Brad Hill finished 3rd in Freo’s BnF in 2019 after winning it in 2017…its swings and roundabouts I guess…
I thought Hill had a great first third of the season. Really slowed down after the bye, and looked a bit thicker too.

For those saying Battle’s the man for fighting hard whilst clearly leaving - I’m giving him a 50/50 - I mean, if he slacked off it would have been a PR and dollar burner for him - his contract and his whole reputation would be down the tube.

I agree but players come and players go.
How did we end up with

Steele
Howard
Buttler
Higgins
Hill
Henry
Wood
Crouch
Jones
Stocker
Dow
Cordy
Campbell
Bonner

All come from other clubs.
Most of them weren't wanted by their old clubs. How many were best 22 of the team they left and still wanted by them? I count Hill and Henry.

How many of those players came to us for a smaller salary than what their old club offered?

love wilks, great speech, very relaxed and confident, dare I say it sounded like a captain

also rolling my eyes at the battle pettiness. He gave his all for our club, every week, loved watching him play. I'm sure if we really wanted to keep him he would have stayed, and I don't mean by offering him more money, pure speculation but I think we wanted the pick and he sensed it a mile off, the rest is history

well deserved by Wilkie, awesome recognition for his outstanding career
Absolutely......how incredibly fortunate for us that we snagged Wilkes.

Still hasn't missed a game.....a truly incredible stat.

And how impressive is he as a speaker.......a true "follow me" type of guy.

Bet he doesn't miss accountancy work in Adelaide.

:):)

I went to the gym today and I’m not even a professional athlete. Plus I pay for my gym so I wouldn’t think it’s a big deal .
He was talking about culture and the shift in 2 years.

He said just as he got reappointed we had 1-2 players in the gym on non scheduled days.

15 would represent a third of the list. It highlights we are building a program where players want to be at the club and doing the work. The “extras”.

Again to you and others it may seem insignificant. But if you saw the lack of this under Ratten you would understand the cultural significance of this.

Playing every game always goes a long way in these things and obviously played his role well.

The top 10 were literally the 10 guys who played the most games this year, so I'm not sure "played his role well" necessarily came into it that much. Mason Wood was pretty decent most of the year but only played 18 so couldn't crack the top 10.

Agree and also winning games at end part of season instead of tanking for better picks.Awesome for confidence going forward

The podium highlights how big a loss Battle will be. Hopefully it's another incentive for band one compo.

Not sure what's going on with the animosity towards him, must have burnt some bridges on the way out.

Broke up over text to the entire playing group after telling them all and Ross he was staying.

Supposedly.

That's some pretty strange behaviour. He's always seemed like a bit of a dimwit. The whole "he's an amazing character" thing obviously total nonsense. Good player though.
If you want to delve further into the conspiracy.

His partner is a hawthorn supporter who was convinced by Mrs Mitchell that it was the right choice for Josh and helped persuade him

Told the players to their face he was staying then the next day sent a message to them saying actually, I'm going.
I guess you can kind of understand it. He obviously lacks maturity, but he felt embarrassed about leaving and feeling he was letting everyone down. It's not great behaviour but it's really not that bad.

Watching Wilkies speech I think probably sums up some of the ill feeling. Talked about his love for the club. A love Battle obviously doesn't share.

Yeah, his output was definitely down on last year so you imagine he played a role that was asked of him. Still a bit surprised though.

Fair bit of a mention for Seb too

Seb was pretty badly treated by us Saints fans. On paper his career is an absolute top shelf effort for a guy that was an honest soldier more than an elite talent. His relaxed manner seemed to shit the fans and he copped it for being the best player in an ordinary side.

Don't mind it. It will give the Saints some real venom for a couple of years. Hopefully the list takes it personally.
