That's quite a decent looking side, with 15 AFL-listed players, and hopefully it will be strong enough to win, something we need after last week's disappointing loss. I'm very keen to see DeMattia, and of course more of Parker. The lack of a genuine ruckman is likely to be an issue again, but I'm hoping we can get around that.

Here's what we're up against: https://www.essendonfc.com.au/news/1538964/vfl-rd-5-team-selection-v-collingwood

That looks like 12 from Essendon's AFL list.
Oh my. I forgot all about Weideman being on Bombers list 😆 & Shiel. Has Shiel been injured?

No coach or analyst would have positive things to say after how AJ has played. I’ve never called him useless or s**t. Why shouldn’t I challenge his contract and ask for him to be delisted? Ruscoe had a more inspiring season at VFL level but went, so did Bianco. Cal Brown, the perineal whipping boy, has looked better than AJ at VFL level this year and so has Will Kelly. Different positions but the point remains.

If he’s struggling, take mental health leave as he has every right to. No different to other injuries.
Quit with your hogwash thoughts.
You come across as a know it all.
Boring AF

So Shiel is someone our mids will have to be wary of.

Guelfi is another experienced player they have playing
They have Bryan who is a strong ruckman. Averaging something like 30+ HOs each week and helping himself to touches. Near AFL standard.

Hately has been on fire, as has O’Neill.

Begg will have to have his wits about him for that battle with Bryan who has 22 disposals and 32 hitouts last week
Begg will have a huge task there. Probably about limiting impact and being competitive.

I’m interested to see how he goes with Vigo, who’s a similar age and development level.

They have yet to win a game. Though they did just have a 1 point loss to southport. But got smashed by Sandy. Lost to bris (us too) and footscray
Their list looks better than their results.

Footscray are the best side in the competition. Probably helps the musical chairs there means they have at least two AFL players on their team each week. Brisbane good as well, not sure what happened at Sandy and we lost to Coburg.

I think it will be close.

VFL-listed players Cooper Macdonald, Harrison Kennedy, Tom Wilson, and Patrick Farrant are the four outs for Saturday’s game.

Pity about Farrant I thought he showed glimpses of excellent potential in his first game.

Why? Apart from his mark last week he’s done nothing.
I don’t get this fascination with him, and the lament that we might lose him.
At 190cm he’s not the fwd were looking for.
He's kicked multiple goals in 3/4 games.
He brings x factor, and you know something is about to happen when the ball is around him. Takes screamers. He's a taller version of jamie elliott.

His only X factor is marking. That’s not enough when you’re 190cm.
A goal here or there is not enough, he needs to dominate in a game to justify the hype he’s getting here.
Krueger is far more athletic and got more X factor - that’s the benchmark for Hutchinson IMO especially given his poor KPP size relative to Kreuger.

Sorry Jen - I know he’s one of your favourites.

Given it was only a couple months ago he was playing local, I think what he is showing at this level is more than enough of the potential. He is raw but you can see what he brings
He'll get even better in a full time environment too.

I see you'll need some time to get on the Jumping Jack bangwagon haha

Nothing would please me more than to be on the bandwagon because that would mean I’ve been convinced.

It would be interesting to see how he’d go as a high half forward in a role similar to Gunston. Does he have ground level tricks to be a deeper forward at AFL level?

Interview I read talked how his is better playing at half forward. We've been forced to use him deep for reasons. But with Reef playing, Jack has been named at half forward so lets see how he goes playing higher up.
Fraser talked about how much ground he covers. He's really quick between the arcs.

Yeah, I did read those comments by a local coach. Generally I take such comments with a grain of salt though as a coach will usually talk positively.

Think it was by a coach that coached against him? We can only take in stuff we hear from others. I'd like to see how he goes playing higher up the ground. He's got great workrate and pressure.

Fraser said this
"He’s played mainly as a deep forward, we’ve shuffled him around a little bit, but he’s got a great goal sense, great aerial ability, and he lands and follows up well. He’s quite unconditional in effort, he jumps at the ball and lands and follows up well."
