POTY

5. Reilly - One of the few players to make a 4 quarter contribution, and did a great job on Burgoyne when moved onto him after half time. Got plenty of his own ball as well.

4. Dangerfield - almost non-existent first half, but a match-winning 2nd half, particularly that outstanding 3rd quarter of his. You have to pinch yourself to realise just how young he is for how good he is!! :thumbsu:

3. Tambling - he's going to be a great get for this club. His speed and carry were vital, especially in the first half. Great game, and IMO there's even better to come.

2. Stevens - a couple of clangers but gee, he was good. Along with Reilly and Doughty, he gets the shit rubbished out of him for just existing by the uninformed posters, who seem to be blind to his contribution week after week. Saved us constantly when we were under siege.

1. Davis - while Buddy got a fair bit of the ball on him, most of that was because Davis allowed Buddy to roam up-field while he waited for the ball to come in. Great reader of the play, cool as a cucumber, and did well in the one on ones against Buddy. Genuine star of the future.

Unlucky: - McKernan, Sloane. Vince and Walker.

Best Team Man:

3. Sloane - courageous little bugger that he is, we're going to miss him while he's gone. He's not big, but he puts it all on the line for the club in every contest and on top of that he can really play as well. Unselfish too. You have to love Sloaney!! :)

2. Stevens - See POTY. Epitomises what the team man award stands for.

3. van Berlo - had to sacrifice his game and help fill Porps role once he'd gone from the game so early. Led the side well, won plenty of hard ball and kicked 2 A grade goals. Born to be a leader.

ROOKIE

3. McKernan - IMO, by far the better of our 2 ruckman on the night, and if he can carry that form on, he'll cement a permanent spot in the side. Took some nice grabs and really performed when the game was on the line. Keep that hair short Smack - it's your secret to success!! :D

2. Smith - thank you very much - to all the other clubs that never drafted him before our turn. Quality young player, who more than held his own in this baptism of fire. Has speed and provides run and depth when he gets the ball. 200 plus gamer of the future.

I also found it hard due to the contrasting nature of our performance. The terrible first half, the fantastic second half. How do you rate a Dangerfield, Walker or Stevens who were terrible in the first half but very good in the second versus a Reilly who was decent throughout?
I had Radar as our BOG. Didn't give Walker or Dangerfield any votes, as they didn't bother turning up until half time.

Stevens was a 4-quarter contributor, though not in the same class as Reilly & Tambling.

Pretty much. Depends how you rank the performances of the guys that won the match, against the guys who kept us in it when the matchwinners hadn't bothered to show up during the first half. It's a nice spread.

Easily. Second halves win games of football.

Dangerfield was easily the best player on the ground.

You have pretty well nailed it Macca23, except that Rutten needs to get a mention somewhere. Perhaps as team man? Or else most definitely to be added to the list of 'unlucky'.

Damn. He was meant to be on the "unlucky" list, but I inadvertently left him off.

You're right - he did have a very good game. :thumbsu:

POTY
5: Davis - Played on the most dangerous, hard to match up tall forward in the comp and despite Buddy's number of scoring shots did a great job, and found plenty of footy himself. On a lesser opponent I reckon Buddy would have kicked at least 5. Also helped out teammates with selfless spoils and stopped a definite goal to Bateman with a desperate lunge to take him off balance at the top of the goal square.

4: Tambling - Played with a blend of hardness and flair, and didn't wilt early when we were under the pump. Super first game for the club.

3: Dangerfield - Blew the game open in the 3rd quarter when we were looking vulnerable. Would prefer more consistency from quarter to quarter, but his impact on the result is undeniable.

2: Walker - Again, had an undeniable effect on the result. Did things that nobody else on our team is capable of, that ignited the crowd and sparked his teammates. 4 goals, 3 in the vital 3rd quarter - can't be left out of the votes.

1: Reilly - Really good midfielders game, not ultra damaging but did a lot of heavy lifting and found a fair bit of the ball by his standards.

Unlucky: Stevens, McKernan, Thompson, Sloane, vB, Vince, Rutten

Thanks for the work in tallying, Brucetiki!

If Rutten got 20 votes total, that's two more than VB, and he should get the 1 vote, yes?

(or did I miss something?)
