Dempsey is playing good minutes on the wing and using his tank to get way back deep into our defensive 50 to help out.

So Dempsey for Rohan would only work if someone else was pushed into playing Dempsey's role (maybe Close, although he kind does this already anyway).

Ollie Henry is the clear like for like with Rohan.

Ahh well, it's good to have options, I guess.
I don’t think Rohan is a pure like for like with anyone
He’s like Henry how he stays inside the 50 mainly
He’s like close with his chase down tackles
He’s like no one in our side with his attack on the footy

Begs the question though how he gets back to the AFL. The only way in my mind is taking one of the Ollie’s out? Rohan (despite coaching hints) doesn’t play any other role other than that pressure forward - doesn’t have tank for further up ground.
Injury, or half-back. I wouldn't drop an Ollie for him.

Just got home. Fantastic win by the boys. Very different game than last year where we just weren't on their level (even though we battled hard). Couple of quick notes on a few players...

Humphries - looks VERY promising. Very composed, nice skills, and his brain's working at AFL speed. Was a moment where he got an intercept and flicked it over to COS in a flash, who fumbled it (zero disrespect to COS, but Humphries is playing at a

COS - once he settles into our AFL team, I can see him becoming our next "general" in a few years. It's just his 4th or 5th game, but he's already encouraging his team mates and shouting instructions.

Wiltshire - ergh, what are we going to do with all these classy small forwards? Had great presence up forward, always felt like something was going to happen when he was lurking.

Mannagh - just a great player who gets involved. Good to see him playing just as much mid time as he did forward, and held his own.

Hardie - one of our best players today, just from my observation. He was in everything and while he racked up a lot of ball, it was the pressure and effort he put in too. Can't do much more than that what he's doing.

Phoenix - struggled. Brave contest at the end, though thankfully he seemed fine after the game (saw him standing up and talking to a Lions player). The sub-standard delivery didn't help, but Neale had that last year and was still able to impact a little. Not sure if he'll make it but he seems to be giving his all.

Knevitt - another who's playing well enough for seniors. He looks like he's progressed again from last year, and he stood out. That tackle on the final siren was EPIC!

Right, now to get ready to head into the Gabba. Would prefer the margin to be a bit more lop-sided, but will take 3 points again in a pinch!

It's incredibly exciting, and another reason why we need be doing to everything in our power, almost no matter what the cost is, to get our hands on a quality KPF to lead our attack post-Hawkins and Jez.

We've never had such a promising array of young small and mid-sized forwards. None of them are over the age of 25!

Stengle (25 years old)
Close (25 years old)
Miers (25 years old)
Dempsey (21 years old)
O.Henry (21 years old)

That alone gives us an extremely strong group of smalls and mids for the next 5 or so years at minimum. But then you can add on to that the more speculative names below that.

Clohesy (19)
Wiltshire (21)

It would be such a waste of this group if can't find a decent tall to lead the line while they're in their prime so we can get the most out of them.

This commentary is so biased towards us it's ridiculous.
Haha I've seen a lot of Brisbane since moving up here.. Geelong had a stronger backing and cleared the ball better through the back half into the forward line.. Knevitt, Hardie and Clohesy dominated the midfield.. if I had to name a top 10 for my best players, Reville and Macpherson would have been the only 2 from Brisbane that make it.. maybe Smith at a stretch.. it was a genuine and polished performance by Geelong and the final act of the day summed up why they were the most deserved winners.. I think I mentioned midway through the second term when scores were level that any score would do because of the inability from either side to kick away and the mere fact of holding the lead was vital in a low scoring game.

I will say.. with the rain that I thought was going to come in the 2nd half that I predicted in the 2nd quarter we'd get 6 goals in total for the second half.. the rain didn't come but my prediction was still spot on.

Great job by the team, solid performance and they out performed a team that are a top 6 team on their day.. Clohesy had 6 tackles or so in the 3rd quarter.. he can play.

Enjoyed your call of the game and appreciate the summary.
Now if only some of the AFL commentators were as courteous to pop in and respond to some of the "criticism" they receive on here.

Now I HAVE to watch the replay

The pleasure is mine.. I enjoy seeing teams come up here from Vic, I feel like a kid walking into Wonka's Chocolate Factory seeing 23 players almost for the first time and truly appreciating their art.

I've been lucky to call all levels of afl up here but there is something about the VFL that makes it the best competition to call, more than the AFL. I had the pleasure of calling the last VFL games of 6 players this year before they made their debut in the ones the next week.. Geelong has a lot of potential, not just in its recent draftee group, but its vfl list that could walk straight into the AFL.

This win by the team was led by its inexperienced group and it should deliver more wins as the year progresses against quality teams.. Ted Clohesy, will not forget the name.

Any chance you could replace JB & BT?

To be fair, by the time I did recognise it was Foster, even then he was still 150 metres away. I hope he's okay
I was watching presumably the same feed you had...

Jsut called it as I saw it - granted I only know the Cats players now all the teams kids.

GO Catters

The standard of commentary at VFL puts the AFL commentators especially channel 7 to shame. I thought you did a ripping job ChrisThaLedg.

The only improvement would've been a cameraman who hadn't tried to go beer for beer with Boonie the night before!
This the commentary was fantastic but the camera work was abysmal

You might find the cameraman may have been a volunteer

I think the commentary was one of the best I have heard on a VFL game.. and you did it solo. well done. Good insights too like your commentary on Bradtkie

The camera work however ...mmmmm. Not an afl follower id guess.
