. It’s done to bring in fresh young talent, whereby of the 8-9 you bring in hopefully a few turn out excellent players.

None of the above have any chance of being outstanding in the future. Not one of them. IMO none have any chance of being better than average in the future.

Slash and burn would be to trade out the likes of Vlastuin, Baker, Dusty etc… and I’m not suggesting we move on anyone capable of elite football, regardless of age.

I’m generally a cull the list guy too but whilst Dusty and Lynch are around I don’t think we should roll over and give up just yet.

4-5 list changes would be plenty imo (I’m assuming we’ll be trading up in the draft) and tbh I don’t think any of them should be kids. Which I why I just mentioned Grimes, Prestia, Pickett, Macca and as another guy suggested Broad.

Do you think some of our kids are really that bad? Sure they are rough around the edges but they all have strengths that we have time to bring out.

Look at Balta, he’s 24-25 and finally seems to be starting to reach his potential.

Were you asleep in 2017?…. contract talks were going at a million miles an hour in 2017. Balmey flew to NZ to chat to his old man. Martin and Carr were definitely in extensive contract talks with Richmond in 2017… and Norf.

I don’t believe Carr is in contract talks with Richmond as he was in 2017, and I don’t believe Martin has a contract in front of him as he did in 2017.

Logically … why would a 33yo put contract talks on hold until the end of the season if his intention was to stay? Doesn’t make sense to me.

This doesn’t mean in 2024 Richmond don’t show great signs of a resurgence and doesn’t mean Martin won’t fall in love with Yze and stay … I just believe it’s highly unlikely he stays. I hope I’m wrong …. just an opinion.

1, No not asleep
2.Contract talks are always happening and if you thing its any different now then you are a fool
3. You dont believe ? lol thats just your opinion do you really believe Carr has just said nah lets look at it after seasons finished
4. why he puts contract talks on hold ? Maybe he is thinking of retiring? or wants to prove he still has it and wants to get the best deal
5. your last point - Classic sitting on the fence and having a bob each way

Hope i answered all your questions and feel free to sleep on it

Let me guess GC or FlagPies .............and campaigner will play for 3 years straight without one F#$@!$#$@^ soft tissue injury.

Hes completely cooked even when not injured so it wont matter. He really should just retire, but if he can get some cash out of another club good on him. We definetly should not offer another contract though.

Ok , I misunderstood and agree we need to move on from those , preferably over the next fortnight , I’d like to see sooner than later an additional 4 plus younger players in the starting line up

Saying I think he will leave but I hope he doesn’t is not sitting on the fence. I’ve got no idea what decision he will make, but I’m allowed to have an opinion he will leave. (I also had the opinion Hardwick was talking in early 2023 like he wasn’t remaining long-term and got howled down…)

When a manager comes out and says we are putting contract talks on hold until the end of the season, then more often than not I don’t believe contract talks would continue on.

But in 2017 there was never any suggestion Martin was putting contract talks on hold .. he was simply making a decision between Richmond or North’s contract offers and was torn between remaining at Richmond or an extra $2m and he didn’t choose the extra money.

This decision end of 2024 won’t be about money.

Anyway… we will see what happens. But regardless I do hope he stays.

I fear that Vlas is 1 or 2 concussions away from being Bradshawed
In today’s climate it’s probably the same for every player
Can’t really worry about it either

Unfortunately Balta is now going to be past his peak when we next are remotely close to contending. Him and Bolton will need to be traded for picks if we are any chance of rebuilding properly. Rioli, Bolton, Balta, Baker have real trade currency. I would happily eat shit for 5 years to contend again than sit in no-mans land. We could front end our rebuild or delay the inevitable. With Gibcus going down, we are seriously short young KPP talls now, as he will most likely have a lower ceiling now.

Unlike a Hawks or North rebuild we will have currency at the trade table. Rip off the band-aid now.

Stupid idea , it’s a road to premiership mountain no one gets parachuted there , norfs attempt culling and using low pics has been diabolical and req afl intervention before sliding into an abyss

we would have to give to much, wouldn't we??
We might final get some early, early picks and give them to dogs.
I hope we don't. we need the early picks first then a Ugle.
Just my thoughts.

Probably an early first and second I’d think.

Worth it idk? I like the idea of trading in players in their early 20s so we don’t waste Bolton and Co in the rebuild by developing 18 years olds.

Trade in good young kids is what I would do unless we can get a great deal in the draft. So we can contend within 5 years with the current group.

Gonna keep an eye on all these 1st round mids at North and all the surplus GWS and GC kids. Need to hit the draft but also jag a couple of kids who've had 3-4 years development and are primed and don't wanna play for a minnow club. Port nailed it by drafting Butters & Rozee in one draft and Poaching Horne Francis. Effectively sorted their midfield for 15 years relatively easily.

With an aging Finlayson and Dixon they've got Marshall ready at perfect age and Georgiades and Lord coming through. I'd rather pump games into kids and finish bottom 3 than 9th-12th. Death riding Freo off to a shocking start 😳

See how the season unfolds and then make an informed decision about whether Richmond & Yze are where he wants to remain or even as I suggested yesterday, opt to retire with nothing left to prove.

If he does decide to move to another club then good luck to him and thanks for everything that he scored in his time at Richmond.

I suspect your half right that he wishes to see where the clubs prospects are at before committing, I don’t believe for a minute he would retire from what we’ve seen thus far , prob read same for baker too

Maybe it's just me but I reckon dusty can kick on well into his 30s as a third tall forward. Hard match up for a defence
Leigh Mathews was a rover and only about 175cms but he was almost unstoppable if he got the ball inside 30m from goal. Dusty could play that role (unique 3rd tall isolated on the goal square at times) for another three or four years I think. He'd only do it if he thought we were in the window however I believe.

If Dusty does go, he'll go to Sydney.

Everyone thinks he'll go to GC but Sydney would take him on a 3y deal in a heartbeat. $800Kpa. Small ground. Low profile. 50 goals a year. Flag. Boom.
