If Koch was such a business genius why is our club still struggling for money? Now face the burden of a Shanghai trip once a year. Losing quality core players? Struggling to keep a happy medium with fans and club? Complete and utter spring clean from top to bottom!

Because we are in a piss-ant little town - Being a traditional club has its drawback in terms of revenue, especially in what I would say be a 70/30 split with the Crows.

The burden of Shanghai is a business decision that you can't knock (I work with people exporting wine and that has become more difficult too than the early days), there is only so much of the pie we can grow here. As RussellEbertHandball has previously mentioned corporate $ are hard to come by here too, that all makes for it being hard work.

I don't disagree with a cleanout, and think it will happen next year. I'm still of the belief that if we are successful on the field (2013-14) sponsors and members jump on.

What we need to do is get back to basics, is kens' time done (yes) will he take us to a flag (no) so I hope someone has got the next three years pegged for that transition, Ken's had his chance and we need to move forward.

So Sam Gray only played one less game this year than Dixon, Marshall and Frampton COMBINED. ******* lol.

Im scared to look up the combined games played tally for spray Ryder and broady

Is it true he was given a gentle nudge out the door? Port certainly didn't seem averse to trading him yet teams similar to Port like StK and NM were extremely keen to snap him up.

Why were Port keen to move him on?

We’re reliably informed doogs Received the saints offer well before the exit meeting where port supposedly told him to look around.

So he was headhunted.

Huge question marks around why we moved him out of defense and left him in a place where he would be keen to take up the offer.

If McKenzie plays like he did in the SANFL in the end half of the year, Dougal leaving will mean very little, problem is he probably won’t.

we have to stop pretending like Howard is some Ben brown stopping machine. Even as a defender when we played those teams with the tall forwards he often didn’t play on them. Dougal has always been a good spoiler and intercept player but I wouldn’t say he is a great defender
But he's a lot better than anyone else we've got for the role. He's not the complete player by any means but he's got some great attributes and potential to develop. Now we've got nothing in defence but the 2 undersized plodders. And Cripps implying that Watts and Westhoff are the answers as tall defenders is idiotic.

As a former KPP myself, I found CD's take to be pretty uninformed.
While I agree they severely under performed on that day, the main issue we had that day was the ease of supply from the midfield. Watch the first couple goals and how easily the Kangaroos mids walked around our witches hats and under no pressure were able to hit up leading forwards.
as a former centre half bench, I agree with your statement
As a former Left Right Out, I also concur.

What's your plan for defending against 200cm key forwards?
Is our backline really the issue in our team?

I would say it's the best line in our team.

Ben Brown had a day out but that doesn't happen too often, what does happen is our fwd line continues to get pantsed where Doogs was asked to play.

I get that Sam Gray isn't a legitimate small forward, i think you are all forgetting that he can play wing and midfield too not the best but id rather Sam Gray in the middle with the ball than Ollie Wines. And considering the crap he gets lets not forget that he was the 2nd highest goal scorer for us in 2019. Without Rozee and S. Gray we would of been far worse.
Boooooooshut up hinkley

Piss of

kidding, from what I can recall Howard hasnt got a moment where he has dominated a tall forward. For example Clurey v Hawkins, 0 goals 0 marks. Can’t remember anything like that for Dougal
Dougal has 2 flaws gets pushed of the ball and spoils to much. But I think if he can fix this up will be an a grade kpd.

Happy to give Sammy a 1 yr deal and I'm far from his biggest fan but bust his guts play's the hardest spot on the field to be consistent and stats stack up well against players in that position.
I'd rather he get no contract, but if he gets one give him 4 games, then send him over to suffer death by Snu Snu with the Chinese women's basketball team and help the club accomplish the short term goal of China engagement and long term of a Father Son that is actually going to be of KPP height.

Magpies captain?

Why isn't the CEO made accountable for this? Isn't it his job???? How KT is still employed will remain one of life's greatest mysteries.

There has to be a better more efficient way of bringing in money for the club and what they are doing at the moment is the opposite of that ive not heard this many members talk about jumping ship. The club is in a crisis bigger than what any of us know and wont know till its beyond fixing.

I understand that Shanghai is a long term business development thats core KPI's are far bigger than just the financial earnings, its a much larger resources based initiative to further develop sports based science for AFL and to start positively incorporating AFL as a sport to a global scale. But the efforts of Koch has helped AFL's reputation overseas and brought in new avenues for player development and sports based science. Clearly its been multiple years and our clubs struggling just as much if not more financially.

100% agree a successful team on field with a couple of high profile names helps bring in $$/members/sponsors but before we think that far the problems with in the club need to be addressed and fixed ie:

- Management and coaches
- Veterans game time over youth
- Wines
- Disgruntled fans and players
- 1 captain

It is an issue now that we don't have any ready to play proper KPDs taller than 193cm (Watts and Westhoff don't count, and Grundy doesn't as he's a mile off). And given the length of time it takes to develop key position players and the reluctance of our coaches to put time into developing them, the lack of any 23 and under KPDs above 193cm bar Grundy is a huge problem which will bite us in the backside.

Eric Hipwood kicked 6.1 against us in round 3. He only kicked more than 2 on three occasions including that one.
Tom Lynch kicked 6.2 against us at the start of the year when he was looking likd Richmond had bought a dud.
Jack Gunston kicks 6 against us.
Jeremy Finlayson kicks 3.3, Jeremony Cameron kick 3.2.
Tom Lynch kicks 3.4 against us the second time around. Reiwoldt kicks 3.1.

Backline is all good against tall marking forwards.

Only Gold Coast appear here more often than us.

Didn’t Howard keep Brown goalless last time they played on each other?

Pretty sure Clurey played on him that night. Howard had 3 goals kicked on him by Larkey

Howard....well I am not sure he was the answer...

He was more likely to get pantsed as much as anyone.

I mean hand on heart What 200cm towards would you trust Dougal with? Seriously?

I know people are pissed at the club rightly so I am too....but Dougal Howard.

3 goals being kicked by fowards is really not a bad result in the realms of Ben Brown bad.

Would you put Dougal on Lynch? Cameron? Reiwoldt?

The only I one I would trust Dougal on is Hipwood.

6 scoring shots, 5 scoring shots and 7 scoring shots. If they kick straight..

Would you put Dougal on Lynch? Cameron? Reiwoldt?

He doesn't need to be the guy on them, his speed and athleticism lets him impact contests with them. Something no one else in the defensive group can do.
