Not that he has to, would be good if Battle out of respect for the people who have invested in him over his Saints journey came out at some stage & explained his reason for backflipping. Until then, it's just confusing & sad really.

Nar what's done is done. It's not unusual for absconding players to miss the B&F, and who really cares anyway. The sooner this absurd melodrama is over the better.

He's only beholden to his mates at the club and the club itself, owes us nothing.

It'll eventually come out in the wash, as these things always do, until then; we'd best have Dingley spotters lookout for the daycare so we can get the first word in and break that news ourselves, a BF first investigative journalist pursuit. You can even on-site methane vanish if you get found out to one up Purple, what's not to like?

I haven't seen one spirited defence of the system yet. It's all either what you've said or people saying that St Kilda's a shit club or whatever. Absolutely no arguments that this system benefits the game in any particular way.

Everyone knows it's a rort. Sydney showed the AFL exactly where they'd messed up the points system straight away. They don't care.

I'd happily give up Battle compo, FS and any NGA rights we might have now and into the future for a real draft. Won't happen. The league is not happy if they're not ruining something.
I love other fans calling us a loser club, even though many clubs are losing out and not doing relatively better (because of the Northern academies).

One other thing that doesn’t get mentioned much. It absolutely shits me the amount of players signed outside of the drafts. Sure, if they slide through the drafts and you take them over summer. But ex runners and cricketers and basketballers and Irishmen. Ffs. Mainly headed to big clubs too.

The fact that the swans have drafted pretty poorly in the open draft since 2019 with the exception of Warner & Maybe McDonald and yet still played off for a flag really highlights the extraordinary impact of the swans academy.
If we’d had that many draft misses over the same period (without an academy), we’d be stuck in the bottom 3.
It does make me a little nervous about Dalrympal.
Good point re: academies almost entirely driving their success.

McDonald is still young, but gee…

I've always felt that, if you're going to do the outside the draft signings, limit them to non-finalists at the very least. Very tough for the leadership to come up with ideas like that in between long lunches, I'm guessing. Particularly when fairness isn't something they particularly care about.

Cat B rookies are fine, every team has the same access to these blokes but it comes down to the clubs having the ability to identify the talent, and in those instances where there are multiple clubs interested, convince the player that they're the best option.

In 20 odd years there's only really been Blicavs, Keath and a few Irish blokes. Hardly an issue.

OK - as a beneficiary of one of the tickets to the B&F from the player sponsorship I had a fairly hectic day. I finished up an on-line meeting with my UK office, then pretty much had to immediately get changed and make the trek up from the Mornington Peninsula to Crown. I love the venue, and there was a lot less protestors than the last time I was there!

My only gripe (as someone that had to drive there) was minor, but it was that there was no light beer option available in the drinks in the foyer area outside the ballroom. I'm no fan of light beer, but in this day and age responsible alcohol consumption if you are driving is mandatory, and venues/event managers must consider this.

The event was great and I loved the central round stage in the middle of the room, to bring the action closer to the paying members.

By absolute chance, I ended up sitting next to the other forum ticket holder in Samm!! It was a great pleasure to meet her, and she is good company and has some interesting tales to tell of her far-flung adventures.

I had a few (watery) light beers once inside so made a few trips to the facilities, which is where I seemed to run into a large part of our playing list and coaching staff, including the eventual winner! Loved the President's speech, and more power to him - I would almost consider a campaign to change the club's constitution to enable this bloke to stay in the role for an extra term!

One thing I would like to know - who is the girl that MC'd the event? She's obviously not just some random, but I have no idea who she is, although she spoke very well........

I have to like what he said about me, don't i? :D

You don't know Channel 9's Alicia Loxley?
Watch very little TV, and certainly no free to air stuff, so no.

Unless she plays AFL footy, plays in a rock/heavy metal band, or works outs at my gym, she's unlikely to cross my radar.
