Yep, I noticed it too. The encroachment over the mark was blatant. Couldn't buy a HTB when the ball was clearly dropped in the tackle. The "free" on Josh Daicos was laughable.
The game against the Dee's was better.
Umpire no.12 Stephens seemed to be the main villain. He also gave the non HTB after Rowbottom's text book tackle on De Gooey.

He's from Brisbane. He was accused of being a die-hard Hawks fan after awarding dodgy decisions in their favour a little while back. He claimed it was mere coincidence that he had a Hawks GF banner on his twitter account. He may just be a Swans hater. He entered the Umpiring fraternity as a rookie in 2012 then to seniors in 2014. So he began umpiring during the heat of the AFL's campaign to disadvantage Sydney at all cost.

He has form for using the 15m rule to the advantage of one team but does he have something against Sydney? Perhaps he didn't get the memo from AFL HQ that Fat Eddie only paid for one premiership and 2024 is to be Carlton's year?

For whatever reason, he showed some pretty poor umpiring, which is not so terriblein itself, after all it's a fast moving game. But all his "mistakes" seemed to advantage one side. I think he's in the same camp as Meridith and Stevic.

While the media cry crocodile tears for the poor Pies, who claim they are still finding their touch, I think the same can be said for the Swans. We made so many un-Swans-like errors that we could easily have added six to eight more goals.

Had we lost a tight game this board would have demanded the coach's head for each and every one handling error, but in the wake of such a win small mistakes usually slip past uncommented.

I feel confident the player's match review will focus on what we did wrong as much as on everything we did right. The competitions's too even to rest on our laurels. Horse needs to channel Ming the Merciless in demanding more of his players - or in Ming's parlance, his flunkies. The mere fact that we can be much better should serve as motivation to improve.

To answer the question of how we fit our returning mids back into the fold. I agree with Horse that the problem, as nice as it is to have, will take care of itself.

We have a block of short break games coming up from late April-early May, such as GWS off a six day break when they have nine days. Our byes are too long, so they may act more as a disadvantage than an advantage.

The returning mids will ensure others have time to recover. Some KPPs may also need resting. It's not enough to just do well to finish the H&A season top four. We need to ensure we're fresh for the finals too.

His head is still and over the ball , this could be the best kicking side in the modern era
You may be onto something there.

Roberts looks very calm under pressure, he's not afraid to take the hits and his kicking skills are very polished. Rare qualities indeed. His ability to absorb, to trust his teammates, to stay calm and kick with precision can be the difference between a turning over the ball inside (or just outside) our defensive 50 vs. clearing the defence to setup a fast rebound attack with space in front of us.

Our ability to quickly turn defence into attack, was a big contributor to our win. By contrast, the pressure applied by our forwards and across the midfield meant the Pies' attempts to rebound were breaking down. They couldn't move the ball with their usual run or go coast to coast. Many of the Pies turnovers happened well before they got near their forward 50. It wasn't until the Pies forwards started coming right up to meet their mids that they began to get any connection.

Before the opening round I wondered if Roberts would show enough to justify his selection and hold his spot. Everyone agreed he'd had a great pre-season. He'd shown enough talent in his debut year, but he'd also missed a good chunk of footy.

Now I'm on board the Roberts Railway. I think he'll have more up than down games. He may be rested at times, but I don't doubt he's ready. We've unearthed yet another top notch young player.

Just caught up with the game, knew the result but having extended family visit meant I couldn't watch much this weekend.

What a win and everyone played their role.

One thing I will say- DON'T CHANGE THE MIDFIELD when Parker/Adams return. It's the most dynamic it's been in years.

Funny how a few changes to the list makes us deep again, May last year we were screaming about our poor depth :p

I think it’s the types we added that make the depth seem even deeper.

Grundy now means that Ladhams can perfect his craft and hopefully, when called upon, provide a really strong option in the ruck. In the meantime we have one of the tallest midfielders in the league (after Cripps).

Jordon is the ideal team man and you can never have enough grunt which of course Adams provides. Add to this the improvement in guys like Warner, Rowbottom and McInerney and suddenly the list bats deeper with only a few tweaks here and there.

I think Warner was already there

Fair but to me, the eye test, he looks more threatening this year.

Agree. He is playing well thus far..

For me our irreplaceable player is Tom McCartin. It seems every season he just goes to another level.

Are we the most elite kicking team in the AFL?

We've just added Roberts elite foot skills to our team to go alongside Gulden, Blakey, Rampe, McInerney, Heeney, Campbell & Florent (haven't had a lot of time to judge Jordon in this department but he rarely seems to make a mistake by foot too)

This has probably been said, but I’m pretty sure Jordon’s reputation at Melbourne was that he was a bit of a shit kick.

We must've been watching different games. I thought the midfield was poor. Not overly concerned as our rebounding game was as good as it's ever been, plus it felt like Horse was going full experimental, basically playing our entire wing rotation on the inside for much of the game. Not worth hitting the panic buttons when the full personnel just isn't available and you have to try things on the fly. But there was clearly a need for more hardness in there as the Pies mids were doing as they pleased and it made us look like the slow, reactive group of recent years.

Disagree, we looked way more dynamic in there, Heeney in there helps, what I'm petrified of is Horse being Horse and wanting Parker in there at all costs. In a weird way we have unlocked Heeney with those players being out. Have liked the dynamic of the mids, them not bombing it long every posession is such a change from Parker doing it 20 times a game.

Heeney's been awesome, but the midfield as a whole still has work to do as a better team would've made us pay for our work at centre bounces.

The only better side than who we have played is GWS (who should be the title favourites lets be real). Personally I'm keeping the mid rotation put Parker forward, maybe Adams for Hayward is the change we do

I think Caeser and LPno1 are both right

Midfield did work well but also still needs to improve a lot- hence Mills, Adams maybe Parker , well most likely Parker go back into rotation.

At times the pies cleared it easily and our delivery was craphouse, what they did well which is great footy is they kept fixing the mistakes. I commented during the game the midfield is almost competing against itself and its own stupidity . They would let the pies clear it and push back to clean it up, or bomb away and have it returned but the follow up was exceptional.

But yeah if Adams is fully fit with the pressure he brings for example, he is going in there.

If Mills gets his 2022 form back in combo with Heeney yes please

Mills & Heeney would almost be the perfect combination of midfielders. Both great two-way mids, but Heeney a little more dangerous offensively and Mills a little more dangerous defensively. Would be so hard to stop.

Sorry Ticky, I know this is off topic but I want the most views.
Does anyone either can or knows how to contact the guy who runs the DTLive website showing the DT/Fantasy scores for each game. I notice that you can't access details from opening round games and I need to do so.
