Hello Tiger fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

tugga you may like to sticky or merge this post, move it to the start of the thread (so the sticky post doesn't rotate if a post is deleted before it), or copy it to your draft thread.

St Kilda apparently going after Hugo Ralphsmith
Best news..
Watching Hugo play VFL on Sunday was embarrassing for how soft he is.
Doesn’t go in at all, marking or ground ball

Will only ever be a running flanker that butchers it

Any draft pick in return for Hugo is a bonus

Was probably our best player by quarter time, he's been ravaged by injury, played a handful of games. Look at Jack Ross.

Did you rate Ross or like many, piss all over him?

Well firstly, not sure our best player and his stats ended up being modest.

As I said I’ll rewatch the vision.

On Ross, no I didn’t piss all over him at all but in saying that, I’m not blowing my load over him long term either. Good player, definitely been better this season but boy, we do overrate our own sometimes.

I must have watched a different game on Saturday to most with regards to Dow.

To me, I just don’t see it. He does avoid the physical contact. His skills are below average. He doesn’t influence the game.

I’ll rewatch the replay on the last two weeks. Being at the ground may be different.
I appreciate this is only two pieces of play, so not getting carried away...

However, first, goes back with the flight (which not all players do) causes the turnover, we goal (and live all the players ran to him at the time)

Second, beautiful delivery into our forwards, something we have been terrible at all season

(Actually can't find the footage, but Dow hits Dusty on the Lead, the Dusty gives it to Cotch from memory who misses k31th do you have this?)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not getting carried away, but I think he has something to offer that we need.

Rubbish on Dow... He might not the most physical player we have, but he certainly got in and mixed it with the North mids on Saturday. Could he get a little bigger and stronger, possibly, but that doesn't mean he avoids contact.

And his disposal is improving every week, by hand he is great, by foot he needs work, but have a look in the first against North again in the weekend, a perfectly waited pass hit Dusty on the tit, was probably our best forward entry of the day... you just pissing an old narrative.

Sonsie has had a frustrating year, clearly, injury late in the pre-season seemed to derail his season, but his back end in the VFl has been great, easily ready to break out next year provided he does the work in the pre-season

Think he means paddy dow. Who someone said was likely all we are getting.

Balta top 3 in the entire league as an intercept defender - robbing Peter to pay Paul.

We've seen this movie before, he is NOT a forward.

Mini throwing him forward is an indictment on his coaching more than anything else. Our defence is under siege and no defender would cope with the amount of inside 50's under his coaching reign.

We all love Lynch but unfortunately he's very injury prone over the past 2-3 years. We need options as he's unlikely to play 22 games.

Bauer showing promise but I liken him to a Fritsch role, not a key forward.
Balta or Gibcus up fwd.
Prefer Balta.Sick of his Brain fades down back.

Yeah he died a little after half time, forgiven given how much footy and training he has missed. FWIW matty Richo thinks he was best on at 1/4 time when every one else was sloppy

IM not sure anyone is overrating Ross, but he went from wont make it to best 22 very quickly is my point. He is easily our best winger right now.

SOS is a big fan of his, talked him up on trade radio when he was in Hopper discussions and wouldn't have let him go if he was Richmond
Hugo despite his shortcomings in my opinion probably should have been playing in Pickett spot & Banks in McIntosh's spot.
think we would know more about them than what we do now.

Dow has no physical presence and avoids contact, same flaws as his brother. Disposal is also an issue, would not persevere. Sonsie is at a crossroads has potential to take the next step but will he? Need to churn through as many prospects as we can until the right mix is achieved, need to be ruthless in culling.

Understand it's not all about stats, but Dow was 3rd for contested possessions and score involvements vs Saints (only Dusty and Shai with more), had the second best disposal efficieny of our inside mids (so not counting wings or half forwards. Prestia only marginally better with 77% vs Dow's 76%, and pretty much half of Dow's disposals were kicks, so it's not a case of easy handballs that boosts this efficiency).

There's a player there, but time is starting to run out for Dow.

Balta is a genuine swingman, I don’t think you necessarily need to pencil him into any role
He’s shown he has deficiencies forward and back but the flip side is his best can win you a game.
I reckon you’re right next year, playing Gibcus back (Balta forward) it’d be a big ask playing him in a kpf role in what effectively will be his 2nd year in the system. He’s played all his junior football back, why throw him to the wolves playing kpf at AFL level.
Once he’s found he’s feet and injury concerns are behind him, then like Balta he’ll be capable of pinch hitting forward

Lynch, Georgiades and Bauer would be a nice tall forward mix next year. Lynch out of the goal square with Georgiades and Bauer getting up the ground and sitting on people's heads.
Read somewhere George is keen to stay at Port.

I have kept a close eye on him and he often comes good once he gets a solid block of games, the problem, he gets injured almost every time he's found form and seems to be slow to recapture form again. I reckon that has alot to do with his tank. He's young and never gets a really good run at it to build that base fitness IMO.

Do you move Moore into the forward line because he gets exposed when asked to play on a man rather than playing loose?

The situation with Balta is very simple, you play him as the loose rather than asking him to play on the best key forward where you expect more 1v1 duels.

Apart from 1 or 2 opponents, Rance doesn't always take the number 1 key forward of the opposition, but would find a lesser opponent to then peel off and intercept. Hell, I remember one game where we chose to have Garthwaite play on Hawkins rather than Rance.

At the moment, we have Balta play on pretty much the opposition's best key forward, yet he still leads the league for intercepts. Rance was doing it without playing on the best key forwards.

Did he get glandular fever or something at the same time as the covid period?

I remember he had an injury interrupted start to his career, which has probably affected his ability to develop a tank in the early parts of his career.

Dion Prestia makes more sense for the Brisbane Lions than Gold Coast. Ashcroft has an ACL injury, Devon Robertson will go back to WA, Lyons is struggling for form, Zorko is near the end and they are right in the premiership window. Prestia is still a top 5-8 player for us and despite knocks on his injury history has played 20 games this year, probably 21 unless he is rested for Port Adelaide. Brisbanes first after father sons and academy selections will be probably in the early to mid 20's range and about right trade value wise.

As Leigh Mathews says.
Too win a game you need too kick more points than the opposition.

Balta up fwd would need the opposition to have at least #2 defender on either Lynch or Balta.

If Prestia wants out that's well worth us exploring and potentially a very winnable trade for the long term. Prestia has always been an injury risk at the best of times, and he's 31 in a couple of months and already showed some declines and slow downs, which is only going to get worse on the soft tissue risk too.

If we can turn that into a long term prospect or pick we should be all over that, providing the deal is reasonable.

It's what he does after he intercepts that's the issue.lol

Meatball is on his last legs.
Brisbane better off going after Dow or Crouch.
