No, I just didn’t express it well. I meant he is well ahead of where Dusty was at the same point in the season. Had to rush my message before a dinner commitment.Hoyne was, yes. I only mentioned it because I think Elhawko misheard that Jai was already well ahead of Dusty’s previous record as opposed to about to break the record which is well ahead of the rest of the comp.
Loved seeing him scrapping with Maynard ……. he will bring that bit of nastiness that the coach wants and we’ve had in all the great sides over the years!
Has to be in the extended all Australian squad along with bruest and Sicily.
Yeah I'm not expecting him near the squad because of where we sit on the ladder, but there's no chance Oliver makes AA this year as he's missed half the season.Having at look at last year's extended squad there were 44 players named, and approximately 17 were midfielders.
I reckon this year the clear standouts that will certainly get picked for the squad are:
The Bont
Libba
Petracca
Oliver
Dunkley
Rozee
Butters
N. Daicos
Dawson
Serong
Anderson
Gulden
The potential options:
Cerra
Coniglio
Green
Laird
Neale
Treloar
J. Daicos
Parker
Brayshaw (Freo)
LDU
Wood
I reckon both Newcombe and Day would be in amongst that second group, but I expect neither will be picked for various reasons.
Oliver has only played 10 games. I'd argue that Newcombe has been better than all in that potential group. Reckon he deserves to make the squad. Day probably not there yet.Having at look at last year's extended squad there were 44 players named, and approximately 17 were midfielders.

1st for broken tackles.Newcombe should make the squad but he wont.
Top 20 for coaches votes
13th for total clearances
16th for contested possessions
8th for centre clearances
23rd for score involvements
Do we know how many Newcombe currently has? I think Dusty had 85 in 2017.1st for broken tackles.
Have noticed that about Worps in particular in the latter half of the year. Found himself getting caught more often early, but has been far more aware of himself in traffic lately. Goes to show how much of the performance is the midfield group getting to know each other and playing together, I'm sure they all help each other out with that awareness far better than they did pre-bye.Worps, Day, Nash and Newc all seem to “get away” from opponents atm. Nice to watch.
They murdered Collingwood’s midfield. Murdered! Thank god our forwards capitalised too.Have noticed that about Worps in particular in the latter half of the year. Oliver a no from games missed. Laird, Neale, Green, J Daicos and Brayshaw definitely make it.Having at look at last year's extended squad there were 44 players named, and approximately 17 were midfielders.

Feels like it’s the sort of year for them to be brought up among the probables and then have a great year next year and make the squad if not the team.
For as many mids as they pick. It’s also harder to get in as a mid due to how many of the top players are mids.
Duke definitely has a big impact for us. Those sorts of players only seem to get in though when they are in the top teams and not the bottom teams.Laird has been down on his consistency compared to last season. I'm not convinced he makes it, although I love the guy.
Duke is a far more impactful player. I do wonder if that, aside from raw numbers, will count in his favour from an All Australian perspective?
Anyway, it shouldn't matter. The AA team is dead after Sicily's snub last season. Dylan Moore missing out on a squad spot was just as much of a howler.
Sad but true. But i still want our players in itAA is a fan voted media award, the only difference is that the fans doing the voting are mostly ex-players who are meant to be impartial.
The less credence given to it, the better.
My son was thinking of watching the entire season, counting them, then using broken tackles per game to estimate where Martin was knowing that Jai was ahead. And then subtracting all the fend off's from Martin, since they are pretty much all head high contact.Do we know how many Newcombe currently has? I think Dusty had 85 in 2017.
Until the last couple of days I had no idea there was such a record! My son was thinking of watching the entire season, counting them, then using broken tackles per game to estimate where Martin was knowing that Jai was ahead. No, but there is a record for most tackles held. This season's current leader is Touk Miller on 1.Until the last couple of days I had no idea there was such a record!
Is there also a record for most tackles on the most broken tackles record holder? Cos if there isn’t there damn well should…
I’d say it’s the least for that very reasonOut of all the individual awards out there, including the Brownlow, the AA selection is the most prestigious one out there for mine, but the problem is, all that prestige gets a knock in the face when you look at the panel! Doofus-ville.
