Anyone heard of this Henry Smith kid at Bris? Apparently he's a handy future ruckman we should look at bringing over.

Had a restricted preseason due to shoulder surgery hence why he wasn't up for selection in round 1 apparently.

Was in their bests in the VFL trial game against the Suns last week.

I felt this was part of a mixed strategy

Getting Thilly in the middle ( RoB on the pine) allowed Curtin to sit in the middle of Tex and Fogarty in the forward area

I thought it was interesting and wonder how long this will happen given RoBs supposed endurance - or again it could be a long term keep RoB fresh while working RT into the game

I just think he might be a hard get given the time the Lions have out into him and the age demographic of their rucks McInerny and Fort and key forwards minus Joe Daniher...he has to be in their future plans to be putting this time into him which has seen him go from a 70kg 202cm beanpole to a 98kg monster and still growing.

His Uncle is doing some work at their club apparently, and he is a Powa supporter.
I can't see him going anywhere else if he comes home. Similar to Rankine only coming to us regardless of any other offers.

Might be time to start focusing on and putting some serious feelers out for Brisbane's SA/WWT Forward/Ruck Henry Smith (contracted 2026) given even though Joe Daniher is gone and Chris Fagan seems to still prefer the fast approaching 32 yo Darcy Fort? All the hard work development already done?

As mentioned here and on our board Smith's first apperance this pre-season was in the last quarter in the practice match against your boys. I expect him to take the spot of Sam Day/Fort at some point this year.

I watched him closely for North in their practice match against Melbourne a couple weeks ago, and he got given a bath by their mature age key forward pickup Aidan Johnson in the ruck for a quarter or 2, who stands at 193cm.

Of course that can't be read into too much I guess, given we're talking about a 19yo skinny ruck with years of development still to come, up against a mature aged brute. Given he was rated so highly you'd imagine it will come together for him with time.

I was happy with his usage, but dont want it to increase.

He had 11 ruck contests on the weekend, with 3 of them being at the centre bounce. This is perfect.

2 Contested Marks I50, 3 goals, 2 goal assists is what where his real value is. Let O'Brien plod along and have his body take the beating in the middle.

TT is a bit of a unicorn and will be almost unstoppable 1 on 1. Anyone big enough to match him in size and wingspan is going to get absolutely monstered by him once the ball hits the deck (as evidenced by having 5 inside 50 GBG).

Johnson has a leap on him.
Ruck is a position that takes a while to get ready for at AFL level.
He needs to bulk up, but they all do. The ones that get an early start are the ones that have alot of mobility like Grundy and Jackson.

Whoever's decision it was to extend him that much early on was a genius, same with Thilthorpe.

Both those players could get a million a season next year some where else, it in the long run will same the club enough money that we'll be able to afford an extra star player.

You would think significant milestones would be built in to a long term early deal like that - top 3 B&F last year etc would earn a decent kick
