Chances of getting Cameron are slim to none. But in saying that there is always that small chance the unbelievable happens.. we did just trade out Doogs

The Saints will remain in that 9-12 bracket. They've probably slightly improved overall, but they've burnt a heap of draft picks for a mediocre return given the quality they've lost. Steven is their best mid and Bruce their best fwd, they won't just replace them easy.

Steven most definitely wasn’t their best mid.

You may be getting confused with Steele but even then Armitage and Ross are better than him.

Steven would be lucky to be best 22 at his age and fitness level. His one good attribute was speed and god he looked bad at the end of the year without that.

Is our backline really the issue in our team?

I would say it's the best line in our team.

Yes it is.

It’s far from sorted now.

Here’s the players 25 and under who we think are capable players back there

Burton clurey Garner
Dbj

(Houston is a mid now)

And with clurey being 25 and Dbj 24 that’s not a huge window to develop the rest of the defense around them before they’re at the end of their prime.

For instance if we magically find a chb this draft clurey will be 30 when he’s 23 (doogs age now)

If it takes us a cpl more drafts than that you pretty much assume clurey and them won’t see much time together if at all.

It’s one of the reasons I’ve been banging on about trading for petty.
Unless we really target talls now and develop them now (or hold onto the ones we have) we will piss away rozee duursma etc careers because we can’t surround them with a functioning structure.

Surprise surprise the coming drafts are tall deficient. Could that be why teams went after a kpp like doogs I wonder sarcastically.

Kaiden Brand just delisted by Hawthorn. Would we be thinking he might be the perfect stop-gap?

Delisted list fillers are the absolute last thing I want to be going after

However the only thing worse is a team with no talls. Besides the lack of depth the last thing I want for our developing players is to play guys who aren’t kpp as a chb ala we did with Toumpas

That’s not good for their development nor our team.

Had heard weve had a sniff at Brand

The saints list is all over the place. They don’t know whether they are rebuilding or contending, so they’ll do neither.

They’re gonna be slightly worse than mid-table for the future in drafts that will be horrible for mid table teams.

Rebuilding with solid mid age players surely:

King 19
Bytel 19
Langlands 19
Clark 20
Battle 21
Gresham 22
Lonie 22
McCartin 23
Wilkie 23
Parker 23
Steele 23
Dougal 23
Butler 23
Jones 24
Marshall 24
Billings 24
Dunstan 24
Sinclair 24
Hind 24
Membrey 25
Hill 26
Webster 26
Ross 26
Carlisle 28
Hannebery 28
Savage 28

19 guys 24 or under who have a lot of potential or are already really good players with some mix of age and experience with Hill, Webster, Membrey, Ross, Carlisle, Hannebery, Savage, Armitage, Geary and Ryder

I don’t rate St Kilda much at all but they’ve gone about it the right way this off season, have a decent young list as a low member/smaller club, lots of players wanting to go there and have a great coach now. We are the complete opposite in most respects.

Na, we'll agree to disagree. In a side that probably has the most vanilla midfield in the comp, none of those are better than him. He has been there most dangerous mid for years IMO. He kicked 3 goals and had 22 touches on one leg in his 3rd last game there.

They've lost 2 quality players, brought in 3 starters, and some fringe players. I dont see much of a rise. They need top end talent to fill their list which is devoid of quality.

I think your wrong about the Saints. I see them finishing between 6-10, well above us.

I see us finishing above the Suns, maybe Carlton & Crows, that's it.
Whenever the members/supporters have a complaint about the current admin or coach, we always hear how bad things were in 2011/12, well we could be revisiting that period again. What a waste the last 7 years has been!

David Armitage hasn't been a thing for almost 4 years now.. I would replace him with Dunstan in that mid trio.

Take this year out of it as he has had a lot of issues. But he was definitely their best midfielder over the last 4-5 years.
