West Coast or Adelaide - Who is better placed?

Our defensive depth is way ahead of Adelaide's. Their KPD cupboard after Talia is frighteningly bare.

I think Hartigan has been injured?

But yes it certainly got shown when the two sides played each other and they had to play Otten on Darling, who got monstered.

Hartigan has been injured, but even then is only a 10 game KPD... i reckon he'll make it but jury still is out.

After that it is pretty diabolical.. Thompson is ok at times but nothing special, Shaw has got one of the worst kicks i think i have ever seen in an afl player, and isn't durable, Otten is ok but 2nd ACL might prove career ending...

Yeah, it's nothing to write home about, lucky we have someone as good as Talia.

A graders (or Potential) under 25

West Coast
- Natanui
- Gaff
- Sheed
- Masten
- Darling

Adelaide
- Danger
- Talia
- Walker
- Sloane
- B Crouch

disagree that masten is A grade or even close, also would take sheed out. the kid could be anything, and definitely has potential but too soon to say.

though i'd add...
Yeo
Shuey
McGovern
Lycett

as potential A-graders

After the departures of Bock and Davis, and the retirement of Rutten, you would want to hope that West Coast have better KPD depth than Adelaide.

Right now i'd simply categorize both sides as "flat track bullies". Last year the Eagles and Crows had percentages of %116 and %114 respectively, despite both finishing outside the 8 (seriously those i think are two of the highest percentages ever for teams outside the finals) Also in 2013 the Crows had a percentage past 100 and so did the Eagles before our late season collapse. Says it all really, big wins against strugglers and numerous losses against the better sides.

Geelong in 2006/early 2007 were also labelled "flat track bullies" since they destroyed lower ranked teams by copious margins while getting beaten by the top 8/top 4 teams. A lot of teams that turned out really good used to be what is considered "flat track bullies", so who knows, either side could do some serious damage in 2015, although it's unlikely, IMO both will finish either just inside or outside the top 8 due to serious issues regarding mismanagement and mental toughness.

I take umbrage with the early 2007 statement we destroyed everyone.

How are the eagles a more united squad? Because Dangerfield and and Sloane haven't signed on yet?

Well Eagles managed to secure signatures of few players and seem to be growing under their coach

Crows yes, not securing signatures, turmoil with coaching, and directors and management, controversy and penalties given by AFL, exodus of key position players

That's all I have to say

I thought u said all u had to say 2 posts ago...

This is a great question because these two teams seem very close to each other right now. If everyone is healthy, I feel like the Eagles have the stronger list - at least for the next couple of years. There's a lot of experience in their list and players like Gaff, Darling and Shuey that are just coming into their primes.

That's not to say that I hate the Crows list, and it could be argued that Adelaide might have the better nucleus to build around for the next 5 years (obviously provided they can hang onto Danger and Sloan).

We may've beaten you at Kadinia Pk late in the season but you had players missing and no matter how much we lost by in the GF we were still the second best team of the year, but from rd 6 that year you guys were supreme. Alright you were pushed in the prelim but we went through by 15 goals and it reminds me of last year where we pushed Hawthorn and Sydney did it easy against North and then Hawthorn won easy in the GF.

I'd back West Coast's defence to cover Adelaide's forward line, E-Mac would have a good contest with Tex, but I'd back Schofield and Brown to cover Pods and Jenkins, Bennell would probably be covered by Betts. Hurn and Waters are good flankers, even though Waters is on his last legs.

Midfield wise, Dangerfield and Sloane are better than anything West Coast have. Priddis is a very good midfielder, and Yeo has a heap of potential in the midfield. The problem for West Coast is players like Gaff, Rosa and Hutchings, all of whom are quite poor around the stoppage and don't get enough of the pill outside.

Adelaide's defence is poor. I know people have seen me continually talk about this point but it is. Talia and Kennedy would be evenly matched, but Hartigan would struggle on someone like Lycett or McGovern, then Otten on Darling? He had a promising start but Darling would kill him. LeCras is a very good medium forward and this isn't even a contest.

For me, West Coast's bookend advantage has them better placed.

You certainly missed Shuey in the midfield comparisons.

2nd half of last season looked like he had finally developed that "who gives a shit I'm getting the ball attitude" He was seriously good.

Knew I was forgetting somebody.
