We had a little purple patch back in about 2010-2011? Duncan was playing some AFL but in the VFL we had Menzel, Christensen, Mitch Brown and Vardy I think. Smedts was injured but we thought he would be a star, Motlop was injured I think? And C.Guthrie.

Anyway, obviously didn't work out for all of them but I remember watching a game and I think Brown kicked about 6, Menzel maybe 4 and Christensen 3 and I thought, this is the best bunch of kids we've had since 2001-2002.
It is interesting to look back on that's for sure.
Like most things in life, we get blindsided and live in the moment and fail to recognize what could be.

No different with the list back then as many Cats supporters were in love with Spriggs (the next Crawford), Bizzell, King (became a star), Moloney, Ablett (for obvious reasons), Kelly and a couple of others at the time.
In the background, we had that many talented youngsters it became frightening for the competition.

It boggles the mind to think we never saw the best of Egan, Menzel and Nablett and we are still winning premierships to this very day, 15 years later. Arguably three players whom clubs build around.
Absolutely.

I should've prefaced: I believe that Menzel, Vardy, Christensen, Cockatoo group had the potential to be something special - but we just never got any continuity into them, or other issues such as what Bundy dealt with.

As you say, particularly with Nablett & Egan a touch earlier, we missed out on some real core pieces who were the types you build lists around.

We've been unlucky at times, but I believe with all things being equal (I.e health & fitness) this group will be the best we've had since that '03-'06 period.

Completely flogged since the moment I turned it on in the 3rd quarter.

I find it hard to be anything more than lukewarm on Clark... I want to see much more from him at this level.

Jeka is useless.
Poor decision maker.
Horrible in one on ones.
That opinion is clear!

I do see a lack of intensity (although that can be just a style thing in my opinion) - but from what I saw his skills are pretty good and stand out at VFL level.

Not saying he would make it at AFL level…

Needs to find a role, I think next year, would be looking at him as defensive midfielder.

Someone like Drew at Port could be a good model for him.

Tagging to get him going.

We have to scale back our expectations, he is more limited than we thought. That is clear already.

When its your turn to go... yo uhave to go.

Twice in the last 1/2 he needed to go and didnt and Blues got claen possession and it hurt us.

If Jeka could play the entire game in free space and only need to chip kick 35m to teamates he'd be great. He can mark at times and he reads the play well but he makes some horrible intensity based errors that I just cant get past.

Id luv him to prove me wrong

GO CAtters
