Buzza would be the perfect pickup for DFA

Frampton replacement. Would expect to play SANFL all year but if he goes well it's only a matter of time before Charlie or marshall have a form slump or injury and he can have a shot.

We need KPF depth right now. Atm we have Hayes being our only tall ruck or forward in the 2nds.

Sooooo....what about list space?

As it stands now, we have 36 senior list players, meaning four vacancies, if we sign a DFA, that leaves three vacancies, and with three decent draft picks in the first two rounds. 29 + the later picks = 890 points, the equivalent of pick 21, around where we'd expect a bid on Mead.

If we sign Buzza AND Brand, then we'd need to relegate someone like Trent McKenzie or Jake Patmore to the rookie list.

If we only sign Buzza, then that means we're only gonna use picks 12 and 18 and match any Mead bid.

Consider an alternative universe whether Justin Westhoff never comes back from the SANFL and subsequently retired at the end of the year.

Howard stays in defence the rest of the year and makes it his own, which he was already well and truly on the way to doing before the trade. Billy Frampton steps up and takes the spot that Howard staying in defence left in the forward line, and as a result of the greater opportunity doesn't request a trade. We still have Howard on the list as our starting CHB for the next decade. We still have Frampton on the list, and aren't left with the situation of having literally zero KPF depth in the SANFL like we do now. We still have pick 10 instead of 12. And all it would've cost us is pick 21 (which is it what 18 will be after FS and Academy bids) and one year of an ageing Justin Westhoff.

While I and everyone here would love that world, there's a strong chance we would've told SPP to explore his options if we kept Howard to get currency for Fantasia.

We can’t use the late picks to match a bid on Mead if we already have a full senior list.

If we are going to sign tall spuds than I suspect it will be via the rookie list. We have 2 live picks in the rookie draft but 1 is probably on hold for Burgoyne.

Sam Gray may still be delisted too.

Are we the biggest losers?

Not entirely sold on the Howard, Ryder and pick 10 trade with St Kilda. Downgrading pick 10 to pick 12 and receiving pick 18 for Howard and Ryder could quite easily blow up in Port's face. The team really needed to keep Howard as in my opinion he has the potential to become one of the best swingmen in the competition, with his combination of speed and athleticism. Players like this can be hard to come by, and in coming years he would have been the perfect player to take over from the role Westhoff has been performing for the last few years. Will wait to see what Port can pull off at the draft, but at this stage they seem to be pretty big losers in this trade period.

You can't trade a future captain

Very poor to trade out a talented 23-year-old player and use the excuse that we dropped him a couple of times during the year. Does that mean we should have traded out every player who got dropped through the season? No, it is a weak excuse because Dougal Howard also captained the team when the co-captains were out injured.

3.3/10

3.3 is very generous

From championship data. In 2017 josh walker was the second best one on one player in the afl after Dustin Martin. Kaiden brand had the fourth best one on one wins of the top 50 one on one defenders. Buzz was generally crap but was a good tackler.

Might be against the grain but Port rate Trent Rivers extremely highly.

They are currently working with Freo on a first round pick swap that could see them move into #7, that’s probably too early for him so it wouldn’t surprise me if they went for a Stepens/Kemp selection there and banked on Rivers falling to #18

Straight from C4

I wouldn't be against picking up both buzza and brand not going to cost anything. But would want 4picks in the draft so need to make room.

Harley Bennell?

We won't as we are so scared of off field issues but...

I'd love to see us think outside the box.

Rookie him with the understanding that he trains and plays with then Maggies until he proves he is worthy if joining the Power squad for training and being considered for selection.

We used to work with players like Harley to make it work so long as they performed to expectations on the track and especially on the field because we used to be focused on success.

This is the same club that traded out Chad Wingard for playing too many video games.

Current day Port Adelaide would be doing both itself and Harley a disservice by recruiting him. If he's gonna have a fighting chance at reviving his career, he needs to be a better club than ours.

This is the same club that traded out Chad Wingard for playing too many video games. Then proceeds to swap pick 10 for 12 so it can trade out a guy who was captain a few months earlier in exchange for pick 18, and is now in "strategies" to lift improve that pick 12 a few places. And because it is a tall short having lost Frampton, Ryder AND Howard, is looking at a delisted spud because he is smaller than all 3 of them, but still tall. Meanwhile, Justin Westhoff will still be running around for us roaming between CHF and CHB, while Howard is at St Kilda, and Sam Gray will be the go to guy when Dixon is asked to play deep from the opening bounce once again
2020. The season PAFC destroys another ruckman by grinding him into the ground because it employs incompetent people

FTFY. If you were writing a script for a Jerry Springer show you could not come up with that

Harley was great mates with Dixon and was coached by Ken at GCS. He has 3 issues- 1. has he matured? 2. his left calf 3. his right calf.

I hope we do due diligence on him as he is exactly what we need, but I will understand if the club takes the conservative path and steers clear.
