What Will Minson said to Kane Cornes

The reason there is an article in the Advertiser is that Cornes's "autobiography" is being released this week. The open mike interview feeds into this as well. The Advertiser is responsible for what they published, they chose the excerpt selected not Kane and, as such, bear any liability for it.
The Cornes family history has some bite to it given Graham's standing as player, original Crows coach and radio announcer in Adelaide. This led to some entanglements (Tony MacGuiness and Ex SANFL teammates of Graham's) that had major impacts upon Kane and Chad.
The book itself is quite open with Kane not really sugar coating too much.

That's simply not good enough.

Mouthing off about someone's brother being shit at football is not personal, football is the game they're playing and football is what Cornes' related the sledge too.

Speaking about someone's sick child? ******* crosses the line and is incomprehensible. I hope you weren't trying to justify the sledge. It was a shit thing to say.
Giving context isn't justifying the sledge. That said Minson may have been sensitive about his brother and lashed out, terrible thing to say and Wil says he felt sick as soon as it came out of his mouth.
We've all said stupid things in the heat of the moment, the guy did his penance years ago, continuing to crucify him is pretty disgusting too in my opinion.

The issue with the comment is the exaggeration that Minson made. Referring to Cornes' son as 'dying' when he's got a debilitating condition, but not 'dying' would be something that Cornes will never forgot. It's psychologically distressing. Everytime Cornes' son has a complication with his condition, Minson's comments would resurface in his mind.

Tough luck for Minson, he'll have to live with it. I don't feel sorry for him at all.

Don't care about any posts in here or any context. It's just a pig thing to do. Anyone who has kids and know how precious they are or have struggled through a child's illness will know how weak and hurtful what he said was. Hope he's delisted. My opinion on him is now reversed.

If we all acknowledge that you, not Will Minson, are "The hardest bloke in the world™" will you stfu?
Ha ha.
At no point was I referring to myself. I wouldn't last a millisecond. I win every fight by 500meters, its my Nike defense. But see I know that because I know who I am.
My point was saying "minson would eat all youse alive" is ridiculous when you have no idea who you're dealing with. That's all.
So if you "acknowledge you're the hardest bloke in the world" as you say, you'd be doing the same stupid thing that old mate said that I was calling out in the first place. Comprehende?

Just to give this issue some proper context.
At the time of the sledge Cornes was busy mouthing off about Wil's brother Hugh (formerly Port listed) having no heart and being too soft for AFL football.
After the game, Wil sought out Cornes to apologise once after the siren and again the next day. Cornes had not complained and Wil had brought this up off his own bat.

The Danyle Pearce sledge overreaction is still hilarious to this day. Seriously, your mum jokes were basically the only way the mates and I used to communicate through most of highschool.

I don't agree with what he said but I can see how something like that would slip out in the heat of the moment, especially if you're copping it at the time. Like the Selwood one to Des Headland, I'm sure he regretted it once he said it but I can certainly see how you'd react that way.

For those who don't recall, as I remember Selwood said to Headland sarcastically "nice tattoo" and Des said "That's my daughter" and Selwood replied "yeah I ****ed her last night". Like I said, distasteful but I can see how it would happen. You can't fight your opponents anymore so players will say terrible things to rattle their opponents.

Pretty terrible thing to say and being a father myself would have been very angry and upset at the time. Is there really any need for it to come up now; pretty obvious that it is has come up to sell some books and keep Kane relevant.

I wouldn't usually defend Sheahan but read the bloody thread, this is nothing to do with him - other than Cornes talks about the issue on his show as he's releasing a book apparently.

He brings it up on Open Mike - hence it has a bit to do with Mike Sheahan. Unless you're saying Mike asks nothing about the issue Cornes brings it up out of thin air?

shit thing to say, shit act

But is there a point of bringing this up again?

Kane is relaeasing a book, I'm guessing he is doing some PR work to get the book out there and this came up in the interview as he has probably written about it.

The reason it is being brought up is because it was such a shit thing to say when he had a very sick child, of course it will be brought up again.

No one disagrees that it was poor in context, but again why dredge up those things that are hurtful. Not the topic I would highlight in publishing a book if I wanted positive exposure

Probably because he wrote about it in the book as it was relevant to what he went through with his son being sick and him playing, then was asked a question in the interview about it?

And it seems to have worked to get some publicity about his book so far as there's an 8 page thread here about it and a newspaper article.

What? It's a Mike Sheehan commissioned interview. He was asked about it. You think Kane should get help? I'm not a big fan of the guy but WTF?

My Point is why drag this up .......sure it happened

Are we going to raise what Melbourne players ...Viney said to Chris Lewis all those years ago and what Dermot Brereton used to say to aboriginal players every week ........

Are we going to drag up what Leigh Mathews did

What is the point ?

Let's talk about the finals ....let's talk about some positive things for change in the game ......I see no reason why this story is being dug up ....from what 2008?

It has the poet entail to actually re traumatise Kane is anybody .....if you've dealt with something and it's in the past ...you raising it again and bringing it all back actually can re traumatise people ......

It won't be Minson that's affected ......that said it's hardly fair either ......

Yup it was wrong but it appears to me Kane is wanting to bump up sales for his book .........

Of course it would be hell, so what? Even more reason to be by his side. Imagine what his son would be going through, yet his Dad is off playing football instead of being by his side.

How would it all have gone down if his son actually died whilst Cornes was off playing footy?

Minson asked a bloody good question.

this comment is absolutely disgusting. its obvious you havent had to deal with a seriously ill child

You shouldn't completely misrepresent people. Where did I say "he can say whatever he wants on the field" ???

What I said was "a shit act," "a dick on the field," and an "awful thing to say." That's what annoyed me

the problem minson has, charity work or not, is that this wasnt a one off. it wasnt an error in judgement. he has form saying shit things

after cornes, he then had a go at pearce. after that he even had a go at his own team mates, remind me again why kobe had to step in for a younger team mate?

he may do some good charity work but the reality is he shows pretty ordinary character with some of the stuff he has said to people

Kane was asked about it on Sheehans show. What do you want Kane to do? Lie about it?

"It happened a long time ...let's move on"

If he had not moved on then I ask why Kane hadn't sought a truce with Minson .........

I'm not for one second condoning what Minson said ......it was vile and terrible ....but it happened 7 -8 years ago ......

Sorry that's poor ....oh let's bump up the sales of the book seems to be the motive
