Re Rowbottom's role, I'm actually not sure what it is as both games have been very different so far, I just know it's not the defensive mid role he's had the last two seasons.

Against Melbourne he seemed to be playing as a pure ball-winner at the ruckman's feet. Against Collingwood he seemed to be playing as a half forward. I'm watching the replay right now and he's playing mostly off the half forward line. He pushes up to stoppages but even then it's mostly on the outside. Dale Thomas at the start of the match said he's running with De Goey but other than a few contests, it's mostly been a combination of Heeney & Jordon on De Goey.

I said earlier I wonder if Rowbottom's being managed for something, because it's by far the least inside he's been in a game in at least a few seasons, a curious move considering the outs we have.

Either way I like it so much better than what he was doing the last few seasons. Even at half forward he's got the freedom to run around being a mad cat and isn't preoccupied just sticking to one bloke all game.

I was checking round 20 v Essendon last year, so had it open, it was interesting to compare Rowbottom round 20 last year to Collingwood this year round 1 , where he is getting the ball and going. Certainly more forward as you say, similar touches, tackling more and impacting the scores

Have said it all along. He will still tackle and work his arse off no matter what we do with him, so we may as well use him in a more proactive way and get the best of both from him.

Lloyd is better than Cunnigham

Yes overall he’s a better player, but he can’t tag fast small/med forwards like Harry can… so IMO, Lloyd gets dropped before Harry.

Cunningham gets out worked all the time

Better tackler though , I think you could shuffle the side around enough and take advantage of the upside Lloyd offers in attack

I've never defender Jake Lloyd before this is an odd feeling.


It's a tough call, Cunningham also likes to go missing get out marked, mis tackles

Him and Parker in the front half won’t work imo , ball will walk out.

I’d be inclined to play Parker as a somewhat tall when forward with his marking strength and drop amarty.

Adams will play , should be for Lloyd but they won’t drop him so I reckon it’s out of Campbell or Roberts

Mills Adams Parker in
Roberts Jordon and probably Wicks/fox out

He won't drop Lloyd or Campbell and that's why I guessed cunningham but he probably won't drop them

You can't see how Lloyd is dropped when the last 2 games he's been moved to the wing/half forward because Matt Roberts has owned the HB position? McInerney and Gulden, Jordon, are all better wingers then Lloyd, so thats how Lloyd misses out.

So who are you dropping for Parker and Adams? Then assuming you're dropping Adams for Mills (which I just can't see happening as second half the season, finals experience and all)

i think mills coming back is a little further down the track
so we're looking at parker and adams ...
lloyd is the one i'd think is most in the gun, i would not drop campbell
i suspect adams would come in for jordon, but it's a close thing and jordon would be stiff
same with wicks or fox, both doing exactly as asked at the moment
in fact, right now anyone "dropped" for parker or adams would be considered unlucky, but that's the thing with depth
and i think there has to be a bit of a question mark over just how much effect their injuries have on parker and adams, seeing as both are older

I'd be inclined to support this decision but only for wet/humid conditions because that linking/marking forward role that Reid and Amartey provide when they push further up the ground is a real asset when they clunk them.

As a few have mentioned, we finally have the luxury of selection headaches due to our depth rather than injury.

I actually think the coaches are setting Lloyd up to fail with the positional switch they've made over the last fortnight so that he can be dropped but that's just my theory of course.

The Daicos boys are very good players, so it really riles me up when the umps keep giving them soft free kicks (like FFS they don’t need any extra help!) … and Nick especially has to stop looking for frees, that one where he was on the ground in Q3 and he deliberately threw his head towards Florent’s arm to make out he was hit high was sickening, the ump who gave that free should be given a spell!

You'll notice only that while regular kicks must travel 15m+ for a mark to be awarded, Daicos kicks and Daicos marks require nothing of the sort.

However much you wish it, the ball will eventually get down there.
