Europe War in Ukraine - Thread 4 - thread rules updated

This is the thread for discussing the War in Ukraine. Should you want to discuss the geopolitics, the history, or an interesting tangent, head over here:

If a post isn't directly concerning the events of the war or starts to derail the thread, report the post to us and we'll move it over there.

Seeing as multiple people seem to have forgotten, abuse is against the rules of BF. Continuous, page long attacks directed at a single poster in this thread will result in threadbans for a week from this point; doing so again once you have returned will make the bans permanent and will be escalated to infractions.

This thread still has misinformation rules, and occasionally you will be asked to demonstrate a claim you have made by moderation. If you cannot, you will be offered the opportunity to amend the post to reflect that it's opinion, to remove the post, or you will be threadbanned and infracted for sharing misinformation.

Addendum: from this point, use of any variant of the word 'orc' to describe combatants, politicians or russians in general will be deleted and the poster will receive a warning. If the behaviour continues, it will be escalated. Consider this fair warning.

Finally: If I see the word Nazi or Hitler being flung around, there had better have a good faith basis as to how it's applicable to the Russian invasion - as in, video/photographic evidence of POW camps designed to remove another ethnic group - or to the current Ukrainian army. If this does not occur, you will be threadbanned for posting off topic

This is a sensitive area, and I understand that this makes for fairly incensed conversation sometimes. This does not mean the rules do not apply, whether to a poster positing a Pro-Ukraine stance or a poster positing an alternative view.

Behave, people.

The largest European nations are ready to support Ukraine if the new US administration decides to halt aid for Kyiv, said Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski following the Warsaw summit, DoRzeczy reports.

According to Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski, the participants agreed that Europe must take greater responsibility for its security, including a more balanced distribution of NATO defense spending.

I think once donny get his feet under the table at the WH you will see a reduction in the amount of arms that the US will give to Ukraine as we all know Putin has donny in his pocket

Earlier, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said Ukrainian manufacturers produced 100 missiles this year and successfully scaled up the serial production of R-360 Neptune cruise missiles.

The supply of Taurus, a German-Swedish air-launched cruise missile system with a range of about 500 kilometers, could significantly enhance Ukraine’s long-range strike capabilities in its defensive war against Russian aggression.

What critical metals does Ukraine have that either Canada or the US itself cannot provide?
Not going to lie, Ukrainian metal is not my specialty, but Google tells me the list includes:

Drudkh

Nokturnal Mortum

SINOPTIK

Hell: on

Scarleth

I'm confident they'd tour the US if there was a market

You’re adamant that nothing will happen?

💯 confident ?
That Putin/Russia wont launch a nuclear weapon after ATACMS are launched at Russian military targets, just like he hasn't launched a nuclear weapon when he claimed he would after the 100 other "red lines" have been crossed?

I'm 100% confident it wont happen. World will continue to revolve and western leaders made to look stupid again for not acting earlier.

According to Reddit (pinch of salt and everything) the USA mines have a timer in them so they fail to go off because of someone stepping on them, they'll naturally just go off making post-war clean up easier
Read something similar elsewhere. That they either self destruct or lose battery power to render them inactive within weeks. So using them purely on or near frontlines would mean a very low chance of civilians being exposed.

This hit was on a major building somewhere between Rylsk and Lgov (north of the frontline within Kursk oblast).

The super interesting thing about this strike is that the RF description of events didn't claim everything was shot down. They reported 10 attempted strikes, and that only 2 were intercepted. That's a change in approach by Russia.

The target was a former palace. Considering it's proximity to the Kursk front, perhaps it was a command centre. Guess we'll find out.

Hope it pastes successfully. Love his terminology.

Edit : pasting text in case post didn't embed.

The head of the Foreign Ministry of France demands not to take nuclear threats to [Russia] seriously and to continue striking.

"This is all nuclear rhetoric that has been used by the scumbag for the last 2.5 years to cause concern. And this is not completely out of the blue, since a few weeks ago he already announced a change in doctrine. So let's not be afraid."

Edit 2: had to substitute the name Russia for the less savoury synonym used by the Ukrainian blogger (lel)

Good. For every Iranian & North Korean missile fired at Ukraine there should be twice as many western supplied missiles fired back at Russian military targets. I'd support Zelensky publicly stating as much.

Game, set and match for Putin. It's simply futile for Russia to continue the war, the invasion.

After the so called "red line" being crossed in the most unsurprising news of all time Russia is already distancing itself form nuke use.....

This is why nobody takes Russia seriously. After storm shadow, atacms etc deployment on Russian territory they're now backtracking about making nuke threats officially.

I say Bucharest 8 (Finland, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Moldova, Hungary) minus Hungary with Orban being a vatnik now send in troops unilaterally from NATO to help Ukraine secure its territory if invited to do so by Zelesnky. All these states have a valid reason to with Russia being right on their border and having a history of attacking former Eastern bloc states either officially or through hybrid means. This would absolutely be the end game for Putin in Ukraine.

Looks like Xi has been in Putin's ear to cause this level of back pedaling from the Russians. Quite clearly Ukraine defending itself can not and will never be a threat to the territorial integrity of Russian territory.

Whatever it is once again Russia has shown to have no credibility - again.

It is amusing that Putin ever tried to claim F16s being supplied to Ukraine was crossing any sort of line, even a red line.

50 year old technology ffs.

Yeah but 50 year old tech is significantly newer than the tanks Russia is rolling back into service, so he feels embarrassed.

There are posters in here that would have you believe Russia is going just fine in this war, has plenty of troops in reserve.

The reality is Russia is sending North Korean troops to the front line. Forcibly conscripting Ukranian citizens in occupied Ukranian territory to the front line against the Geneva convention. Begging Iran/North Korea for supply of ammo/ballistic/cruise missiles.

These are not the actions of a state that a war is going well for. They are in fact acts of pure desperation.
