Europe War in Ukraine - Thread 4 - thread rules updated

This is the thread for discussing the War in Ukraine. Should you want to discuss the geopolitics, the history, or an interesting tangent, head over here:

If a post isn't directly concerning the events of the war or starts to derail the thread, report the post to us and we'll move it over there.

Seeing as multiple people seem to have forgotten, abuse is against the rules of BF. Continuous, page long attacks directed at a single poster in this thread will result in threadbans for a week from this point; doing so again once you have returned will make the bans permanent and will be escalated to infractions.

This thread still has misinformation rules, and occasionally you will be asked to demonstrate a claim you have made by moderation. If you cannot, you will be offered the opportunity to amend the post to reflect that it's opinion, to remove the post, or you will be threadbanned and infracted for sharing misinformation.

Addendum: from this point, use of any variant of the word 'orc' to describe combatants, politicians or russians in general will be deleted and the poster will receive a warning. If the behaviour continues, it will be escalated. Consider this fair warning.

Finally: If I see the word Nazi or Hitler being flung around, there had better have a good faith basis as to how it's applicable to the Russian invasion - as in, video/photographic evidence of POW camps designed to remove another ethnic group - or to the current Ukrainian army. If this does not occur, you will be threadbanned for posting off topic

This is a sensitive area, and I understand that this makes for fairly incensed conversation sometimes. This does not mean the rules do not apply, whether to a poster positing a Pro-Ukraine stance or a poster positing an alternative view.

Behave, people.

The shells are being manufactured at a new plant in the rural Queensland town of Maryborough and exported to Germany. Once there, they will be filled with explosive material and receive a fuse – and after that they go into the pool of ammunition to be transferred to Ukraine. While it is impossible to track each individual shell, some – or all – of the Australian production run will be fired against Russian invaders.

This is not being done via the Australian government – indeed 100% of the factory’s current output is going to Germany. This is a consequence of the ownership of the plant, which is a 51-49 joint venture between industrial giant Rheinmetall Waffe Munition and family-owned Australian company NIOA. While the JV is currently producing German DM121 shells at a rate of 20,000 per year, this will progressively increase because of global demand to an annual total exceeding 100,000.

Even though there is huge global demand for 155mm ammunition, the Australian Army has future proofed supply with a series of 5-year contracts, the most recent of which came into effect in June 2023.

Imagine this scenario:

Putin - Let's nuke Maryborough. Those Nazis are arming Ukraine!

Mobik in missile bunker: Missile fired sir. Detonation confirmed - Maryborough is no more!

Putin - what do you mean? The ammunition factory is still there!

Mobik in missile bunker: Oops, I fired on Maryborough, Victoria. You did not tell me which Maryborough to nuke!

Should I nuke Maryborough in QLD sir?

Just incase, get some air defense for both.

Kotlubany ammunition storage in Volgograd oblast, and Milerovo airfield on Rostov oblast, both struck in Ukrainian attacks.

Kotlubany attack has reportedly not been accurate and the ammunition storage survived. Unsure about the results of other strikes.

When asked about his July interview where he claimed that if Putin rejected his peace deal, he would provide Ukraine with more aid than ever before, Trump responded:

“I did say that, so I can say it to you. But I did say that and nobody picked it up. They don’t because it makes so much sense.”

Long but interesting article about Russian trolls wrt Crimea, Ukraine, Covid and the US general erection. I was disappointed that a few BF posters were not named, still we can hope.

It starts with a quote from Piggy, which given his fate is more than a little ironic.

'Gentlemen, we interfered, we interfere, and we will interfere … Carefully, precisely, surgically, and in our own way, as we know how. During our pinpoint operations, we will remove both kidneys and the liver at once.'

Yuck.

Hoping that Iran is about to **** around and find out.

hopefully denting Russias missile supply.
A few people openly cheering on Iran not realizing (and one or two I daresay not caring) that this is a regime that has been selling weapons solely to attack innocent civilians in a third country that never had any conflict with it. The whole regime and all its supporters should be minced.

Im not sure how well the Iranian leadership represents the average Iranian (the ones I've met in Australia suggest not at all, but that would make sense)

But i have no idea how anyone could cheer on Iran, even if you don't like what Israel is doing.

Considering how many of their own people they killed in protests in the last few years, a lot would despise them internally too.

Well that means, if Russia decides to use nukes against Ukraine, it will also have to use nukes against USA as a prophylactic measure.

Not sure that the posters here have got a sane grip on reality.
This is what MAD means.

And it works if both sides refrain from overt aggression and initiating the first step.

What you are doing is saying that if Russia takes the first step, as a consequence of its own overt aggression and it escalates, it's the Wests fault, and not Dear Leader's.

But MAD only works if it's clear that this is what will happen. If a signal is sent to Putin that he can take the first step, and nothing will happen, because the West are expected to be the adults n the room, then why wouldn't he? He has made it clear he doesn't care about a death toll.

Do you want nukes used?

You do don't you? But only Russian ones. It's why you are focussed on escalation from initiation, not initiation.

An obvious stance from someone who gets his news from sources that use terms like capatilist pigs.

Pretty sure this describes the UK and US support for Israel too in their Lebanon invasion, no?

Israel's invasions and occupation of Palestine and Lebanon with US weapons only exposes the hypocrisy of when they want the world to condemn and sanction Russia for doing the same thing in Ukraine.

Not quite, Hezbollah are not innocents.

Even if the UK & US are guilty of hypocrisy, this is utterly irrelevant regarding Russia being worthy of condemnation and sanctions and Ukraine being the innocent victim of Russian aggression deserving support.

Wrong thread for condemnation of UK, US re Palestine.
